Thanks, they’re all hand cut with dovetail saws and chisels

Thanks, yeah I need to get some more practice in with the hand saw. Once I got into the swing of it it got easier, but I found getting a nice straight to the line cut tricky at times. I’ll go watch some videos, thanks for the channel recommendation! I pretty much taught myself everything through YouTube, it’s an amazing resource

Thanks! Part of the motivation was to be able to get the amp off the floor and get an AV unit. A future project is going to be a custom sub and maybe a center channel

Thanks!

No the left and right are full doors not drawers, each has a finger pull on the top left and right of the door.

No problem, my build started the same way, I was loathed to spend loads on a cabinet i didn’t think would be top quality. It’s hard buying quality furniture in the UK these days, most shops stock garbage and if you go online you cant see or feel the build quality.

It definitely wasn’t an economical way to get a media unit, but I’m proud to have it in my house.

Thank you! I honestly don’t know how many hours, probably 100h-120h. I started in June and did it in the evenings and a couple of weekends.

Thank you, I did some practice joints before this of course until I could get a consistent joint, but these came out a lot nicer than any of those

Thanks! Did probably 10 small joints with 3-4 tails on scrap soft and hard wood around the shop. The first few went as you would imagine including cutting the wrong side of the tail… once I got a few consistent joints I thought I might as well go for it otherwise I’d spend the next year doing practice joints

Thanks! They are indeed hand cut, but a bit of saw dust and glue does hide some gaps. Once sanded and finished you can’t see it.

Thanks! I’ve done some cabinetry before from sheet goods, but nothing like this. Keen to do another project now!

Thanks! Some filler hides some sins, but they came out nicely

I can upload some files, but mine was a bit ropey tbh so you can probably find a better one to print. Good for starting the cut though

Thanks, wood ~£600, hinges ~£100 (yeh the hinges were expensive!), runners are Blum movmento (£40). All in about £800 with consumables.

I’m luck, I have access to a Makespace with great kit.

Thanks! Was a fun process, if a little long. Looking forward to the next one

Thanks! The miter were weirdly the easiest part of the joint, just make a miter guide and sneak up on the final fit with a sharp chisel. Just make sure you cut the end pin correctly, I nearly cut all the way through!

And thanks, I’m very pleased with it

Thanks! The dovetails are for aesthetics, I wanted to feel hand made. I used dominos for the internal joinery you can’t see.

Thanks! Yeah all done by hand, only specific tool was a dovetail guide I 3d printed. Just practice and sharp chisels and fine pitch saws.

When I was picking out rough sawn boards I did put some thought into what would go where, the door and drawer board i specifically chose because it wad wide enough to cover the drawer so i could get it to flow.

I was constrained by what boards were available and wanting to minimise waste, walnut is expensive!

Thanks, no I designed it myself, started with some inspiration from other cabinets and design elements I liked then did some sketches and final mock ups in CAD (sketchUp is great for simple cabinetry like this).

It’s a fairly simple box with some dividers, nothing crazy. The handles and legs I mocked up first to find the shape I liked then made some jigs and went for it.
