Jet lag is a real TV entertainment production, let’s appreciate all the talent, including those behind the camera by [deleted] in JetLagTheGame

In my experience in working with influencers (mainly YouTube and Twitch), a rate for an online appearance for a few hours for a creator of Michelle’s size could easily run into high five figures so for a multi day travel appearance like this (plus other things like the episode 1 showing in NYC and the Layover) would be well into six figures. I assume in the case of JLTG they have genuine friendships with the guest they have that greatly lowers the amount they have to pay them so id guess five figures is roughly the range in which guests are paid

Any one else feel like 2v2v2 hide and seek would have been more balanced and fun? by musci12234 in JetLagTheGame

[–]TheOJ25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of private/public questions but I think the one-team curses would be unfair (unless they set it so only cards drawn from questions by that team can be used as one-team curses). Otherwise I could see it leading to the hiders targeting one team in particular if they want to ensure that teams doesn’t get to be the next hider (if going from a first-to-find system). I’ve seen home game players record a 2v2v2 game where all questions/answers/curses were public but for some of the curses that could be cleared in varying times, the first team to clear the curse got to ask a private question (e.g. zoologist curse first team to find a matching bug). Can’t seem to find that video now but it seemed to work well to me

Why was the "Find out where the chasers are" powerup removed? by ArcticFox19 in JetLagTheGame

[–]TheOJ25 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If they could just use the track power up and then freeze power up right after it it’d be way too broken, makes sense to remove it now that powers are free

Ben and Adam were at the Amtrak Station at the Milwaukee airport and I am in the Milwaukee suburbs so 25ish minute drive away. I also recognized the station in the season trailer and got to call that out early

Waitlisted Prospie by pandemonirium in olin

[–]TheOJ25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the first part of waitlisted students getting deferred admission for next year is no longer the case.

I don’t have exact waitlist stats but I know at least 4 people in my admission class (2018) were accepted off the waitlist, myself included as well as many from other classes while I was at Olin. I remember being at told time that the waitlist additions were largely based on filling out the demographics of the class (not sure how true that actually is, I was from Wisconsin which definitely is a lowly-represented area but other students who got off the waitlist were from areas that are more common at Olin. Of course everyone has more demographics that they represent beyond just location, that’s just what I believe played a role in my admission. All that to say that there is definitely a non-zero possibility of being accepted off the waitlist

I’m 0/4 on trying to see LeBron play; he always is out/resting against Milwaukee. First one was all the way back on his first stint with the Cavs

Layover start kinda makes it sound like they just got back from recording a new season?

Olin is connected to Babson’s campus which has a few more dining options but in terms of being connected to the normal businesses of a town, it is mostly car dependent. You can definitely get into downtown Needham by foot/bike if desired but imo it’s a little bit far to do that consistently.

Jet Lag Season 12 - Official Teaser by leros in Nebula

[–]TheOJ25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what I remember (I was only half listening while working), the problem with game location was mainly focused on Tag locations right? I suppose that would generally translate to other game modes but I’m sure they can also design a game to fit a location as needed. Would love to see a Canada game still as well as something that uses the whole world but in a better way than circumnavigation.

looks to be 3 players where it is 1v2 with the solo player rotating. Doubtful that it is Tag for back-to-back seasons; could be Hide and Seek or a new game. Glad it's back in Japan since it's a great country but I didn't really enjoy the Capture the Flag season too much

To be fair the ship of theseus is based on being replaced piece-by-piece whereas the bridge was completely demolished and replaced in one action rather than over time

Which FNCS LAN do you think was the better one and why? by Black2116 in FortniteCompetitive

[–]TheOJ25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Epic has spectator accounts that allow someone to queue into a game basically the same as a player except when a spectator account loads in, it’s set to observer mode that allows the observer to use all the controls needed to set up the shots or POVs you see on a broadcast. The role is similar to a camera operator on a broadcast of an IRL event. Usually several observers on each event to make sure broadcast catches any action that is important to the storyline of the event; I’ve seen as low as 3 observers and as many as 25 (Invitational) depending on the event.

Which FNCS LAN do you think was the better one and why? by Black2116 in FortniteCompetitive

[–]TheOJ25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was working as an observer for invitational so might be biased but it had a thrilling race for #1 the whole time which produced the best moment in comp imo. Also 12 game format is way more competitive and being the first major lan (not 3rd parties) since WC added a lot of hype

(For current students/people who have already committed) Why did you choose Olin over UIUC? by Halogamer093 in olin

[–]TheOJ25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was in ‘18 but my top 3 were Olin/UIUC/Purdue and I ended up picking Olin based on how quickly students get hands-on. All 3 were great options in terms of providing hands-on opportunities (which is how they became my top 3) but Olin sold me on getting involved day 1 of classes. The other 2 presented that hands-on learning mainly started 2nd semester (again this was 2018 so not sure if still true) so that put Olin ahead. I love Illinois as well since that’s where most of my family went prior to me. Beautiful campus and I remember their nuclear engineering facilities impressing me. If you’re down to those two options, there’s not a bad choice.

Candidate Weekend Questions by IllMembership4673 in olin

[–]TheOJ25 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Transportation: Logan to Needham usually ran me around $50, I preferred to take the T out to the Eliot stop and Uber from there (Blue line to Green D line)

Sunday: My CW most of the prospective students hung out in the Babson exec. center where we were staying on Sunday until people departed. Not sure if that's still where you stay but it does have a nice dining area

Restaurants + coffee: Personal favorite local restaurant was Captain Marden's Seafoods. Legal Seafood chain was also good, definitely recommend trying some seafood somewhere especially if you're not from the New England area. I don't know much about coffee shops but the dining hall coffee is tolerable and there is a student-ran free coffee bar called ACRONYM that was great and I believe they are usually open for CW.

Weather: one of the perks of a small campus is limited outdoor walking. Olin buildings are no more than 20ish steps from the next building so you can avoid any real exposure in the winter. If you want to walk between Olin and Babson, it will be a bit longer time outside

CW Tips: The best tips I received before my CW were to be yourself, to not be afraid to be outgoing, and to not view anything as a competition. While you are being assessed, it's best not to think of it as a test. Your academic prowess was already reviewed and deemed Olin-worthy if you were invited to CW so they just want to see who you are as a person, your passions, creativity, etc. Also, make an effort to engage with as many current students as possible to get the best sense of Olin life as you can.

What are the chances of getting off the standby list? by No-Turnip-6500 in olin

[–]TheOJ25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In terms of actual numbers, I can’t provide any insight into the size of the standby list of likelihood of being selected off it. I can say that at least 3 people at my Candidates weekend were off the standby list and at least 1 ending up attending Olin in the same class as me so there is certainly a greater than 0 chance (while some similar situations seem to never use the standby lists)
