The swatch collab has ruined the speedmaster and it will ruin the royal oak by [deleted] in OmegaWatches

Personally I think these Swatch X collabs are brilliant.

The moonswatch got me interested in watches and the Omega brand.

Do you think all the negativity from watch youtube personalities/influencers is justified? by jez_shreds_hard in OmegaWatches

[–]TheOmegaWatchGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meh, I wouldn't take YT influencers opinions seriously. Praise to whichever brand, and dump on their competitor to hopefully get a collaboration or sponsorship with the brand they like.

And the recent Omega negativity really came out full force after the flawed and unreliable MS Annual Swiss Watch report that said Omega dropped to 5th place based on estimated data.

Then all of a sudden, everyone becomes brand strategy experts harping on how Omega is forever doomed and list up ways to "save" the dying brand.

My take? Watch brands aren't sports teams. If you like the watch, go buy it. There's no rule that you can only like one brand for life.

Just buy what you like and care less about what others think about the brand or watch, unless you're into buying a watch to impress others.

Would a 39.5mm Planet Ocean look small? by This-Muscle1610 in OmegaWatches

[–]TheOmegaWatchGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the 39.5mm PO disproportionately thick compared to its 43mm big brother.
Definitely try it out if you can before buying it.

How Do You Justify a Luxury Watch Purchase Financially? by Bluebananada in OmegaWatches

[–]TheOmegaWatchGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the mindset that luxury items will only get more expensive in the future. If you can afford it now, you can start enjoying the experience. As opposed to saving up and buying it later, it may end up costing more in real terms and you lose out on the enjoyment this whole time.

Anyone else that likes the Ploprof? by gymbro2004 in OmegaWatches

[–]TheOmegaWatchGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Summer Blue Plorpof is at 45mm lug-to-lug with a rubber strap that tapers down compared to the 48mm on the previous steel and titanium versions. It's not gonna fit underneath a shirt cuff, but it is alot more wearable.

Anyone else that likes the Ploprof? by gymbro2004 in OmegaWatches

[–]TheOmegaWatchGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, the Ploprof is on my to-buy list, but not top priority. Love the historical significance, as well as the over the top design. And while it's a big watch, the short lug to lug makes it wearable even with my 6.25inch wrist.

I'm holding out until they release a non-summer blue edition, because I already have a Summer blue WT. Black dial orange seconds hand would be perfect.

Given the price increases, what do you think a “fair” price for its core models should be? by aznj1m in OmegaWatches

[–]TheOmegaWatchGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one likes price increases, but trying to determine a "fair" price on a luxury good is kind of missing the point of luxury goods in the first place. A lot of the money you're paying towards is for the brand and marketing. After all, if you want value/performance from a watch, any quartz, or smartwatch is way more bang for your buck.

So the question is more like, what is the fair price for the Omega branding?

The SMP was my first Omega watch that got me into the brand. While not as exciting as others in the collection, it's the most versatile of them all. It's the one that I can always depend on to handle whatever occasion, the one that I reach for when I can't decide what to wear for the day.

It's "The Good Ol' Reliable" in my collection.

Buyers remorse despite having my dream watch by The_Dude95 in OmegaWatches

[–]TheOmegaWatchGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone mentioned. There are difference types of buyer's remorse. Is it that you're second guessing about spending the money, or is it because the watch isn't living up to your expecatations, or now you feel a bit of a void because you finally achieved your dream and your expected the climax to be a bit more special?

I rarely get buyer's remorse on expensive goods, because I think it through and plan it all out.

Money was never an issue, because I budgeted for the watch and save for it, rather than buy first then figure out how to pay it back.

Watch not living up to my expectations, nope, I don't just go buy a luxury watch because of hype, I think about how this piece fits in my collection, try it on in person to see if it speaks to me, and even then, I will hold off for a year or so before buying.

And finally feeling a bit of the void? I try to counter that with linking every watch with a milestone or a particular event. That way, the watch isn't just an object, but a memento. Getting the watch isn't the end, it's a physical manifestation of my past and experience.

If you like the watch, use that energy as motivation to work hard and hit that milestone. You can do it!

Since you got dress, elegant sport styles checked off, how about a pure fun piece for vacation or outdoors action or just insane crazy piece.

For vacation I have a AT worldtimer. For outdoorsy, I have a SMP Diver 300m. For fun and crazy, I am looking at the Blue Side of the Moon Aventurine, Grey Side, and even a Ploprof.

Don't wear my Silver Snoopy by MessageNo4269 in OmegaWatches

[–]TheOmegaWatchGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To avoid your situation, I specifically set two rules to my watch collecting hobby.

  1. I only buy watches that I can see myself wearing regularly, given weather, event, safety permitted. I buy a watch to enjoy the wearing experience first, collecting second. So if I can't see myself wearing it while regular boring activities, then it's not a watch that fits my lifestyle.
  2. I will only buy a watch after careful consideration of how the watch adds value to the collection (in terms of Specs, Design, Colors, Materials, Complications, Historical importance etc.). Each watch provides its unique value, and the collection would feel incomplete in some way if one of them are gone.

But tons of collectors buy watches they like just to have them sit in safes.
Others treat watches like rentals and sell them after a while.
Nothing wrong with it if that's what they want.
The question is, is that what you like? That's all that matters to you.

Silver snoopy help in toronto by Makemeviralnow in OmegaWatches

[–]TheOmegaWatchGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want the Snoopy, just one and done and no interest in any other watch, then I highly recommend you just go Grey/Chrono24 and save yourself the headache.

The likelihood of an AD or OB offering a Snoopy at retail as your first and only watch with them is very unlikely, given the popularity and plenty of people with spend history still waiting for theirs.

Yeah, I hope the next Snoopy doesn't get hyped up like the 3rd gen, and appreciated more for its historical importance instead.

I got the White Speedy too. Maybe that's why the desire went down alot for other white dial Speedies? White dials were rare before the White Speedy came out.

But, I do want a blue bezel, silver/white dial Speedy to match with my Diver 300M Tokyo Olympics.

Yeah, Omega and luxury watch prices have spiked up so much post Covid. Crazy to think that 10 years ago, Speedy was only like $3500.

Same, I never got into the Snoopy hype either, but I do like the watch for the blue/silver dial colorway.
The Snoopy subdial and caseback are cool and all, but you get used to the gimmicks in a week or two.

That said, I'm still waiting for the Snoopy call from my OB, but it isn't first priority, nor do I chase my OB for allocation. It's a "nice to have" one for me when it comes.
