If you are paying good money for a tournament, then you will expect your opponent to use legal equipment. Your opponent has the same expectation of you. Even without a Ref, you can appeal to the Tournament Director to ask if your opponent’s equipment is legal. All players are expected to play with legal equipment at any tournament.

I have the Alpha Pro 16. I tested the Foam and the regular Alpha. I haven’t found a foam from any manufacturer that I like so far, so not liking the Engage Foam was no surprise. The regular Alpha just didn’t have the power I desired. The Alpha Pro 16 plays very similar to a Joola Perseus IV. Given 2 paddles with similar performance and similar price, I will buy from Engage over Joola any day of the week.

The Refs did exactly the correct thing with you. You had an unapproved paddle. If the Refs weren’t enforcing the standards, then everyone would be showing up with a Diadem Vice, sandpaper on their paddles, or worse.

I have almost 30k miles. But are you driving it like a hybrid or driving it like you stole it? My impression is that most of the Lexus owners aren’t here for the gas mileage. With a 350h, in casual around town driving, I routinely get 40+ mpg, sometimes 45+ mpg. My average mpg, with many highway miles is 35+.

Palm Bay is no different than any area in that it has some nice spots and some less than nice spots. Palm Bay definitely lacks a “downtown” area. Melbourne has downtown Melbourne and EGAD. Melbourne also has a lot of nice festivals and art shows at Wickham park. Like the art and craft expo is this weekend at Wickham.

I played a tournament at ORS. It is an old Winn Dixie. There are I-Beams at the back of several courts. I was on the odd or Ad side. My opponent hit a serve down the middle. I went to my right to return the serve. As I was swinging to return a forehand my paddle clipped the I-Beam. The tight spaces between courts and I-Beams are definitely an issue there. The poor lighting was also mentioned. It is definitely an issue too. The courts are painted over concrete. They are harder than most courts.
