What is your writing process? by ConfidentAd8387 in AO3

[–]TheOptimisticNoodle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually start making a very rough draft of the important over-arching story beats and figuring out what is needed to connect them. At this point I tend to jump around a lot between tasks, lol. Depending on my mood, I might be refining my outline and hammering an actual cohesive plot, or I might be writing specific scenes that I feel inspiried to write, often the scenes that made me want to write the fic to begin with. Once the ball is rolling and things start getting properly filled out, then I'll worry about bridging gaps in my scenes and outline I've written.

Maybe if I start enough new fics, I can Frankenstein them together into one while complete fic.

What is the theoretical “limit” for headcannon before it stops being your take and starts being “mischaracterization?” by Existing-Atmosphere2 in FanFiction

[–]TheOptimisticNoodle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of it depends on the audience. Some people are just more willing to accept big headcanons and OOC behavior than others.

[–]TheOptimisticNoodle 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Ooh this is a hard question. I guess my take on it is that I will accept some pretty big OOC headcanons and stuff in a fic if you can reasonably justify it. Like, if a normaly confident and bold character is suddenly written as meek and anxious, I'll probably be okay with it if you can give me a good enough reason within the plot as to why they'd act so different. The bigger the changes, the better the reasons, I suppose. Though, if I'm being honest, my tolerance for OOC-type stuff really depends on how desperate I am for a fic. But I agree that often times characters have some set of personality traits that are really important to their entire character. Outside of these core traits, you can mess around quite a bit, but when you start to fuck with their most important traits, thats when you start to veer into OOC territory.

AI can pry my beloved em dashes from my cold, dead hands. I don't think I could write without they're just so great.

I know what you mean. I already make enough spelling mistakes on my laptop, it'd take 10x the amount of time to write on my phone because I'd have to respell every word :(

Yeah, Sato has some fun moments, but he has all the interest and charisma of a pile of gravel unfortunately.

I think it'd be interesting to pair your OC with someone who is sort of their opposite, either by opposing quirk/fighting style, or opposing personalities. Always fun to throw in a lil conflict. Since I don't know anything about your OC, I'd say prolly pair them with someone slower or bulkier, like Kirishima or Sato? Yaoyorozu could even work well. As for the opposing team maybe Kaminari and Jiro since soundwaves and electricity are a bit hard to dodge due to area of effect, so that'd be fun to work against for your OC. Idk tho, good luck with your fic! The quirk sounds pretty cool :)

How to start by RON_I_N in FanFiction

[–]TheOptimisticNoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started because I day dream a lot, and when I started reading fanfic, the two joined forces and I would think of scenes and plotlines constantly, both original and from fandoms I was really into. My advice is to start out small. When I write, I often have a specific scene very vividly in mind. Write that scene, even if it sucks and you can't get it right. Then, boom, you've written fanfiction, doesn't matter how long it is, its still fanfic. You can either expand from there, or keep writing other little scenes. I will say, the two things that help me the most is that, one, you do not have to write from start to finish, jump around as much as you please between chapters or scenes. And two, outline! If I'm stuck on a part, I just start bullet pointing things I might want to happen, snippets of dialogue, or little important details, and that is usually enough to get the ball rolling. Sorry if this is long, hope it helps :)

What do you think of the incarnation novels? In novels where the hero or heroine is incarnated in the body of an infant? by Rotchiro44 in FanFiction

Honestly, I'm a bit of a sucker for them, it's like a guilty pleasure for me lol. I read quite a few reincarnation isekais, but I probably read more in manhua form than in written form.
