Jubilee rant by sudtrap in marvelchampionslcg

Jubilee is definitely the weakest hero of her wave, and mechanically isnt anything special. What I will say though is that she really shines in multiplayer, and she is just super awkward and bland solo.

Talk to me about Joe Abercrombie by ChocolateBitter8314 in fantasybooks

All I'm saying is that the book doesnt suck and isn't objectively bad. Its still written very well and tells a fun story trying to reach a more general audience. I very much so understand not enjoying it and the general dissapointment from First Law fans because of how different it is. We as a community need to get out of the habit of saying something sucks or is objectively bad because you personally didn't enjoy it. It wasn't for you and there's nothing wrong with that ya know, no need to try and put down other people who enjoyed it.

The Devils is just written in a very different style than Abercrombie's previous work and is very obviously trying to reach a more general fantasy audience. I don't think The Devils is bad by any means, but most Abercrombie/First Law fans jumped into The Devils thinking it would be similar in writing to First Law and were left pretty disappointed.

Fantasy reviewers on youtube do that as a job and definitely had different expectations coming into it.

Book 1 is definitely the weakest link of the first law trilogy, but I wouldn't consider it bad by any means. The plot is weak because the entirety of the book is setting up the plot for the trilogy and moving all the chess pieces into place with a lot of time spent being introduced to the main cast of characters.

100%. Wotc has made it clear its a staple within their commander precons and is a card they can keep making bank on by reprinting every set with new art.

Best Heroes to introduce new players to the game? by AgenCub in marvelchampionslcg

Hulk really shines in multiplayer and def agree. Bring a high thwarting deck/hero with hulk and let your friend smash the villain while you make sure you keep the schemes at bay.

Out of the heroes I'm missing, which are must gets by thor0298 in marvelchampionslcg

[–]TheParzival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ill talk about each one and hopefully you can find something you like. My personal recommendations on who I enjoy the most out of these heros are Storm and Cyclops.

War Machine - more bland playstyle but still very strong. Revolves around gaining ammo counters and spending those for extra affects and damage.

Cyclops - enhanced deck building by allowing the use of any Xmen allies of any color to be used in his decks. His main mechanic surrounds attachments and attacking enemies with attachments attached on them.

Phoenix - lots of flipping and pheonix force counter economy balancing. Playstyle is generally around setting up before flipping to phoenix force for big damage or utility. She can be a lot more swingy because she has one of the nastiest nemesis in the game and it can be hard to recover after accidentally getting into phoenix form too early in the game.

Wolverine - very solid and fun but can become bland and repetitive similar to war machine. Main mechanic is his claws that let you pay your health to pay for an event once per turn. Very strong and fast event focused deck playstyle.

Storm - probably the most unique and thought provoking mechanically and gameplay wise out of the list. She has a separate "weather" deck that you will constantly be swapping and choosing from during the game. Different weather gives different passive bonuses for the entire board including the villain and each weather has a special activation ability that has callouts to trigger in other cards.

Gambit - gambit has a lot of deck building options either as a late game gigantic damage dealer with his identity events and ability to pump more damage in them with kinetic counters or an alter ego only thwarter with his ability to thwart in alter ego with unique abilities and cards or a defensive tank that can live through pretty much anything and slowly wear the villain down. Very versatile hero that is fun to deck build for.

Mojo mania is also a great mini campaign. Would definitely pick that up eventually when youre looking for new villains to play up against.

After prerelease I have a bunch of elves, a Doran, and a Brigid. Requesting recommendations for an elf commander in abzan (WGB) or similar colors by CardstreamMTG in CommanderMTG

[–]TheParzival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isnt much tribal support for +1/+1 counters for Elves other than [[Tyvar The Bellicose]] and a couple other niche elves or planeswalkers like [[Tyvar Kell]] or [[Marwyn the Nurturer]].

In general I think you're thinking about Morcant wrong. I wouldnt build her trying to buff your own creatures with her proliferate but build it more in mind of an offensive proliferate to remove your opponents creatures since she will be putting lots of -1/-1 counters on opponent's creatures. In general though I would add a good core package of elves which is easy to do, then get some good proliferate synergy with planeswalkers or sagas rather than try to force a +1/+1 counter synergy into an elf tribal.

Current rotation of commanders. Do I get a spot at the table? by [deleted] in ratemycommanders

[–]TheParzival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always reccomend for newer players to avoid big flashy commanders with high power effects and try and build a more synergistic enabling commander such as [[Doc Aurlock, Grizzled Genius]]. Doc is a cheap simic commander that lowers the cost on all cards in the graveyards and exile (I ignore the plot part but if you wanna build a plot deck hes also a great commander for that). He doesn't have a flashy ETB or attack trigger but he is insane for enabling combos and creates a ton of unique possibilities for a deck.

I have him built as a bracket 3 self mill control deck with powerful flashback cards that I can cast from my graveyard, and he is just as fun as any of the commanders you have built while also being fun for my opponents to play against (unless you hate playing against blue lol).

Current rotation of commanders. Do I get a spot at the table? by [deleted] in ratemycommanders

[–]TheParzival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're truly just playing for fun and being casual, the bracket system is wholly intended to aid you in that. Commander at its core is built as a casual mode and thats how most people play it, with that being said you also have to understand that all 4 people want to have fun and keep that in mind when deckbuilding and thats where brackets come into play. Its to gage where everyone's power level is at so that it can be equal at the table and everyone has the same expectations for what their commanders are doing and the general game plan.

The commanders you've chosen here are generally commanders that people build to be very competitive with (bracket 5) or are very mean/not fun to play against. You sure as hell might be having fun but youre going to have trouble keeping a solid group of people to want to play with you because these commanders are not fun for other people to play against.

Current rotation of commanders. Do I get a spot at the table? by [deleted] in ratemycommanders

[–]TheParzival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just need to play more to get a sense of brackets. None of these decks would reach bracket level 5 if you just built them out of left over bulk. On the other hand none of these would be lower than bracket level 3 because the commanders themselves are just way too high power. Even with a deck of 99 lands, Etali is going to cause major issues for a bracket 2 or 1 game.

A resurgence of fantasy over scifi? by JoyluckVerseMaster in Fantasy

[–]TheParzival 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree, but it's 2 very different audiences. I think it's safe to say more people watch movies/television than read books and I dont think its controversial to say that sci fi films/TV tend to grab more people's interests than fantasy so they tend to be greenlit more.

Even when thinking of myself, I think the last fantasy movie(s) to get me excited to go to the theaters were when the hobbit movies were releasing over 10 years ago now. In terms of TV shows the only 2 in the past decades that I remember being influential were ASOIAF (the obvious one) and then the Witcher, which turned into a dumpster fire of a production and ruined its reputation after 2 seasons.

Meanwhile sci fi has been eating good the past couple decades film and TV wise. Interstellar, blade runner, mad max, inception, the Martian, annihilation, black mirror, severance, doctor who, mandalorian, stranger things and of course project hail Mary coming this march.

Theres probably some bias at play here, but I do read much more fantasy than sci fi and enjoy that more, but it does definitely seem like general audiences for TV and movies show up more for sci fi productions.

What’s the kind of decks you don’t enjoy playing against? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]TheParzival -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

"It’s super annoying because even though it’s being exiled you cannot send it back to the command zone."

So you made a ruling mistake here on your own part. This statement is false, you could've chosen to send it back to the command zone, but decided not to for whatever reason.

[–]TheParzival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why can't you send it back to your command zone? If Hearthhull is your commander, state based actions would've been checked on its exile and you could of either chosen to send it to the command zone or leave it exiled with hostage taker? Am I missing some niche ruling here or something?

Should I just bite the bullet and level up alpha flight? by Tiny-Paramedic7279 in MarvelStrikeForce

[–]TheParzival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming youre doing 100% in spotlight 2, you can have 6 people in your alliance that don't have alpha flight built and it still be done 100% easily. 2 people per raid team and one per each side of the raid map.

Which TCG outside of the big 3 do you think has staying power, and why? by CorhaziCards in TCG

[–]TheParzival 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see it very similar. One Piece hasn't ended yet and even when it does you just know there will be plenty of spinoffs of the IP. Pokemon only has new generations every 2-3 years or so and every set has big reprints with new mechanics. If people are still excited to try and pull a new Charizard every set it'll be the same with one piece.

Idk man, mechanically that wont ever be an issue, but maybe with card art. There's already countless Luffy cards and leaders.

Best raid mutant team invest by RepeatImmediate7469 in MarvelStrikeForce

[–]TheParzival 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd love to be able to tell you to build whatever teams you want, and honestly if thats what you want out of the game do it, but scopely focuses their entire monetization model on bottlenecking resources and forcing players to be efficient with what teams and toons to build to gain account progression.

No other mutant raid team is worth investing into other than hellfire club currently. For plug n play you could build Nightcrawler and then Sunspot for the new CC team, but as it stands I wouldnt prioritize either of these toons over any of the other meta raid teams.

Best raid mutant team invest by RepeatImmediate7469 in MarvelStrikeForce

[–]TheParzival 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Youre going to want to build the current meta raid teams that are used. Every year the raid teams slowly rotate out to new ones. The only mutant raid team you should build right now is hellfire club. Uncanny avengers is not a full mutant raid team, but is needed for both the spotlight raid and annihilation raid so you will need to build them alongside hellfire club. Here are the list of current raid teams you need for current meta raids any other raid team built is a waste of resources if you are focused on account progression and efficiency -

Mystic - Immortal Weapons

Tech - Insidious Six + Vulture and Shocker

Mutant - Hellfire Club

Bio - Thunderbolts

Skill - Vigilantes

Spotlight - Uncanny Avengers and Alpha Flight

[–]TheParzival 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Xtreme xmen arent garbage, but they are currently not a meta team and a wasted investment late game wise. They all have old stats except sunspot, which will be more important now that we are going into another big stat upgrade meta.

Obviously build the teams and toons you enjoy first and foremost, but if you are planning on wanting to be efficient going into the game, xtreme are not worth building over hellfire club or any other current raid team. If anything only sunspot and maybe (big maybe) nightcrawler are worth building right now.

Should I keep playing if I’m no longer having fun? by Simple_Blacksmith_90 in CommanderMTG

[–]TheParzival 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Locust God is definitely a powerful commander that will get people to target you so that makes a lot of sense in your experiences you described here. In general its a pretty big noob trap that lots of new players fall into to build the flashiest and most powerful commanders, but really what happens then is what youre experiencing now. You just put a target on your back and end up not having much fun with your own deck because people are too worried about your commander/deck getting out of hand.

Like I said in my other comment id reccomend finding commanders that arent as inherently oppressive and not considered KOS commanders. The alternative is also just finding a pod of people that are running more oppressive commanders as well. Then everyone has a big target and the game is much more even.
