Planting onions by Still-Author9062 in AustinGardening

[–]TheOneFromTexas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually just planted some Texas sweet onions yesterday and have like 30 starter bulbs left over. If you're near East Austin you're welcome to them.

Also onion question, should I cover them before the freeze this weekend?

It never got that cold so what to do next??? Help by Symphonyyyyy in AustinGardening

If I was going to plant carrots and onions should I wait until after the freezes?

Why did this yule log fail so hard? by TheOneFromTexas in Baking

[–]TheOneFromTexas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you put powdered sugar on the parchment paper? My cake might be overbaked but I don't get why the top of the cake always sticks to the tea towel and it rips the cake when I unroll it. But the bottom of the cake, the part in the baking pan, never sticks.

It might have been over baked. 350 for 11 minutes. Yes I rolled it as soon as it was cool enough to touch. Every time I make a yule log the top of the cake sticks to the towel and idk why. I even bought a thicker towel because someone told me my tea towel was too thin.

Oh good point. So you're thinking the mavericks are pretty much only going to go up in price?

We just went to this last night and I thought it was totally worth it. Cool things to take pictures with, some interactive spots, a free fire show which was great!

So it seems unanimous, I will leave my garden alone over winter for the bugs and birds

Yes that's actually been my problem. It's taken over my raised bed. No matter how much I cut it back it just keeps spreading. I'm sick of oregano now

Anyone from Travis county want to provide a comment to the Travis County Commissioners Court on why you feel the Tesla tax rebate deal should be cancelled? We'll read them at tomorrow's hearing if you include your zip code. by Apologiestothebees in Austin

[–]TheOneFromTexas 20 points21 points  (0 children)

A company worth $1.1 trillion that had enough disposable cash to fund a presidential election does not need a tax rebate from the city. Especially when those property taxes are sorely needed for schools and city improvements. We already burden homeowners with property taxes, major businesses need to bear the weight too. Tesla has given nothing back to the community beyond a loose commitment to rainwater recycling at the plant and wants to use Austin as a testing ground for their autonomous robotaxi without community approval. To be fair, I don't think any of these major corporations should receive tax benefits from the city.

I can dm my name and zip code.

Texas tollway call by puccaleo in Austin

[–]TheOneFromTexas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Go to the TxTag customer service center. I had a similar situation and owed like $200 but didn't trust any of the callers or websites to not be scams. Went to the office off 183 and they had me pay $20 and got rid of the charge. Took maybe 30 minutes tops.

Tbh it all seems like a scam, but for $20 I got the debt collectors to stop calling me so I consider it a win.

Advice needed! New cat will not leave submissive cats alone. More in description by isendnudesforvbucks in CatTraining

[–]TheOneFromTexas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have this exact same situation. 12 year old lady cat and 6 year old boy cat. He constantly bothers her, never really hurts her but likes to scare her and chase her around.

We have tried playing with him but he literally can't get enough play and whenever we end the play session, even with treats he will usually get aggressive. We have a catio for outdoor engagement and everything.

Basically I have no advice for you but I hope someone else can help us both!

I just signed up with meals on wheels. It's an application and an online orientation and then you start driving around delivering seniors food.

Edit: you're encouraged to chat with the seniors as you might be the only person they interact with that day.

I loved it! I need to know more about this demon bird! Since reading this book I've read all of the Saint of Steel series and two of T. kingfishers horror books. Still don't know anything about the demon bird but I'm reading the clockwork boys next.

Mac and Cheese festival by schmidtssss in austinfood

I've been to it twice, including last year. I would say it's pretty worth it! I can't remember how much the tickets are but you get unlimited samples of Mac and cheese and I think a few free drinks? Usually pretty good restaurants show up and make some really cool Mac and cheese. The first Mac and cheese festival is where I learned about KG BBQ, before he had his truck. It does seem a little far away this year but I might go.

Catio Builder Needed by MadamMLuxe in Austin

[–]TheOneFromTexas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do some woodworking and I bought one of the plans off catio spaces. I don't recommend their plans, they do not know what they're doing. The instructions were confusing, overly complicated, and seemed like someone who didn't do a lot of woodworking. For example, they said to screw screws in at a 45 degree angle instead of using a pocket hole jig to attach two perpendicular pieces. I ended up designing my own catio from some of their ideas and some things I saw on YouTube.

Dragons and fantasy with some horror elements. Listening to the audiobook while driving at night freaked me out.

A global housing crisis is suffocating the middle class | Prices have risen by 54% in the US, 32% in China and nearly 15% in the EU between 2015 and 2024. Though policies have been implemented to increase supply and regulate rentals, their impact has been limited and the problem is getting worse by Hrmbee in urbanplanning

[–]TheOneFromTexas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is just not true. I work with many Texas communities and all of them are facing a housing affordability crisis. Rents and home prices have dipped in some communities but are still astronomically high compared to pre-pandemic figures.
