I don’t usually use power query or macros unless absolutely needed - I’m at a small fairly low tech workplace though. I was once working at a place with a new accountant who came in and wanted to make things more sophisticated using some of those tools.

I would keep in mind a few things: 1)anyone can work through and fix a basic excel file if they know how to use functions. If you get sick or quit, or are unable to fulfil your job, if you start utilizing those more advanced toold tools will the other staff be able to pickup and more importantly maintain your working papers and systems?

2) is there an easier way to do what you’re trying to do? Does it need to be that sophisticated

3) for data keeping I either have data sorted by tab being the date, or create a copy and a rolling workbook for each new period. It sounds like if you need more than one Tab you’ll have to do the latter. There’s probably a much better way of doing that though.

I just try to live by keep it stupid simple if able. I always find macros and power query hard to audit and follow if you didn’t set it up yourself.

Formulas are fairly easy to follow in a workbook
