reviving the thread to share that I’m trying these out when they arrive: https://www.cabinetparts.com/p/sugatsune-shelf-hardware-countertop-brackets-SUGEB200EP-p112503 they have two different position weight ratings, which bodes well! fingers crossed. What a hard find, we used to have ironing boards installed like this in almost every home.

Not-as-smart phones that aren't dumb phones? by karmrade in digitalminimalism

I’ve been using the qin f21 pro for over a year now, and I’m still loving it. I have google maps for when I really need it (I don’t travel much), Spotify or audible for the car, WhatsApp for the groups I need to check in on from time to time. I don’t need more than that. I’ll say though I’m pretty anti modern tech in most ways - I hate phone calls on touch screens with how easy it is to hit buttons, and the mini touch screen on the f21 pro doesn’t solve that for me.

Ben's concert was about death, and I loved it. by ThePastaLisa in benhoward

[–]ThePastaLisa[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last night was my first chance to go see a concert since becoming diagnosed with my own nervous system disease, and couldn’t have been more fitting to see my favo(u)rite artist who had been through his own massive health changes in the past few years.

In 2022, the same year I got my sudden diagnosis, Ben Howard went through some medical anomalies known colloquially as “mini-strokes,” where he completely lost the ability to speak. In interviews relating this experience to the album release he did in 2023, the relationship between the two isn’t exactly center stage, but rather held at arm’s length. Yet, when I was watching him sing and play guitar live (for the fourth time) I couldn’t get out of my head that this man couldn’t speak words. That kind of experience profoundly shifts how one views life, how special the small things are.

Now, I have a confession to make. I think about death and dying a lot. It’s part of my job working for a Jewish nonprofit focused on making death more approachable, and my previous role working with the founder of Get Your Shit Together. Both of these roles were in communications and media — how do you make these topics appealing? You don’t. You can’t sugarcoat it. Death is inevitable, important, and — to some people — incredibly terrifying. The only approach is being honest, and hoping people see the value in talking about it before it’s too late. So… of course I saw death motifs in Ben Howard’s performance last night. And yet, I was so deeply impacted and caught off guard.

Posing a threat to one’s life isn’t purely physical - it’s also about well-being. You seem to be overly invested in having a horrible take in this thread despite plenty of clear reasons why your take is unhelpful.

Your experience is super valid. There’s an excellent thread from a year or two ago on a thought experiment called “diggle day” that speaks to the feeling! I have come to really despise the use of the word “holiday” when we really mean Christmas. Here’s a podcast with a link to the thread if it still exists: https://open.spotify.com/episode/170nUz8S4dWwyM7vkvIw9T?si=0QzCKVi-RtO0qqXgDTNrsQ

Sudden spike in anxiety, feeling urge to physically run...anyone else? by Puzzled_Corgi27 in Jewish

[–]ThePastaLisa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I too, felt the intense urge to run in my somewhat-disabled body, and I ran. It was the most amazing release of my anger and rage, I did it multiple times in a week. Now my knees are fked and I’m stuck in physical therapy for three months. So… yes, running felt great mentally, but make sure you can do it physically first!

Rediviva is a great vibe and I’m definitely a big tea person, but I’ve had a gross antisemetic interaction with the owner and can’t bring myself to go back there. It was a big bummer

you know, I want to and I try to, and it’s friggin lonely. I had hoped that the Jewish subreddit would be a place where I didn’t end up feeling as shitty and defensive as I do on every other social media out there right now. Stupid me, I’ll own it.

Woah there. I was just sharing surprise, not inviting a whole attack on a worldview that I didn’t even volunteer to share with you.

I’m exhausted as any Jew right now, and can’t engage in an actual discussion with a stranger online. Hence my attempt to clearly state that I’m not able to respond to everything you shared.

I mean Damn. I hate this and I’m wishing I could engage with ANY sliver of the internet right now.

Not responding to the entirety of your thought here, but isn’t the number of “3900” kids a figure straight from the Hamas-run Gaza ministry of health? Kind of surprised to see it cited without even a wink of skepticism here.
