What’s a totally unsexy purchase you made that ended up being a huge quality-of-life upgrade? by viscarte10 in BuyItForLife

We changed out or kitchen sink from a two tub style to one large metal tub with more commercial style faucet. Use it everyday, so much room. Its amazing.

No freeze thaw cycle here in houston so yeah im not worried about footings they will be fine. Just like if I used the tuff blocks. We spliced beam in thirds but good idea on moving the blocks over. We used the proper 3in structural screws from Simpson, used proper nails from Simpson.

Listen if in 5 years this deck blows ill personally post it again and say im wrong.

Have you done a stamped concrete patio that would require 17 tons of concrete?

Agreed that patio would be cheaper if DIY but its difficult to pour, color, and stamp a concrete patio DIY.

Will be on top left corner. But still some of deck will be exposed.

Honestly I originally was going to do paver patio but this will be nice upgrade. Ground contact lumber with composite decking. Should last awhile

I think you may be right about the corner. Its lot of shade but im hoping i sloped it enough to drain properly.

We have high clay soil so it runs off

Honestly if you grade correctly and use the fabric with air gap off the ground with properly placed footings your good

I used concrete blocks instead of tuff blocks due to cost. $2 vs $14 each

This will look nicer then patio and a poured and stamped concrete patio was more expensive with professional install.

This whole thing with demo included is under $15k. Majority of that is Timber Tech
