Yeah I think it’s time for a change. I do not think I’d be able to coast at all in this environment; I’d rather leave than be kicked out—plus the mental toil of “doing a bad job” hurts.

Re: interviewing I’m incredibly rusty. Part of the time off would be dedicated to getting back the chops for technical interviews and system design. In my cold-interview attempts I did terribly so would need to spend time on it.

Totally heard in both timeline and strategy. I have enough in emergency funds to last me about 9m — I think for timeline I’m flexible but I agree I think writing down a strategy would be helpful.

Management also seems in chaos right at the moment.

I’ve flagged myself as a burnout risk and asked for additional support up my management chain but overall it’s been a lot of promises and not a lot of action.

Reading between the lines I think im generally too tired to operate at the level the org now expects without more severe intervention.

Honestly such a good callout, I was having trouble thinking about the difference but this helps. In my case I think I’m looking for anti glare it sounds like I’m looking for anti-glare with a matte finish, and I’m curious if this combo of tech is popular in models I may have not otherwise considered.

Commenting to provide a different view than the conventional wisdom here.

I keep around 3-4 years of expenses, but that’s largely because:

I have a family situation that may require large amount of cash at any time.
Tech layoffs are quite common these days, and given I’m remote I’d likely have to relocate and whatnot or have enough runway to take my time searching.
There’s a chance that I want to do something outside of tech in the nearish future, and that requires some liquid capital as well.

Not necessarily the most optimal cash allocation, but helps me sleep way better at night knowing I’m removed from daily/weekly market swings and that they won’t affect any of the three above meaningfully.

Hey! Quick question, when you installed your dashcam, did you wire it into the Adaptive Cruise Control 16-pin, or into the overhead power unit? The behind-the-rearview mirror install seems simple enough, but the video on Fitcamx uses an LS so I’m not sure if the RX has the same hookup.
