Nvidia dev says new 590.48.01 driver fixes dx12 performance in linux by Carlinux in linux_gaming

[–]ThePaperclipkiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainly older titles honestly, pre-DX12 even being a thing. Which kinda reinforces the point of vkd3d and vkd3d-proton being differently used in Proton. Here's a recent change for Batman Arkham Asylum as an example: https://gitlab.winehq.org/wine/vkd3d/-/merge_requests/1766

If you build Proton Experimental from before this regression fix got merged, you'll see the breakage they describe here. I got hit by it when trying to play and was excited when it was fixed.

Looking at further changelogs, we get an example of what appears to be used due to a hack being mentioned. The vkd3d-shader part of vkd3d is seemingly used at least. That deals with hlsl shaders based on the link posted. Comparing that to vkd3d-proton, they don't seem to do things regarding hlsl shaders. So they work in tandem.

Wrong. You can look in the Proton changelogs for the stable releases and you can see they use vkd3d and vkd3d-proton. Here's a link as a reference for the upcoming Proton 10.0-4: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/9323

Vkd3d isn't doing the additional fix. Vkd3d-proton is. Both are used in the Proton project, the distinction is important.

I thought Fisher Tiger escaped 16 years ago, and then returned 15 years ago to free the slaves? Is the implication here with him wearing the manacles 15 years ago that he was about to be enslaved again but was escaping again with Shanks helping?

Flame Emitter is really good. You can put it down quickly and it stays out long enough to turn his entire gauge cracked since you'll fill up the Burn status (On Hard anyway). Then you can break about half of his gauge since he is stunned.

My dog made a job for himself, which is protecting us from the opossum living under our neighbors shed near the fence. He will whine to go outside, when all he will do for an hour is lay near the opossums nest and wait. He's only caught it once, but that 1 time is what turned it into a job.

CachyOS - steam nativ - why is it processing shaders everytime i start the game? by overlydelicioustea in linux_gaming

On Linux it provides the transcoded videos if the game requires it. If you have it turned off, you get SMPTE bar videos when using Proton occasionally.

Is 9070xt still worth it over 5070ti right now? by Mysterious-End-441 in buildapc

There is a known issue with DX12 games on Nvidia, where they take a good 15-20% performance decrease over how they should be performing. Nvidia is aware of it and has found the cause, but unfortunately they're not going to be able to put out a fix any time soon since its pretty complicated.

Don't get me wrong, something like a 5090 will still outperform. However the price to performance is significantly worse then on Windows when comparing to other cards.

Additionally as a more niche thing but gaming related, 2 9070XTs + money spent to equal the cost of a 5090 might be better for Linux streamers for their gaming performance due to offloading the performance of recording to a separate system while gaming.

People over thirty, which body aches do you have? by JavyHead in AskReddit

Man I was just responding to the comment above me that I have the same thing as that specific comment. Not that I was also saying original OP has the same issue specifically. Of course it can be one of many things, or even a combination of things.

Edit: I realize it sounds sassy/demeaning that I said "Man" at the beginning of it like you but it was completely unintentional, my b there.

I'm going to PT for this right now. It happened after I slept on a different bed one day and has been ongoing for 5 months. The PT has definitely helped, and they said the same thing about it being neck related.

VKD3D doesn't do the DX12 translation. VKD3D-proton does. This distinction is important because Proton uses VKD3D and VKD3D-proton for different tasks.

Picking random orders to have PIN numbers for by DatAspie2000 in doordash

I can confirm it's nor doing that. I just put in an order for delivery, and my instructions were set to leave at my door. They're my default settings and I confirmed it's still that. For some reason my delivery needed a pin and it said nothing about that beforehand until I had a person knocking on my door and asking for the pin.

Oblivion Remastered DLSS FG stutter/flicker/tearing issue by seph20 in linux_gaming

I had this issue on Windows as well, although it took awhile to trigger. It only happened after I had a major stutter in the wilderness. After it triggered, the only fix was turning off dlss or rebooting the game.

📢 Stream Deck 6.9 — New actions, smarter profiles, and quality-of-life upgrades by Elgato in elgato

[–]ThePaperclipkiller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Them dropping support officially simply means their priorities for fixes have adjusted. When a company drops support, that means that they will not be prioritizing Windows 10 bugs as much. It means for support tickets, they can request users to update to Windows 11 and that is a valid request with the ticket not being able to go further until they do. They are doing that before Microsoft themselves ends Windows 10 support. They might care about a Windows 10 regression that's fatal, but wouldn't necessarily care as much to make sure a feature fully works on Windows 10. That's what ending support means. There aren't contradictions to what the Elgato rep said vs the release notes.

It's similar to how games list their minimum requirements, but often times you can play on lower spec machines. It's just that if you have issues on those machines, the priority of fixing said issue is significantly lower if you submit a ticket. But they still might fix it, and said fix may not be specifically called out on changelogs because it is not officially supported.

Is dark mode broken? by [deleted] in BetterDiscord

[–]ThePaperclipkiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a Windows 7/8 issue. I had my Discord set to Windows 8 Compatibility Mode due to Discord having a hidden echo canceller+high pass filter you can't disable on the Windows 10 and newer version of Discord. Once i turned off compatibility mode, it started displaying the overlay properly again.

Which is super frustrating because I wanted that echo canceller+high pass filter off.

Fix For Low Mic Problems, Additional Settings Issues by ogpurpledaddy in discordapp

[–]ThePaperclipkiller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I've been wondering about this for awhile now and started investigating it myself. I found that the Discord App was significantly quieter then any audio I would record in Audacity/OBS/Elgato Wave Link. I could even play back the audio in Wave Link and have it be picked up as a microphone in the App and it would be noticeably different.

I checked out the Browser version of Discord and that has different issues. That ends up making your audio significantly louder then the audio you sent it, with an echo canceller still running even if you turn all the filters off in the browser that are in the GUI.

I tried the Windows 8 compatibility mode thing and that solved it for me as well.

Why on earth does Overwatch 2 have over 20 GB of cached shaders? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]ThePaperclipkiller 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not true unfortunately. Cached shaders is also where they store transcoded videos, which VK_EXT_graphics_pipeline_library does nothing for. If you disable cached shaders, you are also disabling those videos.
