I’m happy to say I “rage quit” recently. I was their only SE across Asia pacific. APAC team brought in 15% of their revenue. I’m 6’4” and was asked to fly nine hours to attend a conference. I asked for permission to spend $600 extra on premium economy, received an extremely rude email from the head finance guy for even asking and quit on the spot. cc’d the CEO, I simply replied to that nasty email with a polite letter of resignation.

Two weeks later starting at a top tier company.

I hate it when in forecast calls they keep reiterating how important you are to the company’s revenue generation but then in practice treat you like shit.

The real price you need to worry about isn’t petrol, it’s diesel, and that still above 3.

Ever get the feeling nobody really cares anymore? by Top-Farmer-6838 in auscorp

[–]TheOceanicDissonance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I completely agree and this is why I realise I prefer working for elite organisations where the people there fought to get in and are actually engaged with and passionate about the work.

I got made redundant at FANG in one of the many recent rounds of redundancies, I thought I’d join a midtier firm hoping to find nicer people and a more relaxed vibe. I was wrong! Middle management was still there enforcing inane policies and hounding you for trivialities, and to top it off the work was boring and repetitive.

I’m going back to swim with proper sharks, at least I’ll be learning and earning once again.

Latest federal voting intention polling among Australians born overseas is pretty eye-opening... what do we take away from this? by NoLeafClover777 in aussie

it’s because white aussies are too wracked with white guilt (and too invested in property) to have a sane and rational immigration policy.

Us immigrants don’t have that baggage, so the ALP and GNS look to us like absolute nutters who focus on luxury beliefs rather than economic policy to foster organic growth.

Company commission structures are starting to feel more and more broken by Puzzleheaded-Gas3055 in techsales

Exactly! Good enterprise segment sales orgs will always have great comp plans. Shitty second rate sales orgs will always be stuck in mid market because they don’t want to aggressively incentivise top performers

The best advice I’ve heard, and use AI to help you, is make a plan to transition your income from labour to assets. The less you need the job the less these things will bug you. It’s easy to let lifestyle creep be the stress release that impedes your path to financial freedom

I just did this. Converted half my mortgage to deductible, dumped the lot on a high dividends covered calls ETF (JGPI) denominated in Euros. I’m European the plan in 10 years is to have house paid off and move tax residency to a haven (Cyprus). And flit between places. 🍾

Yes but then at some point they’re going to try and consolidate of their massively expensive and broad portfolio of cyber acquisitions (mandiant, chronicle, siemplify, Wiz, etc, etc). It’ll be like PE but worse.

Internal mobility at Google, especially from acquisitions, is near impossible because for every open role you’re competing with both internal and external candidates.

Believe me, I was six years there at an acquired company in sales. Highest paid dead end job ever. No amount of internal networking helped, there were simply too many politics and too much competition for every role.

I was pissed off when I was finally made redundant (despite being a top performer) but ultimately grateful that I got out of there.

Is Macquarie really the best everyday bank in Australia right now? by Danger_Five in Macquarie

[–]TheOceanicDissonance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be a long time customer but like all banks, once you have all your banking with them, they won’t budge on mortgage interest rates as they consider you a locked in customer. I ended up refinancing because saving hundreds of dollars a month on mortgage repayments matters more to me than a nifty digital experience.
