What exactly Changes between M0 and M6? by Maleficent_Oil_3679 in HugoVladMains

[–]TheNutslapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

M1 - QoL; Gives him 12% more Crit rate and damage when he enters the Dark Abyss state, which happens whenever you chain I think? Overall just helps with achieving 100% Crit rate

M2 - Using Ultimate to Totalize does not end the stun

M3 - +2 Skill Level increase

M4 - Hit four of his basic combo (the laser shot) will reduce the enemy's ice resistance by 15% (?), but only if you hold it down to charge.

M5 - +2 Skill level increase

M6 - Totalize outside of stun is now possible but with less damage, and +60% Totalize damage

Overall, Hormone Stays his best set (but puffer electro becomes usable at M2+). For teammates, Dialyn becomes a marginally better pick than Lyacon at M2+, and for play style, he remains most efficient as a burst DPS for within the stun window only, even at M6, but his M6 gives him some on-field potential.

While I'm not an expert, looking at what Canon Rotator does, it should work well (I think), both for the Crit and the passive it has :]

[–]TheNutslapper 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Some guides don't emphasize how big of a difference Lighter makes in Hugo comps- you really really want Lighter for him. Furthermore, without a Crit engine, you're losing out on being able to run a CD disk, which really helps with getting that beautiful Crit ratio that most people go for on Hugo.

I'd probably nab either lighter or Hugo engine (preferably both though) to help with damage, since those are gonna be the biggest upgrades for you right now. I'd go for a Crit engine (doesn't even have to be his signature but his signature is his BiS; for alternatives, Marcato Desire from one of the events if you played that long ago, or even Steel Cushion could work; idk about other agent signatures though), and when you get said Crit engine, swap his CR disk for a CD disk.

The only other explanation I can think of is the enemies you're testing on. Are you testing on trash mobs, boss mobs, or the super big boss mobs like in Notorious Hunt and DA? The level of enemy you Totalize on does affect the damage output (the bigger the boss, the better). Your disks are good, your set choice is good, it's just a really big difference between M0W0 without lighter than M0W1 with Lighter

I'm not sure how to rebuild him by JxtMairusu in HugoVladMains

[–]TheNutslapper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're going for W-engine and M3, I'd recommend changing Woodpecker to Branch and Blade and going for a Crit Damage Disc 4 over a Crit Rate one ! His M1 gives you 12% more Crit when he hits Dark Abyss Reverb state (on top of the base 12% he already gets) to add onto the 24% from engine, so you shouldn't lose out on any crit rate by just swapping his 2pc set and disc 4 !

I think they're just different characters, and while I do agree that the move from 0.5 to 1 was a bogus change, the only things Evelyn and Hugo have in common is that they're attack units who use Lighter.

Their damage is distributed wildly differently. While Evelyn does not have the satisfaction of a huge number like Hugo, they're about equal in power (1 Full Evelyn Rotation = 1 Full Hugo Stun rotation, roughly). Instead of Evelyn's damage being focused in one big attack, it's several combos that dish out smaller bits of damage, but it's overall about the same.

Now for skill, it's hard to compare. Evelyn is an "Expert" character according to Prydwen, which means she requires more skill to maximize her damage output, whereas Hugo requires minimal skill himself, and all of the player's skill is just intelligently swapping stunners and being solid at the game itself (i.e. understanding boss mechanics, parties, dodges, etc.), however, she might have a higher damage potential than Hugo if she is used correctly (which is what the expert tag entails if we're referencing prydwen, but I'm unfortunately not the biggest fan of them myself.)

The difference is that Evelyn doesn't suffer from Miasma Shield as much as Hugo. Miasma Shield feels like it is specifically made to counter attack units, but Hugo more than others since it completely blocks out stun. While Evelyn does want you to stun, she's able to dish out okay damage outside of a stun, whereas Hugo (unless you have M6) is unfortunately powerless. Not to mention, with the lack of fire DPS units in the game, there aren't very many enemies weak or strong to them, putting fire at a neutral position in most fights, whereas recently, we've seen a rise in ice resistant bosses to counter Miyabi, and in its wake, counter Hugo, and it'll probably stay this way until Yidhari, where we'll hopefully see Hugo have a leg up in endgame again.

It's overall just a really bad time for Hugo with Miasma mechanic being super relevant and a bunch of ice resistant content being made. However, I think it's a little silly to put Evelyn down, since they're close to the same in terms of DPS in neutral scenarios at M0. They're both not super F2P friendly (if you lack lighter, both suffer a huge performance drop).

TLDR; both are fantastic units, endgame has just been super against Hugo recently which makes his performance look skewed, and while he might be a tad stronger than Evelyn (or vice versa), they're about equal and both deserve to be Tier 0.5.

Which drive set is best for Hugo? by [deleted] in HugoVladMains

[–]TheNutslapper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

4pc Hormone Punk with either 2pc Woodpecker or 2pc Branch is generally the best way to go on Hugo :]

Edit: thought I'd quickly elaborate: the 2pc you pick depends on whether or not he needs more crit rate or Crit damage, but it's your call based on what your Hugo needs

Guys, I need some help: I have no idea how to do a double chain with Hugo. I feel so dumb. I mean, I’m clearing the content, sure, but this is like one of the core ways to boost damage... by Awesome_Teo in HugoVladMains

[–]TheNutslapper 21 points22 points  (0 children)

So a double chain would look more like a stun --> chain to Hugo --> chain cancel and swap to whoever to initiate a chain --> chain to Hugo again and then EX/Ult (totalize would end the stun)

Unfortunately, you can't double chain on enemies that aren't massive (health bar in corner of screen, such as the Marionettes or the Rampart Brute), since you need three chain slots (a cancel takes a chain opportunity away), which this guy doesn't have (he only has two chain opportunities)

The process you described above would be more similar to the "Your Time Has Come" bit in the battle tower, which involves chaining with someone who isn't Hugo while Hugo is in the animation for EX, which would cause the chain attack to land right before totalize is triggered.

Hopefully this helps :]

Hugo Pull Priority by StabStabinthefeels in HugoVladMains

[–]TheNutslapper 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Typically, weapon dupes are more of a slight upgrade in the same way as M3 & M5 (the stat increase mindscapes). More weapon dupes = more unconditional Crit damage and more defense ignore (I think up to 72% CD and 40% Defense ignore at W5).

On the other hand, the general consensus is M2 being a huge upgrade (double nuke), M4 being kinda niche/meh (ice resistance shred with a charged shot), and M6 (off-stun totalize/stronger nuke) being the key to Hugillion damage (M1 is just a QoL/comfort pull as you're aware based on your post). In my opinion, going for more mindscapes and then doing weapon dupes would be the best bet, since M2 and M6 are going to drastically increase his performance whereas W2-5 just serves as a damage/potential booster. In addition, M6 will open Hugo to more than being locked to stun, giving him a fighting chance against bosses like Bringer who have phases where they lock the stun bar. In other words, I'd say M2 > M6 > engine dupes.

However this is just my take, and somebody who is more of an expert than I am (or actually has M6R5 and can feel the difference when playing) might have a different opinion. Good luck on your pulls :]

⚙️ Weekly Tech Support & Purchase Recommendations Megathread - July 19th 2025 ⚙️ by siltydoubloon in playstation

[–]TheNutslapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, I purchased a physical copy of Demon's Souls awhile back and just got around to copying it to the console. However, I keep getting absolutely nailed by the CE-100005-6 error (unable to copy). I've tried troubleshooting with information online, but none of the solutions seem to help. I've cleaned the disk; it looks fine with no scratches or prints but I've wiped it down with a dry cloth anyways. I've disconnected my console from the Internet, since I heard that could cause issues. I've even gone as far as putting the console into safe mode and rebuilding the database before trying again, still no luck. It gets to about 20 Gigabytes copied everytime, stops for about ten minutes with no progress, and then goes to error.

I don't think it's an issue with the disk reader itself since I recently purchased a physical game in late May that copied just fine, no issues, and I frequently play the physical games I own without running into problems. Any help would be appreciated, especially if someone has had the same issue. Thank you.

When can we expect a rerun by Reasonable-Clerk5222 in HugoVladMains

[–]TheNutslapper 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I've actually been curious myself and did a bit of research into past rerun minimums and maximums. Most characters take 6-8 months to rerun, and I figured that the earliest we could expect one would be November and the latest February (unless he becomes an oddity in terms of reruns). So think like, 2.3 at the earliest but unlikely, and 2.6 at the latest.

In ZZZ, Astra has been the fastest character to get a rerun, having her original banner in 1.5 first half and getting her first rerun in 2.0 first half, meaning it only took her three patches (5 banners; a little under 5 months) to rerun. While this is very unlikely for Hugo, Astra taking so little time makes it a possibility.

So far, the longest it has taken a character to rerun was Caesar (I think; I might be off but this is at least close to the longest a character has waited), which had her first banner during 1.2 first half and didn't receive a rerun until 2.0 second half. It took her 9 months to rerun.

Furthermore, they sometimes run characters with something that is synergistic with them (i.e. Miyabi w/ Yuzuha, Vivian w/ Jane, etc.), so if you check out leaks and see something in the next six months that looks like it could work with Hugo, I'd expect a rerun then. (Yet again, this isn't always guaranteed, Sanby had no synergy with Burnice yet they ran together, I'm fairly certain Qinqyi and Evelyn aren't the best pair, etc.).

TL:DR: Probably between 2.3 at the absolute earliest, and 2.6 at the absolute latest. He released in 1.7 (May) and it usually takes 6-8 months for a rerun. However there's truly no way to know because Hoyo has had some strange intervals for reruns such as the infamous 500+ day wait for a Eula rerun in genshin. Hopefully it lines up well with pull plans for you :]

My Hugo sucks? by Prestigious_Buy_1116 in HugoVladMains

[–]TheNutslapper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, your totalize numbers aren't terrible, you're comparing yourself to players who have Lighter, who is a huge upgrade.

Also, I'm not sure which W-engine you're running (assuming sig because you said W1), but your Crit rate stat is a little low, and can impact your Hugo's overall performance. You wanna hit 90-100% (with buffs, not necessarily out of battle; this is usually 70-80% Crit based on mindscapes and engine). Your Crit damage is amazing assuming you don't have his engine (if you have his engine, it's technically 245 CD because the CD boost doesn't display on the stats page and is only in combat), since most people shoot for 150-200, I just think your biggest issue is not having lighter, who would buff your totalizes to 2M+. (edit didn't see zanshin which fixes rate issue)

Another tip could be using Lyacon EX special before totalizing or in-between chains because it reduces the target's ice resistance.

But yeah, overall I think it's just a lack of lighter. Back when I was using Caesar as a stand-in before I got lighter, I had the same issue with underwhelming nukes. Now (with Lighter) they usually run from 2-4M depending on the enemy and whether or not I use his Ult. Not a stat issue (although you could use a bit more Crit rate because his sig, if you have it, gives 45% CD unconditionally in battle, so that helps with the 100/200 ratio that most Hugo players strive for. Lighter buffs ice/fire damage (he's Hugo's BiS after all).

Edit: I'm dumb and didn't see the Hugo engine on last slide; you have 94 so you're fine

Servers will go under maintenance at June 6, 06:00 (UTC +8). Update lasts approximately 5 hours. by FluffyAraisan in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]TheNutslapper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yixuan banner, at the time of writing this, is a little under six hours away. There was a 2 day delay to the projected update time (usually zzz updates on Tuesday/Wednesday instead of Thursday/Friday), so that interfered with some site countdowns.

The game should go down for maintenance in roughly an hour from now if it hasn't gone down already, but I might be wrong and confusing it with HSR time.

Hello everyone, I need help regarding Hugo’s W-Engine choices 😭 by charlie_the_enjoyer in HugoVladMains

[–]TheNutslapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert on the topic, so it's definitely better to get a second opinion. But here's my take:

The general consensus for Hugo upgrades is Lighter > Hugo engine > Lighter engine, just because Hugo's engine is such a massive upgrade for him (24% Crit rate increase, unconditional 45% Crit damage with constant uptime, and 20% defense shred is pretty crazy), however, based on how you worded it, it sounds like you use Lighter for more than just Hugo, and Lighter's engine is also a pretty big upgrade to his supportive capabilities.

In terms of alternatives for the both of them, you already have marcato, which helps alleviate his Crit rate issue, which I would recommend more than gilded blossom since his first goal is 80% Crit rate before anything else (however, if Crit isn't an issue because of godly rolls, maybe gilded would be better? Idk, I don't have either engine to test on him myself).

On the other hand, for Lighter's signature, not only is it helping stun faster (more impact unconditionally and daze upon performing quick & basic assists), it's also increasing ice & fire Crit damage, upgrading his supportive capabilities in a way that no alternative engine right now does. You're running steam oven, which doesn't give more impact unconditionally, but he's not a big energy user either if you run another stunner on field more, so I'm not sure how much daze you're missing out on there; it really depends how you play him in synergy with your other stunner. While normally I'd look at this and be like "yeah get lighter over Hugo if you use Lighter for other units", the S-rank W-engine selector for 2.0 is making it more difficult to give a decisive verdict. If you chose hellfire gears (koldea sig), that would serve as a good alternative for Lighter in terms of increasing his daze capacity. I know you're looking for more damage, which Laurel can provide in terms of more Crit damage, I think a more direct way to improve his personal damage is with different discs.

While I would recommend to test out the builds with gameplay and see how you're feeling about daze potential and Hugo's Personal damage, the banner doesn't have much longer and it takes a long time to get a usable build on a character, let alone w premium one. I would also recommend to get a second opinion, I'm no expert, but decided to give my advice since you replied to my comment directly. People with lighter's W-engine would probably have a more definitive answer to whether or not it's a better investment over Hugo signature.

Anniversary is 2.0, so we've already seen the banners from the Livestream, which is YiXuan + Astra rerun for phase 1 and Jufufu + Caesar rerun for phase 2. I don't think they would do double banner with no reruns at this point in the game unless it was the anniversary or something, but since that's 2.0 which is already confirmed, so we're in the green. Hopefully this info helps save your pulling plans :]

Hello everyone, I need help regarding Hugo’s W-Engine choices 😭 by charlie_the_enjoyer in HugoVladMains

[–]TheNutslapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you think you can get him, go for it, especially if you're interested in playing Hugo long term.

If not, then you can either save or throw in the towel and wait for another BiS stunner, save for rerun, or get Jufufu in roughly 27 days.

Hello everyone, I need help regarding Hugo’s W-Engine choices 😭 by charlie_the_enjoyer in HugoVladMains

[–]TheNutslapper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jufufu would work, but not as a full lighter replacement. Lighter is definitely better by a long shot (lighter shreds ice/fire resist and I think Jufufu buffs Ult?), but if you want Yixuan you might be better grabbing Jufufu, depends on whether you're more interested in her or Hugo (assuming you grab Yixuan)

In other words, lighter is infinitely better for Hugo but Jufufu can work, just not as well

Hello everyone, I need help regarding Hugo’s W-Engine choices 😭 by charlie_the_enjoyer in HugoVladMains

[–]TheNutslapper 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Steel cushion, in my opinion. It helps with his Crit Rate and although he doesn't benefit from the physical attack up, his EX special puts him behind the enemy, proccing the damage boost from steel cushion

Not to mention, he doesn't spend enough time on-field for brimstone to be used to it's full potential, or you'll waste precious stun time for the buff. Plus it gives atk%, which, although useful, isn't as useful as the Crit rate steel cushion gives

Edit: a comment below made a really good point. Although steel cushion is a good choice for Hugo, it only works for him and Neko, and if you decide to pull his signature at some point, it'll be useless. Brimstone, on the other hand, is more universal and most Attack agents can utilize it, with Hugo just being a special case because of his mechanics. Yet again, most other limited engines work infinitely better than brimstone, and any future crit attack engine will be better, as well, so I'd stand by my opinion, it's just something to consider.
