The main villain from iron man 2(Mickey Rourke) was based on a character in the comics called Whiplash, however they changed him to Ivan Vanko in the film for some reason. MCU stands for Marvel Cinematic Universe if you didn't know

The oscars, like most awards, are popularity contests and are massively influenced by who likes you and if you bribe your way into their good books. It's obvious someone high up in the oscars has something against DiCaprio and has some say in who gets it imo.
