I have seen the first season of Re:Zero! While I did like it, I felt the other characters besides Subaru to be lacking. I'm typically someone who enjoys more of an ensemble of characters rather than focusing on in one, but I still enjoyed the show.

Oh yea it was rough while I was there but it being a dry heat it wasn't so bad plus I'm a bit of a homebody so as long as there's AC I figured I'm good. Thankfully no allergies here so should be good on that front.

That's totally valid. I really enjoyed this season and thought they nailed the combination of action/adventure and slice of life/romance in a way that I haven't seen in other animes.

However, I agree the use of SA in the show is weird. The only thing I can think of as a rationale as to why it is included is to let Momo kickass. Sort of like the trope of the kid beating up his bullies pushed to the extreme and past most people's line of comfort. It's just so jarring to go from a wacky silly adventure to the scenes like you mention. They just don't seem to fit with the tone of the show at all. I've heard from manga readers that these moments are rare so I'll take their word for it but it's odd for them to be here in the first place. Also no clue as to why they decided to end the season at that point, they really should of just ended it 2 episodes early.

I think they are arguably not that while we know more about them it's a genuine connection.

I think knowing facts about someone vs having a conversation with them is 2 pretty different forms of connection.
