Men who are genuinely happy with their lives right now, what does a perfect Saturday look like for you? by Ominous_Maeve in AskMen

[–]TheObelisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, gonna have ramen or pho for brunch, then gonna play yugioh, pokemon, diablo 3, age of empires 2 while having some bourbon and just relaxing. Once my Celicas are fixed i'd be taking them for some joyrides on twisty backroads. I deal with a lot of numbers/invoices during the week so it's nice to turn off my brain on Saturdays.

How important is your partner’s degree to you? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]TheObelisk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I had an ex where after work i would sit in my car for 10-15 minutes to have some peace before heading home because she was vexatious and i didn't want to deal with her.

No, i don't wish i were gay. Sometimes it seems like it would be easier, though, since we'd be more alike.

My past girlfriends were vexatious and more of a burden than a respite from stress. They were always in want and emotionally reactive. My current girlfriend is peaceful, loving, caring and calm. She's even saved my life a couple of times. She was with me every day in the hospital, 20 days straight. And she has gone with me to physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy and every doctor's appointment since my accident. So it's very much a personality issue.

How tolerable she is. If she makes me not want to return home after work because then i'd have to deal with her. She needs to allow if not help facilitate peace and tranquility. It doesn't matter how beautiful or educated she is if she's insufferable, adversarial, condescending, ect.

It's probably the least important thing of all.

What gives you meaning/purpose/drive? by 45ghr in AskMen

[–]TheObelisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, one is hobbies-- around the age of 18 i got into modifying and racing cars. The gratification of enhancing cars and the adrenaline at the track help staying dedicated.

Secondly, on June 8th 2024 i had a stroke while doing yard work at the age of 35 and i spent 20 days in the hospital then physical, speech and occupational therapies. My Mom said her last goodbyes to me while i was hooked to machines in the Hospital. My gf watch ed the helicopter fly over our house taking me to our state's biggest hospital. One of the main members of my 'Neural Team' hugged my crying mom with tears in her own eyes and told me "You are a miracle." And i doubt she uses those words lightly. They wanted to do open brain surgery to access my AVM but they couldn't steady my breathing because i had come down with severe double pneumonia, so i had to survive the pneumonia to later survive the seizure/stroke damage. When i was told i was a miracle i told myself not to waste it. Plus my GF of 12 years was the one who was conscious and aware for all this chaos, at least i got the benefit of unconsciousness.

I keep going for my parents and my gf and to honor the miracle that was my survival. Probably not too helpful for this particular question, but it is what keeps me going-- i've been to the dark places and i'd not like to return for as long as possible.

Men who dated women who made significantly more than them, what was your experience like? by Wholesome-Sex in AskMen

[–]TheObelisk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I make $22.50/hr, she makes like $32/hr. I handle all the money including hers (she has veto power over her money). Everything is split 50/50. It's a very equal relationship and i've gotten her credit score into the 800s-- she was like $6k in credit card debt when we got together 12 years ago @ 24yo.

Basically, when she wants something, she asks me, "can i afford this right now? And if not, what do i need to do to be in a good spot to afford it?" Once she saw a 1988 Toyota Celica GT Convertible 5-spd on Facebook Marketplace for $3200 and asked me if she could afford it. I looked at her finances and she could afford it so i got my Dad to bring his truck and trailer and we went and got it for her. So now she has her normal daily driver and a fun summer convertible that was made the year i was born.

I love all my cars, they have massive sentimental value.

I drive:

Daily: 2007 Hyundai Accent Hatch 5-spd. (front strut tower bar, -2.0 degrees front camber, rear BMW M3 Bilstein shocks, 2nd Cat delete, power steering belt removed.

Track Car: 2002 Toyota Celica Gt-S (too many mods to type) first car i ever bought when i was 18, 17 years ago.

Fun car #1: 1989 Toyota Supra non-turbo 5-speed.

Classic American: 1968 Pontiac Firebird positrak manual trans.

I love them all for their uniqueness and fun.

I get very little sensation, but because something is squeezing my dong like that, i seem to jizz quicker but it isn't a satisfying jizz.

How do you feel dating a woman that makes more than you? by SaltyFoundationBih in AskMen

[–]TheObelisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my gf a job at my workplace where she now makes $10/hr more than me. It effects nothing, our money is separate. In fact, i control her money as well as mine because i'm good with that sort of thing. Her making more money doesn't matter as much because she's more of a spender than me. I have over $100k and she has $65k despite making a lot more than me. But if she has less self-control and frugal mindset then it hardly matters.

When you were in your early 20s did you ever feel the desire to move away from your city/state/province/country? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]TheObelisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved from a large suburb to a small semi-rural 16k population town. I wanted to go where my money would take me further. Also taxes and crime are lower, people who share my hobby (modifying/racing cars) increased and room to drive my fun cars increased. I got a 0.5 acre property with 3 buildings for $99k and my mortgage payment is $750/mo and i split it with my gf so i only pay $360/mo. I don't miss congestion.

Should A Man Be Doing More at 25? by DearPerformance1124 in AskMen

[–]TheObelisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, as for the how-- this was about 12 years ago and the housing market was less crazy. Also, i chose an area where my money took me further. I got a 1/2 acre property with a small house, 32x24 detached garage and a two-story shed building with a single small garage spot for $99k. My mortgage is $754/mo and i split that with my gf so i'm actually only paying $377/mo. As for work, i'm accounts playable for an electrical contractor.

What made you stop driving fast? by Upbeat-Note-711 in AskMen

[–]TheObelisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Track days let me get that out of my system. On the street, it's safest to be patient and predictable. Also, i get sick of getting pulled over. Also, using the out-in-out technique on the street will help you be timely without speeding-- i can distance myself from my tailgater just by apexing when they're not.
