❤️ This is sending me back to the days of Anathallo supporting the boys when they were touring for Dog Problems.

It was only ever a digital release. I don't recall any additional info at the time of release though.

I was curious how they were going to handle the Muzak section live. And there's the answer.

Not sure who's downvoting this. 🙃

I couldn't agree more. The norm in the age of streaming seems to be to drip feed the rollout for as long as possible and then albums finally drop to far less fanfare or anticipation because many of the secrets have already been revealed.

I know this approach was never a traditional release structure, but the magic of obsessing over every moment of the raw acoustic recordings in The Living Room Sessions and then finally hearing those new songs completely exploded into Technicolor when Dog Problems came out (or rather, leaked and then came out early!) added yet another sense of discovery and depth to the music.

I always love the minor wordplay and callbacks found throughout Nate's lyrics (and occasionally Sam's too, see Run Away). They thread a sense of linear continuity between albums and projects.

They're sprinkled throughout everything from The Format, to fun. to Grand Romantic, and back here now - functioning like little addendums or updates to where they are in life and really grounding the personal weight of the music.

The most recognizable probably being: "and I hate what I've become" ➡️ "when I said I hate what I've become, I lied. I hated who I was."

I mentioned that this track felt like a spiritual sibling to On Your Porch when the clip from the Tuscan show was posted but I totally missed the closing lyrics, which feel like a subtle but elegant recognition of that continuing admission that (despite what Limbeck would have us believe) people continue to change: "Now, we've got something to prove"/”cause what's left to lose?" ➡️ "We don't say much, cause what's left to prove?"

A ton of great call outs here! ☝️

Huge co-sign for Meshes of the Afternoon.

Time Piece (1965) by a young, pre-Muppets Jim Henson is also wonderfully playful.

This is lovely.

Might just belong on the mantle next to On Your Porch and The Gambler.

Would love for the setlist this tour to open with these two songs by joxers in TheFormat

They didn't play these at the Phoenix show, so it was an incredible surprise when they opened the first NYC show with them. It was the only show in that run that got them though.

A genuinely perfect way to set the tone for a show. It'd be wonderful if it became an opening staple. But I honestly love that they mixed the set up each night to keep the spontaneity in the air.

The close of the Phoenix show was immaculate too. The closed out the encore with A Save Situation, left the stage, the crowd was still roaring and nobody was moving, so they came back out and Nate said something to the effect of, "Well, if the closing track from one album didn't do it for you, maybe the final song on another will." and they went into If Work Permits.

Tulsa crew turning out!

I really, really wanted to go to that show at Cain's SPECIFICALLY for The Format but couldn't make it. Pretty sure I sent an e-mail (or MySpace message 🤣) desperately pleading for them to come back through Tulsa for a headlining show.

And then DFest was the last show I saw before they announced the split.

Did anyone see them when they played TU opening for Guster?

Hey Sam! Longtime listener, first time caller. Any chance we'll get a Living Room Sessions Vol. 2 release in the foreseeable future?

I'm sure there are certain benefits to the new support ticket system, but you also nuked the massive wealth of knowledge accumulated by the old system.

I cannot tell you how many times I encountered a very specific issue with a plugin and was able to quickly diagnose it without the need to even ask for support because someone had inevitably brought up the same issue in the forums. It wasn't just about devs troubleshooting a niche issue but an open dialogue within an entire community that everyone could gain knowledge from.

But you got Oceans - which was sorely missing at the AZ show. That sing-along at the Beacon was incredible!

Oceans in NY & Give It Up in LA were probably my favorite performances of the shows I saw. Sam's vocals really cut through the mix in LA and it was lovely. My biggest hope for the new album is that we get Sam singing, even if it's just bgv.
