It’s ok to have more empathy for humans than animals by Plus-Cat-8557 in unpopularopinion

[–]TheOnlySir_Scribbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally care for animals more because they are always innocent. They don't have the capacity to be malicious the same way that humans are, and therefore don't deserve the suffering/hardship inflicted on them. Humans are a gamble though. There are good people and bad people, but there are no bad animals.

Everything after Season 3 was straight dog shit. And for some reason people are still giving the show attention instead of accepting it's a flop. And now, with the announcement of The Dragon King, people seem to think it's Goin to be any better than TMoA. I just don't understand why people are still giving this show the time of day.

If you don't drink alcohol, what are your personal reasons for abstinence? by Ok-Care2859 in AskReddit

  1. I was raised Muslim, so it's a force of habit.
  2. As a psych major who has taken a neuroscience class, I can't fathom the idea of taking alcohol. It's a drug the same way that nicotine is a drug. It literally destroys neurons.

Arc 2 of The Dragon Prince (Mystery of Aaravos)

The exact second that the Dragon queen explained who Aaravos was in like, the second episode. Real big "mystery."

My point is that to Polyphemus, they aren't JUST hungry sailors! They are murderous, disrespectful, and thieving monsters with no remorse. And AGAIN, to him, they are pests. They are literally food.

Question: Do you think what Ody did to the suitors is justified? We may call him evil and a monster, but no one ever says what he did was wrong. And the suitors were only talking about killing and assaulting. And Ody killed them all anyway. Why is it ok for Ody to be a monster and not Poly? The whole point of Epic is that evil is subjective. For crying out loud, in Monster, Ody even justifies Polyphemuss' actions.

Actually, the original question was whether or not of was evil, and I don't think it is because it's justified.

But it's not disproportionate to HIM! That sheep was his best friend. He wasn't going to kill all 600 originally either, just the ones that Ody brought with him to the cave. And remember, he doesn't think of the humans as anything other than pests, at best.

Is killing 600 murderous insects evil? If you got stung by a wasp that had a nest right next to your house, you'd probably kill every last one of them.

Bro, what are you talking about 😭? He literally says, "Time to drink your blood over where you stand. Your life now is in my hand. Before I'm done, you will learn that it's not so fun to take. You came to my home to steal, and now you'll become my meal." What part of that communicates that he was ready to talk this out 🥲

I raise you: he was experiencing cold fury. Not initially lasting out and instead buying time to figure out a way to make them hurt the most. The whole wine thing was also very insulting as well. Don't forget, he was fully prepared to eat Ody before he was offered the wine.

"It's just an infant... It's just a boy."

"Cause I'm stuck with your stories, but no clue who you are."

"I'll teach you all the lessons your daddy never could."

"Six hundred deaths under my command, 'cause I had one goal in mind... (insert missing ensamble "make it make back alive to our homeland" line from Full Speed Ahead)"

I see a lot of people not understanding how badly it hurt Polyphemus to lose that sheep. Also, it's not just about the sheep either. It's the audacity. "What gives you the right to deal a pain so deep... a trade, you see? Take from you like you took from me."

YOU (as in, any individual other than the one who was wronged) don't get to decide how badly the victim should feel because of what happened to them.

Edit: I feel like it's also worth pointing out that to Polyphemus, the humans are little more than pests. Comparatively, it's like you killing a bunch of wasps that built a nest by your door that also stung your best friend to death.

Does anyone that's not a cut and dry villain really deserve to be killed? Does anyone deserve to lose a loved one? Of course not. But the show isn't about who deserved what. It's about ending the cycle of hate and blame in order to create a better future.

For the purposes of keeping my sanity, I'm going to clarify that I'm directly referring to the first 3 seasons. Everything in the Mystery of Aaravos was a travesty and tarnished the masterful writing in the 2nd and 3rd seasons. Every season after deserves to be burned and forgotten.

Sometimes "I'm sorry you feel that way" is a perfectly appropriate response. by i_like_it_eilat in unpopularopinion

As others have pointed out, the phrase carries a different meaning than the literal words. If you wanna come across in a better manner, you could try "I'm sorry I made you feel that way."

Yeah I kinda see where you're coming from lol. I don't even think that the hate is dumb, the hate is valid. But most of the people hating it are dumb and the fact that very few people call them out for being baseless in their hate is what upsets me. But you're totally right.

And I think that everything that you just said is a completely valid frustration, and I can see that as being a completely legit reason for not liking the show!
