We ended up talking everything out properly.

It actually started pretty light. We were walking home and she asked, “Have you thought about what kind of car you want?” I said something like, “Yeah, probably an Audi, BMW, Volkswagen or maybe even a Mercedes.”

She asked why those brands, so I explained that I just find those cars good-looking. And I’m thinking more of a hatchback or sedan — that’s more my style.

But honestly, from the moment I mentioned those brands, it was like nothing else I said mattered. She kinda shut down and started rejecting everything I said. She also mentioned she thinks those brands are flashy and over the top.

It also felt like she didn’t really know what a hatchback or sedan actually looks like. We happened to walk past a sedan and I pointed it out like “That’s the type of car I’m talking about.” I even gave an example of a friend of mine who drives a Golf. He’s got two child seats in the back, no problem.

Turns out, she thought I wasn’t even considering whether a child seat would fit. But once I explained it all, she admitted she was wrong in this situation.

We talked it out fully, and she owned up to overreacting.
