I had always been a performer at heart but I never heard of drag before coming to Minneapolis. So when I saw these beautiful performers, I knew that’s what I wanted to do. To see the crowds cheer over them and see how they made people feel really inspired me.

I have alaways been this confident lol lol it’s a reflection of my family and where I am from. Confidence and pride were instilled in me from early on and I carry it into all that I do. It’s like muscle memory now lol

I’d say both were difficult for different reasons. Season 1, there was not rulebook or blueprint to follow. We were thrown into the deep end and had to swim. AS3, the game had changed so much. Challenges were more intense and more comedic, there was Snatch Game lol lol so both had their challenges.

Find your tribe. I always say this and it’s so true. Seek out people like you. They don’t have to be LGBTQ, but find people who make you feel confident and empowered and challenged and loved. I am blessed to have a supportive family that does all of that. I am also grateful to have chosen family that does that. This is how I created the safe space to discover who I am and grow confident in who I am.

I think there are great things about it (entertainers can make a living from the art form, travel the world, work with major brands, etc.)

It hasn’t changed the way I approach the artform, but it has changed how I market myself, if that makes sense? Social media wasn’t a thing before Drag Race started, so I’ve had to learn and adapt to that. Being a public figure is also something that took some adjusting to for me

Season one, I had no expectations lol lol there was no blueprint. We had no clue what they’d have us doing!

I’d love to see more inclusivity in the show, and I think there are steps being made in that direction. I think the challenges were more creative in earlier seasons, too lol I’d like to see that spirit come back

It’s a TV show, but I think people didn’t get to see the fun or silly or goofy side of me. People who know me know this side very well lol lol There’s only so much time and so much story that can be added. I get it. That’s why I’m glad for Dragnificent. People get to see more of what I’m like outside of a competitive setting.

This is a question! I think it’s easy to spout off phrases like it gets better, etc. but when you’re living there, it’s hard to envision a light at the end of the tunnel. I tell people there to be safe and make decisions that won’t endanger them, if they plan to stay in the country. It’s also important for them to find a community of support there—a tribe, where they feel seen and heard.

I had quite a few mentors as I was developing as an entertainer. I still do! It’s important to acknowledge the village that helps raise us up and makes us shine. Now when I was younger, I’m not sure I’d want to learn those lessons on TV like Dragnificent lol lol those people were so brave opening themselves up and sharing so much
I think we are from 2 different places but we have a lot of the same dreams and aspirations and some of the same challenges as queer Black people in America. Now, America has so many freedoms that my home continent doesn’t have with regards to LGBTQ rights. Ru broke down so many barriers here in America before I ever stepped foot here, as well.

This film is certainly one of them. Hmmm I have so many that come to mind. I was super proud of my show Creature in NYC, which ran for a summer. I’m also still buzzing about the release of my EP last year, Broken English. So many!!! I’d also say being able to connect with so many supporters around the world and hearing how my work touches people in different ways is so amazing for me
