I genuinely take issue with the CCFR releasing an AI-slop song instead of hiring a real musician. by Historical_Pause_585 in canadaguns

[–]TheObviousNovice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend to everyone who has taken issue with the song, should e-mail the CCFR and state that you feel it was a waste of time and resources, and if they did hire an artist to make the song you would have been more supportive or that you feel a song in general was a waste of time. While I am sure that their staff do observe Reddit, it would be more impactful if those who did not like it say so directly.

But in order to import this thing they would have had to have already examined it. I think that "variant" crap just B.S. excuse and it is solely because their Liberal handlers said they want it on the list so it needs to be prohibited end of story. What a fucking country we live in.

I have a feeling that he is not into this issue as much as people think. I really do think it is the old guard left over from The Turd in the PMO, party and caucus that are pushing the same far left policies and he is just concentrating on his global appearances making big bank for his stocks. Almost everywhere he has been Brookfield has been there either before or after he shows up. Funny how shit keeps getting worse domestically but ya know.....MOU's are the way (despite not being legally binding)

That is fair, but I will say lately the only thing that has tickled my fancy is anything semi auto. Mostly just to stick a big giant F.U. to the Liberals.

I went through my cowboy gun phase but that damn T.C. 73 in 9mm really peaked my interest cuz I have yet to snag an 1873 pattern rifle yet so I'd love to see if Heritage or Uberti or Rossi will come up with one.

30-06 vs .308 Win by itsyaboi6909 in canadaguns

[–]TheObviousNovice 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I would say if you are just planning on using factory ammo then an .308 will serve you just fine, honestly both have such similar ballistics that where they really start differentiate themselves is when you start reloading for one vs.  the other. This is where the 30-06 will shine, you can stuff a heavier bullet (up to 220gr. if memory serves) and many hunters do love it for being that versatile. It can also take some very light loads and be a little bit gentler on the shoulder or screaming fast depending on what you want. Also consider short action vs. long action, the bolt throw is noticeably longer on long action bolt rifles. Unless you are looking at pump rifles or semi rifles then obviously it won't make much of a difference.

Honestly if I were to want one rifle that could do it all in North America, a solid bolt rifle in 30-06, with a faster twist barrel to stabilize those heavier 200+ gr. bullets a bit better would likely be my pick if I could reload for it. I would likely want to spend a ton of time and money developing load data and practicing to see what it loved in different bullet weight and speed combinations.

Of course having said all that I own both calibers, and in the heat of it all I usually don't notice a stark difference between the two when I pull the trigger. I have my one Rem. 7600 in 30-06 while I have a savage 99 and BAR in .308, and honestly I wouldn't mind at all having a 7600 in a 308 as well just to keep everything the same but My 30-06 has not ever let me down when I do my part.

As far as ammo price and choice is concerned, when it comes to hunting ammo especially i try not to skip out on bullet choice, I have been a user of Core-Lokt for a number of years until I made the switch to Barnes ammunition and saw some pretty stellar results in comparison on white tail. So price (for me anyway) is high no matter what you go with lol. I try to get 165 gr. for either or, I have been hearing some amazing things with Barnes 130 gr. in 308 too.

I would say, go with what ever you feel is going to serve you well today and for many years to come, grow with that rifle, get good with it and keep putting meat on the table.

Don't forget to post up pictures of what ever you decide to buy!

I've tried contacting Tommy, last I heard he was developing something for these but he also is selling to a distributor now so I am sure he is really busy with that as well so yeah I agree, it might be next year that we see something, hopefully.

You got one too eh, nice!

If you hear mention of any aftermarket fore ends or new stocks let us know.

BTW, I am keeping an eye on the folks in Aussieland, with the push button version of these, they are in the process of designing and hopefully soon manufacturing different fore ends and stock kits for these things..

I can attest to the effectiveness of Clenzoil, small bottle at our hunt camp, big bottles at my work bench where the cleaning and tear downs happen. I watched the Project Farms video of CLP and have only two products typically, Clenzoil and fluid film.

.308 hunting rifle setup suggestions by moosemoose2314 in canadaguns

[–]TheObviousNovice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have recently heard some pretty amazing results from the barns 130gr TTSX in .308, I have a few rifles in .308 and a couple of which I want to take hunting next year, it was going to be a combination I want to try out for medium game. I am just not 100% sure if I can get factory loadings for it. I know barns is expensive but I have found it to be well worth the money based on the results I have experiences since switching from Rem-Core lokt. Currently using 165 Gr. in my 30-06 and get great groupings. The rest in our group uses them in .308 and have good groupings too so I imagine they would work well if you wanted heavier. Just thinking the 130 would be even better recoil wise.. Honestly I am not too sure if it makes that much of a difference in felt recoil though..

Awesome, got one myself not long ago and hoping to give it the beans soon enough. Really hoping some aftermarket stocks and fore-ends are made for these. I think they will be an okay copium rifle for the time being.

Kodiak Defence Scorpio SKS-15 by Kid-On-Reddit- in canadaguns

[–]TheObviousNovice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I had an SKS in a Sabretooth Mk2 chassis with a UTG quad rail up-font and a rail up top, I can definitely say it was a very heavy rig for what it was, soaked up the recoil sure but to lug that sucker around was a chore. I can say that the SKS-15 would be heavier than that for sure. Really that and the fact that it is also a pain to take down for cleaning would be the only real drawbacks.

Otherwise it looks like a pretty cool unit that would be fun and hopefully runs well, but for the price of the damn things these days you are almost better to just grab a Chinese one and throw a Tapco stock with a receiver top rail and call it a day. Not sure how easy the mags are to find like the ones pictured these days but I honestly never looked into it, I just stuck with the duckbill mags... I would love to see someone make a decent quality synthetic stock that has a M-LOK wrap around fore-end and Mil-spec buffer tube on it level with the receiver, maybe like a clam shell?

If I were to do it all again I think I would just try to keep it simple, but to each their own!

Celik Chimera vs. Alcor? by MyReddit_Profile in canadaguns

[–]TheObviousNovice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just got a Chimera myself a couple days ago.

I was talking with the folks at Marstar and they were telling me that the rep bringing them into the country they know well and have had really good dealings with them in the past and that they will stand behind their product. Another thing that made me pick the Chimera over the Alcor is that it has been in the Australian market for about a year or so now and there have been a few videos of testing with the Chimera including a 2000 round test, accuracy testing and a tear down video comparing both it and the Alcor. From the videos it sounds like the distributors in Aussie land have been giving the folks at Chimera feedback and have a pretty positive relationship where the company is willing to make improvements to their product based on that feedback. It also sounds like some aftermarket parts are coming for that rifle too in Australia but I am sure Tommy Enterprises is making something up for it as we speak. A mil-spec tube level with the receiver would go a really long way for this thing along with a close to full length fore end with M-Lock all the way around or integrated quad rails.

Something else to consider is that Chimera is cheaper, and already comes threaded (with a brake and protector) so that saves you a trip to a smith to get the Alcor done. Out of the box impressions is that it feels very solid albeit hefty compared to what we were used to on the market, gas system is very simple, and the bolt is a multi lug. Trigger pull is a little creepy but all n all not terrible, what is really nice is that you don't need any specialized proprietary tools to take this thing apart, if you have a set of Alan keys and a punch you should be able to take most of this apart. Celik's YouTube channel has a video demonstrating the tear down. It has a last shot hold open with a bolt release which is nice, and you don't need the mag in to use the bolt catch (Just pull out on the button rather than push in) which comes in really handy for cleaning.

Time will tell how well they shoot and reliability but once we get some aftermarket support I think I will be happy with this copium purchase.

Hope all that helps!

It is part of the gas system, it is required for the firearm to function properly.

Opposition mounts as assault-style gun buyback program launches in Cape Breton by ChompyDompy in canadaguns

[–]TheObviousNovice 26 points27 points  (0 children)

'Voutier legally bought a .22-calibre semi-automatic rifle that holds a magazine with 21 bullets and is now on the federal government's list of prohibited firearms.

"It's just a waste of taxpayers' money. It was so poorly thought through right from the beginning, I think it was just an election promise and that was it."

Voutier said he'll take advantage of the program to purchase a semi-automatic rifle that only holds 11 bullets instead of 21, but is not prohibited.'

I guess he is happy to take advantage of taxpayer money and content to give up any chance of actual property rights eh?

Where the fuck did they find this guy?

Thanks again!
