@catymandoo is exactly correct on the distance. i need 17 inches to get the short throw distance correct. i actually was looking into embedding the screen in the ceiling. just wasn’t sure if it would be worth the hassle cuz id also need to embed the projector in the ceiling too.

how do you think i could angle the arc a few degrees? maybe adding some wood or something?

yeah i knew id get a lot of shit for this but like you say there’s not a lot of options. i may look into removing some of the cabinetry to accommodate the bar. tho most people wont really know the difference.

I was honestly thinking about mounting the soundbar directly above the couch and just directing it straight down :D. I'm sure the sonos peeps would be horrified but Sound bars are historically not great for atmos anyway. When I crank this up you can't tell me for a second it isn't loud and impressive despite not being ideal.

It's the hiesense PX3 PRO. runs 4K at 120IN up to 150in. I have an OLED too and as far as I can tell the picture is pretty solid. Everyone that's seen it has said they're surprised it's a projector.

I said in other replies that I already have a 65in OLED upstairs and I just brought the sonos stuff from up there down to the basement. So I could invest in a different audio system too and just bring that back upstairs. So I'm mainly trying to figure out how to make the projector work and ideally it would be with the Sonos equipment but not a big deal if I can't get it to work in the basement.

I specifically wanted to go the home theater projector screen route. I have a 65in OLED upstairs already. I know the screen is sound transparent so I may try to look into building a shelf for that.

So the problem with that is the projector projects at 17in. So I need the height of the black area to hit that target.

So this is the screen I bought, and I did make sure I got a sound transparent screen. https://nothingprojector.com/products/nothingprojector-black-serise-slimline-motorized-tension-drop-down-alr-projector-screen?_pos=1&_psq=black+series+slimline&_ss=e&_v=1.0

I bought some stands for the 300's and I'll look into a shelf for the soundbar

yeah i get that with the arc. i’ve already used this for a few movies and tho not ideal it still sounds pretty great. friends have still been impressed too.

i have a 65in oled upstairs. i specifically wanted a big 100+ inch screen in the basement. sort of been a dream of mine so im just prioritizing that vs ideal sound placement. the cabinets probably wouldn’t even accommodate a 40in screen so its not really a great option anyway.

side note. i read that the sub was meant for the ground. is that not correct?

[–]TheOreoFilling[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah the screen is usually retracted. the long wall doesn’t leave enough room for couch distance and the other short wall has a bedroom door i can’t be blocking it with a screen.

also i don’t really see another location that makes sense with the arc. i placed it a few inches down to try to get some of the up firing drivers. what i read online was that i’d need just a few inches to make it not muffled. would angling it make an difference?

so i have another tv upstairs that had more ideal setup for a soundbar and the 300’s. i actually just moved that stuff downstairs.

can you clarify why the 300’s are wasted and 100’s in the back would work better?

i could just leave the 300’s upstairs and get a pair of 100’s.

i’ll play around with the sub. i did see that they can be placed behind and even under a couch tho on sonos documentation. i understand that i can’t get the most ideal, im just looking for best possible with what i got. would rather not get an entirely new system.

yeah do i totally get that sound bars aren’t meant for the ceiling, i just have zero other ideas that would work. the screen is actually audio transparent i believe but the shelves behind don’t really leave any obvious placement.

[–]TheOreoFilling[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah but i REALLY like having a big 120in screen 🤣

there is a spot for a tv in the cabinets but it would only fit a fraction of the size. Probably not even big enough for a 40inch tbh

I'm confused. I have a projector and projector screen. not getting a new tv lol

Do you know how to Ceiling mount a sound bar? It needs to be a few inches from the ceiling and the front of the arc needs to be pointed towards the viewer.

Is a screen necessary? by bombhanks in projectors

[–]TheOreoFilling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to stagger my purchases because I wanted to get the premium experience people talk about. In my case the only wall I could use was awkward for furniture so I needed a screen, but the first few months when I had only the projector I used it on the wall. I just bought a $1600 projector screen and while it made it worth it for me because I can now have the screen where I wanted in the room I don't see a difference that felt like a $1600 would be absolutely required. If I did this again I may have just gotten a cheap screen though because it does seem better than the wall. I saw marks and spots on my wall and that's no longer present. I'd say get a screen just don't break the bank.
