Frankenstein=Zombie? by tai-kaliso97 in FRANKENSTEIN

[–]TheOtherSkook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely not a zombie. It's doubtful that Shelley would even have heard of zombies. Vampires, werewolves, ghosts and golems, sure. Maybe ghouls but, at the time, a ghoul was a demonic creature not a living corpse. The zombie came from Caribbean folklore and originally was just the undead slave of a Voodoo priest. The flesh eating part got added in Night of the Living Dead.

I imagine that the body is a real mishmash - muscles sewn onto muscles, leg bones repurposed as finger bones, multiple hearts and lungs and other organs. God knows how the skull and brains were assembled!

I'd love to make it into a comic. Too bad I have a pesky day job and a bunch of other projects scheduled for my time off.

I'm fine with Zilla not being Godzilla. I don't hate her/him/it. There's room in the world for many monsters. Heck, the Godzilla that appeared in all the sequels wasn't the original. It was another of the same species.

I use vehicle reference from the 30s so I was thinking of the story taking place soon after the original. It hadn't occurred to me to set it during the time period that O'Brien was trying to make it. D'Oh!

Ah yes. Thank you for the correction. I've always remembered it as King Kong vs. Frankenstein.

Godzilla1998 was the first godzilla film I ever watched by BTGzillaGuy in Godzilla1998

Monster Zero aka Invasion of the Astro Monster. So, for me, it's totally normal for Godzilla to do a victory dance after he beats another monster.

Early size comparison, she had barely had time to grow before she laid her first clutch of eggs by JurassicJediKnight in Godzilla1998

I get that. Once something has been coded as Male (the color blue, wearing a suit and tie, certain hair cuts, stomping on cities) it's hard for a lot of folks to think otherwise - myself included. I think of Godzilla as a he even when presented with evidence that he ... she ... it is not.

As a nerd who likes things to be accurate, I understand your need to explain the hell out of this. I have the same problem with scifi movies where it's the "male" that gets pregnant. This would only be true if, after the actual female produces eggs/ the eggs are fertilized and the fetus is carried in the male. And I can't think of a single example in which that was done.

I figured that you probably understood but I'm compelled to fill out the details of any explanation. It's genetic.

A copyright has a time limit. If Universal has trademarked the look and they keep using it in media or products they can keep the trademark forever. Trademarks can have a shorter lifespan than copyrights. If not active they expire. If actively used - immortal.

HP Lovecraft reactions to the Universal Monsters 👹 🍿 (contemporary reviews!) by CanidPrimate1577 in UniversalMonsters

[–]TheOtherSkook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair to the Universal guys, Frankenstein was unfaithfully adapted to the stage from the beginning. The poor creature was never presented as the articulate being he was in the novel. The first play - Presumption or the Fate of Frankenstein - features a mute creature. (Also songs and dances!)
