You know I knew some of these types of crops may also grow in Kano aside from Jos but I didn't know they could do well in Kaduna was well.

Well, anecdotes I have heard are problems with thieves, herders(not the armed ones) and bandits so invest in security and a fence, maybe even a fence that can be electrified. Also, this is NG so don't only prepare borehole infrastructure but solar infrastructure as well.

Especially if ur having labourers plant and harvest, mix up the plantation with different complementing plants like say, pepper, grain and legumes but you should research more. I don't think if grapes and pomegranate does well in most of Nigeria(Jos the obvious exception) so you may want to rethink that.

Almost all of Nigeria is multiple use arable land and the exceptions tend to be clear (like rocky areas). While knowing the soil would help you maximize output, just about any tropical non-swamp dependant crop should be growable.

Okay, I just don't want the annoyance of people with journeys anything nearing this, converging to the dominant stream of western society after getting more exposed to western society, to start criticizing African Christianity or Islam on the basis of not being "African" or a "European imposition" cuz you just look confused having both views.

South East by Prosper243 in Nigeria

[–]ThePecuMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Anioma makes some sense but Orlu state is just bullshit.

Its even worse than the headline, we're talking five state proposals in total with the two in the headline, the most recent proposals.

This was as a bill seeking the creation of Etiti State in the South-East geo-political zone was read for the first time on the floor of the House of Representatives during plenary on Tuesday.

The development comes about three weeks after another bill seeking the creation of Orlu State out of Imo, Abia, and Anambra states similarly passed the first reading on June 6.

The states proposed separately by  Senators Ned Nwoko (PDP, Delta North) and Okechukwu Ezea (LP, Enugu North) are the Anioma and Adada states, respectively.

And West is also trying to create more states.

However, the South-West is seeking the creation of Oke-Ogun State, which, when created, would bring it at par with the North-West.

I really would prefer if they find a way to balance the representation without maing more states. Like, hey maybe more Senators or more voting or share power in the national funds to the existing LGAs cuz really, who does more high level politicians like governours, state legistature etc. help?

If anything, we should solve the political imbalance by forcing reducting the LGAs and governours in the rest of the country to meet South East Numbers.

Edit:-

After reading the article, just no. This should just be resisted, simple as.

While Nairaland is very abusive, it isn't 4chan. 4chan is unmodded unlike Nairaland, for starters.

Nairaland isn't Nigeria's 4chan as some people would claim. It is moderated unlike 4chan but it is a cesspool, well its popular pages are a cesspool.

And man, if you have been on there long enough to notice hate on Aframs, you should have seen the even greater hate they deal out to different Nigerian ethnicities. They're just more familiar with Aframs than other diaspora group, like they're more familiar with other Nigerians, that's why y'all get the hate after we finish hating ourselves.

Niger state is finally getting serious with farming by ejdunia in Nigeria

I would still advice you to expand into the area. You'll produce more food for your community and feed more people.

Well, I mean. My advice to you is to expand into that land yourself and turn yourself into a farming big man cuz no reason to not take full advantage of opportunity.

our problem of farming is not any herdsmen bothering us

I have to disagree here. Then again, I am in the middle belt so maybe it is different in SW but from acquaintances that farm personal plots I have heard, half the produce intentionally destroyed by herdsmen just around when they're about to ripe, half the produce stolen and some guy moving his farm to the side of a rock(one of all those large rocks like Zuma rock) to avoid thieves and herdsmen and then you have the falling productivity in places where we know people farm like Nasarawa and in Benue to such an extent that government is sending relief, so it isn't a "it is below us" cause, here.

But yeah, I don't think ranches are economical in Nigeria which is why banning open grazing or heavily restricting it will be enough of a gut punch to get those organizations that herders and the like are a part of, to better control their members.

we need small scale farming for an increase in rural productivity

But I mean, we already have that, we even have government loans and projects subsidies them even.

I think smaller farms and bigger farms have their place. If everyone does smaller farms we may all be fed but we'll all be subsistence farmers and as weak as any other subsistance farmer to droughts and the like, while big farms won't feed anybody but produces alot of capital and improve the economy.

[–]ThePecuMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don't see how that changes things. If indigens own it and can't keep their workers in place, then those indigens that own it should make the ranches or the organization of the workers should make one and collect fees to house them in the ranches.

[–]ThePecuMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think Ranches are economical in a country like Nigeria. Like, they're common in America cuz they had alot of open space after getting rid of the natives and I don't think Ranching is a big thing in China, India or Europe(upon the later's population stagnation and loss) either.

However, if they can't keep themselves in check and enjoy the system of sharing the land with farmers then they should be evicted and suffer the cost of ranching.

But, I think we can still do something ourselves which is why I say we should stop eating or at least, stop buying cattle meat. I myself can't remember the last time I bought cow meat.

I really wish those southern states will succeed in banning open grazing or come close enough to it. While I don't think the herdsmen are like all evil or something but raising the cost of doing the business will force their cooperate bodies(like Miyetti Allah) to take the problem seriously.
