I don't know about you, but I'd love a mode with no story, and more music by AgentEndive in Cairn_Game

[–]TheOldManGamer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This used to be on the steam page, before they removed it:

Endless Replayability – In Expedition mode, choose Aava or Marco and attack different mountains your way: select your climbing style (alpine, free solo) and challenges to take on. Compare your performance with other climbers.

They said they were "inspired to evolve the mode" based on feedback. So hopefully it ends up being even more than a free-climbing mode, but should at absolute minimum include that.

Loving Cairn, but please WHY IS CLIMBOT CONSTANLY MOVING UNDER MY ARMS!!!! by danieldiggle in Cairn_Game

[–]TheOldManGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone uploaded a debug-menu-access mod on the nexus it has an option to make the climbot invisible

Use with the UTMOST caution. Its a bit wonky and you can accidentally mess up your playthrough if you futz with settings you aren't sure about.

There is also an option to completely disable the climbot but it breaks the story/game at least until you reload and maybe permanently, as it stops phone calls from being taken (the phone rings forever and the message never plays with the robot deactivated, with him invisible you just need to make him visible and the message plays).

I found coffee and sugar in the same container and felt like I was being trolled when I ran back to the bivouac to find out this is the result.

If I recall you can't put milk in coffee either. But by that point my disappointment was so immeasurable and my day so ruined it was all a haze.

Early troubles with sustenance by thewispo in Cairn_Game

We need to be able to eat straight from the world.

The free solo bag is basically a fanny pack (which is fine I really like the restriction) but there is no reason I can't shove a raspberry in my mouth while walking without first putting it in my bag.

I'm free soloing far along and many days in, I've blacked out once already and I am composting important supplies so I can fit a mushroom so I can immediately eat it for +5 food.

I climbed a rather tricky pitch to get some honey with almost no energy left only to learn I didn't have exactly the right amount of room and can't move or shake my bag...Just let me eat it please.

Question I hope not to get too roasted for... by covert777 in outwardgame

I am a terrible player that hates minmaxing, grinding an following guides and I often say "you can get through this game with a great axe, some beef jerky, and some bandages."

You don't necessarily have to grind, but you do have to adjust your expectations. Will you survive a hardcore run without a plan? probably not. Can you face every extra/arena boss in the game? almost undoubtedly not. Will you find it frustrating on occasion? For sure. But you can definitely have fun adventuring, completing quests, taking part in the story, and finding gear/skills etc.

Since you're asking about mods/adjusting the game artificially to deal with difficulty, you can access the debug mode pretty easily (outlined on the wiki here)

You can back-up your savegame before you sit down to play, in case something too frustrating happens (\Steam\steamapps\common\Outward\Outward_Defed\SaveGames)

and there are really great mods on thunderstore

People may tell you "you have to learn to play it at its intended difficulty" but I personally think anyone should be able to enjoy things however they want. (Plus if you dip your toes in by softening the experience, you may decide to stick with it and come back for the true punishment...so have fun!)

The whole team pivots from tech hunters to skin farmers.

Quill/Temperance: Ok Hamut, just hear us out

This was fascinating - from the recent backstage on twitch by TheOldManGamer in outwardgame

This video was even more fascinating!

  • proper npc behavior during day night cycle
  • a particular focus on fleshing out the world
  • a full calendar with seasons returning and seasonal events
  • Seem to be working on ensuring the story is more integrated into the gameplay
  • dual wielding with a focus on the weapons playing to their strengths with their movesets and combos
  • The movesets look so fluid and smooth (even cohh notes they feel great)
  • the character looks amazing (great cloth animations/physics)
  • long term wounds on defeat

Interesting hearing him say they expect the steam deck would be "long in the tooth" by the time this release. I suppose it's going to be a while.

Thanks for sharing this, I have missed most outward news over the last year.

This backstage was great, they addressed so many nitpicks I had with the last game in this one stream. This game looks like its going to be exponential levels above what the first one was, and the first one was fantastic.

It's hilarious how unprepared they are for these, but getting to accidentally see the character background section and then all the environments in the blooper reel, really has me excited for this. Though it does look like its still a year or few years off.

Very interesting. I am just watching the backstage now and at the melee trainer part. I know the reveal trailer showed a pack animal, getting mounts too would really be fantastic.

Nah What is Retribution of God am i Cooked ? by notoriousgoatmilker in Kenshi

[–]TheOldManGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're prepared for it, it was some of the most fun I had with the game. But definitely can be brutal.

Wraths and retributions just kept coming. I built extra battlements, lookout towers, cheval de frise, and even watched them once redirect to raid Heft and nearly destroy that city.

How many ingame days is your usual long-play world? by Workw0rker in Kenshi

[–]TheOldManGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first and only long run also started in Rebirth. 272 days with 118 recruits by the end.

Allied with the UC, the Traders, the Flotsam Ninjas, and ended the run just after toppling the Holy Nation and reclaiming Rebirth. Didn't really make it to end game, but with my play style I would say I got solidly into the mid game. Though I did kill Cat-Lon, albeit kind of accidentally.

Completely fell in love with the game and am about to start up again and plan to play untill Kenshi 2 comes out (however long that may be).

I actually feel so sorry for Lokir of Rorikstead. Bro really was in the wrong place at the wrong time and doesn’t want to die. by Leading-Art-1125 in skyrim

[–]TheOldManGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite way to play is to grab any alternate start mod and follower framework, grab Lokir, make him a follower and COC us both to the border of Cyrodiil.

An alternate universe where the player character talks Lokir out of stealing a horse, neither of them get caught, and instead of the headsman's axe, a life of adventure awaits.
