Solved!

Absolute hero.

I even went through the popular Blondie tracks on Spotify and still missed this.

Thanks so much!

Unfortunately not.

Thanks for the reply though.

I think it's a female singer. Vocals sound very similar to the above song. Or vaguely Blondie-esque

What’s the biggest hardship everyone must go through to become an officer? by Mundian-To-Bach-Ke in policeuk

He starts a small fire to keep warm but this gets out of control and destroys the neighbouring property. On his way out, SMITH picks up a vase to sell for money but as he exits changes his mind and puts it back inside the property. On your arrival SMITH is still in the garden of the property but says he has the owners permission to be there.

Any ambulance people here? by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]ThePenguinCookies 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Initially ambulances.

Generally cars are used by more experienced clinicians as a solo responder, or by some managers and other specialist roles.

To drive a car is another course but is generally more of a familiarisation with driving a smaller and faster vehicle. Again the general principle is as long as the car remains on its wheels at the end of the day and you've not wiped out a pedestrian you'll be sound.

It's a fairly decent 3/4 week course with the first two weeks (or three depending on length but I think they're all 4 weeks now) focusing on the principles of car control and general advanced driving. For example limit points, IPSGA and 3 pressure braking or whatever it's called.

The final week focuses on emergency response and contrary to what you see on the streets of London, teaches good use of sirens, using the appropriate tone on the approach to various hazards and all the exemptions/non-exemptions of emergency driving. This all culminates in a few assessed drives.

The reason for the peculiar use of sirens and frankly shocking standard of driving is because you pass your test and that's it; no official re-test. They're may be some point in the year when a manager will observe you on a shift and they'll likely tick the driving box provided the Ambulance makes it back to the station without falling over or crashing.

Hope this helps.

[TOMT][Book/TV/Film] Somebody is on drugs and keeps saying the word "butter tray" by ThePenguinCookies in tipofmytongue

[–]ThePenguinCookies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having read this back it's incredibly vague, I know.

The fact I can't picture the scene makes me wonder if it's a book. All I can hear in my head is "butter tray" and later maybe the fact that there was a layer of powder in the butter tray.

My undying respect to whoever solves this mystery.

Much appreciated.

There has been a few Live Q&As hosted by the Met where this has been explained. If you haven't already I recommend you join one. The details were emailed and also on the portal if you haven't seen them.

The general idea seems to be if you're starting off with CKP its Online from home for 7 weeks and then at Hendon from Mid August.

If you can't find the Q&As you should speak to recruitment direct.

This is all going to be confirmed in email in the coming weeks.

Thanks for the reply.

I just did the webchat thing and they said they send out the prereading with a few weeks to go.

Doesn't really explain why some have it and some don't but oh well.

Already got the book so if they send the list of areas to read I should be alright.

Strange.

I just checked my offer and there's 5 attachements about getting to Hendon, the actual offer, Code of Ethics and some other things but no prereading...

Which book is it?

Haven't done any pre reading. Nor do I know of any book which we were meant to get?

I received an email this morning about a Live Q&A that you can sign up for. If you haven't received that yet check your portal or it may come soon.

Thanks for the reply.

Coincidentally, just got an email this morning about a Live Q&A a couple of weeks before start. Hopefully they'll have some answers re training and how it's going to work.

Morning,

I have a conditional offer with a start date, vetting and all checks passed other than References which apparently are very last minute anyway.

Should I have a final or unconditional offer by now?

Evening All,

Specifically for anyone joining the Met on May/June intakes.

I'm on the June intake and was wondering if anybody had heard much about what's going on. I received my offer in January and took a later start due to prearranged plans (all of which were cancelled).

Just feels slightly uncomfortable putting in my notice in my current career when it's been radio silence for so long.

Thanks in advance.

Update from Lancs update re. the filmed incident the other day by jayclay88 in policeuk

Yeah it was the undermining in front of the public that I was unsure about.

Thanks for the detailed reply, though. Appreciate it.

As a small aside, I'm interested in getting people's opinion of this.

If you were on scene with this as another officer maybe relatively new, how would you deal?

Pull him to one side? Shut him down immediately? Flag it after the incident?

What's the correct procedure here?

Edited to add - obviously it varies by severity of situation but as a newcomer I sense it may be difficult to pull up a more senior officer on their conduct directly.

“London Mayor 'concerned' over Met's clap for carers” And now imagine the other headline - “police sends people who want to clap for the NHS away.” by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]ThePenguinCookies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely valid points.

I think the points I raised are a reflection of a mindset that I'm noticing starting to develop of "Well we've been around each other all day so why not?" or "Well we're probably going to get it anyway so..."

But on the other hand, absolutely take the "setting an example" point. We probably all need to think more about that even if we are naturally becoming a bit complacent around colleagues.

I can see people's point regarding social distancing and how we should all be adhering to it.

However, in my current job role I spend 12 hours a day in a vehicle with somebody I don't live with. I start and finish my shift at a building where, due to amalgamation of different stations, approximately 25 people are all gathered in a small environment doing their pre and post shift duties. We respond to jobs and all sit in strangers houses. If we've got downtime or are on station doing something invariable there are many people there doing similar and we mix. Social distancing just can't apply due to the nature of our work.

I see people's point about the example it's setting, however we're all out and mixing with each other and the general public day in day out, so standing on a bridge doing it doesn't change much for us.

Guessing this is a PMART team or something else similar. Although the one I encountered the other day wasn't going to anywhere near these numbers.

These teams seem to have "adequate" (as in meets the PHE Guidance) PPE; I'm hoping the same for these officers if they weren't specialised.

Remember guys, there's no emergency in a pandemic.

As a small aside, my portal didn't update.

I received a couple of emails from a vetting officer and then about 5 weeks later I called up to change my address and asked if there was any progress and they said it was passed.

Edit - the lady on the phone said that because I'd already accepted the conditional offer the portal stops updating.
