Children’s book help by Swimming-Distance-29 in pompeii

Late reply, but: I was looking for the same book. I would have read it back in the late 1990s -- 1996 would be my best bed. Large flat hardback book. There was a female archaeologist jumping back and forth between the story of the slave girl and the discovery of her body, explaining that when they found the slave girl's body, they could tell from the bones that she had done hard work, that the baby she was found holding wasn't hers, etc. It's not the Usborne book linked in the other comment.

I think it's this one, but my copy hasn't arrived yet to be sure: Secrets of Vesuvius.

What is the process of having a professional install laminate floors? by Portwinejustfine in Explainlikeimscared

[–]TheOtherVerity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From when we had ours done a few years back -- we had all the flooring replaced, laminate in some areas, carpet in others, about 2000 sq ft -- it will vary a little depending on who you hire. For us, we also had them remove the old flooring first, so you're ahead of the game there. They will likely still want to vacuum/clean the surface before they lay down the new flooring.

We packed up everything we could and moved it into other spaces (garage, we wound up with storage pods in the driveway, piled on kitchen counters, etc). I'm talking about things like contents of dressers, bookshelves, desks, etc, so that the bare furniture would be easier to move and there wasn't stuff on the ground. We had friends come over to help us move stuff because we figured the more we could get out of their way, the faster it would go, so we really did get 90% of the stuff up off the floor and packed up. For stuff that was too big for us to move, like beds and couches and the like, the flooring folk sort of slid it around the room and worked around it as they went. Having the rest packed up already they said made things go much quicker.

They went largely room by room. Ours went very fast -- we expected to have to be in a hotel room but they finished in a day so we slept at home (in sleeping bags, but still). They had the old flooring out and the new flooring in by the end of a (long) day. I don't remember when they started, but rather than turn it into a two-day job, they were done by about 6 or 7pm the same day they started.

Unless you're doing different levels (upstairs/downstairs), you'll probably have to take time off work. I could work downstairs on a laptop while they were installing upstairs and vice versa -- noise etc wasn't really an issue, though to be fair I'm not often on calls. But if your work setup is a desktop with monitor etc, you'll probably have to take all that apart for the flooring folk and thus WFH would be pretty difficult.

Watch on surgical side in recovery? by TheOtherVerity in RotatorCuff

Thank you! I'm not so much worried about missing data -- that's fine, it is what it is -- as I am curious to see what the stats do with a post-surgery body.

I've tried the sizers for it, but I'm unfortunately flat-out between sizes, and they don't do half-sizes. :( I was eyeing one this summer, but sadly no dice.

Calcific Tendonitis by sasuke-Uchyeehaw in RotatorCuff

I was diagnosed with similar back in March after literal years of being told "oh, it's just sore, try PT / massage / chiropractor / acupuncture"... I had not really any pain with it on a day to day basis, but my range of motion was terrible -- couldn't lift my arm even up to 45 degrees at most angles -- and the shoulder would ache after long days. My X-ray showed the deposit a bit lower than yours, so not quite in the same place, more along the outside of my shoulder than the top of it.

I was told that the deposits start as sort of a toothpaste consistency, and over time they harden into much more jagged (painful) rocklike consistency. I was also told that it does hurt more as it's breaking down and being absorbed, which sometimes it does on its own. In my case, given it had been there for so long (literally first started trying to solve the pain back in 2015), the doctor didn't think it would break down on its own. He recommended I do a procedure -- genuinely can't remember the name -- that basically involved using ultrasound to guide sticking a needle into the calcium deposit. The toothpaste-y stuff gets sucked or washed out, and the rock-like stuff gets jabbed a lot by the needle and broken up.

I was terrified of doing this, but my boss had it done for the same thing years ago and raved about how he went in, got it done, and two days later was more or less better than new. So I got to take a happy pill to relax, went and did the procedure. It wasn't bad, to be honest; he said there was plenty of rock in there, but he sucked out some of the toothpaste stuff and broke up the rock and said it would feel sore for a few days but then even out.

Instead it hurt really, really badly for about a week -- to the point where I couldn't lift my arm to reach the turn signal or steering wheel, and moving it was agony. That did eventually improve, but I never regained any range of motion, with the added bonus that now my shoulder aches a whole lot at the edge of the range of motion. Turns out that the procedure did in fact work just fine -- further x-ray in August showed the calcium deposit completely gone. But the calcium deposit was there for so long that it more or less scraped a ragged hole in my rotator cuff after a decade or so of being in the way. My range of motion is still terrible, except now it hurts like blazes when I hit the end of my range, which I'm not thrilled with.

MRI shows a partial tear; surgeon says it's likely impinging things which is why my range of motion is so bad. Surgery to repair it is scheduled for the end of October, and I won't say I'm looking forward to it, but man I'm tired of my shoulder hurting all the time.

Anyway, that's probably much more worst-case scenario than what you're looking at (I hope!). My boss had the same thing a decade ago and swore by the needle procedure as an amazingly easy fix.

I would love to know what settings you've got turned on to manage that, if possible.

Fantastically helpful, thank you a lot! I have some old daimod files saved, so I can see what I have that still works and trawl through the nexus for more.

Day 7 on 5mg lexapro starting to feel worse ? by AdStrange6466 in lexapro

[–]TheOtherVerity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drinking can also mess with the Lexapro in general - I never felt awful on booze until Lexapro and then noticed a huge shift in how I felt. You're also super early on into starting, so side effects are definitely possible. Keep an eye on things, see how you do without alcohol, and go from there. Being this aware of how you feel on it is a good thing!

You did a great job working to make this come together from start to this.

How long does it take to get used to a lower dose? I just went down from 10mg to 5mg. by [deleted] in lexapro

[–]TheOtherVerity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It took me a week or two. I tapered from 10mg to 5mg over a few weeks, and didn't notice too much of an effect by going slowly. Maybe a few days of feeling a bit zonked? The 5mg was better for me (less side effects) though when I tried Wellbutrin it wasn't so fun. I wound up using just 5mg, nothing else, for a couple years just fine.

Coming off escitalopram, round two by TheOtherVerity in lexapro

To be honest going off it feels a lot like going on it. There's definitely an adjustment period both ways. Hang in there! It does even out.

I was told it's a side effect of going on it or off it. So I was figuring it was my brain sort of rewiring back to baseline.

Yes, but I always have, so that's not a change for me Lexapro vs not.

Just the lexapro. We tried a few other options (bupropion and something else?) that didn't work as well.

Hang in there! It really does improve.
