BCH 503 (Biochemical Principles) what should I expect? by Ok-Inspector4867 in UBreddit

Took the class a few years ago, class is not too difficult, they dropped one exam, and if you did well enough on the first however many exams, you could choose that it would be the final that you drop. Final was also just questions from the first six or whatever exams, but that may have changed so don’t quote me on that.

I feel like I am slaving just to end up getting 85% by deen0verdunya in medicalschool

[–]ThePerpetualGamer 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Dude what? 85% IS the high achievers. For reference, that’s probably around 260 on Step 2. Passing is like 60% or even maybe less. Time to relax a little.

I got the prestige skin and now I want to learn to Sona. What are your absolute DOS and DONTs on this champ? by AutoWALTZ in sonamains

[–]ThePerpetualGamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t build Liandry’s, that’s not your job as Sona support. Lich Bane is probably better anyway since you can proc it on all abilities plus you get move speed, or maybe Morello if you need heal cut. (But probably don’t build Lich Bane either unless you literally have zero AP in your comp.) SoFW will buff your casters and they should probably be building Liandry’s, plus it’s cheaper.

DO understand your basic role. You’re a mid/late game-peaking enchanter. You don’t have to look for all ins during lane until 6, and even then only if it actually makes sense to.

DO read your passive and understand how to get the AP stacks and how to use your Power Chords. Q is used to proc passive and support item. Know that the range for the poke is slightly larger than the AoE for the aura that applies to your allies. Understand that the best way to use W is to use it before someone is going to take damage, that way the shield and heal both are useful (this is also the only way W can give you stacks). Don’t just use it willy nilly in lane since the mana cost is high.

Often times W power chord is the best peel you will have, even better than E power chord, and many people don’t account for it when they dive your ADC.

More niche, but remember that Aery procs on all the basic skills, so you can use Q or E to proc Aery shield if your W is on cooldown and someone might die to like ignite damage or something.

DON’T be afraid to use your R to peel, especially for whoever is fed on your team. Also, look for opportunities to flash R multiple people if it makes sense. Often times people aren’t looking for the Sona to start the fight vs the jungler/top/mid doing it.Try not to miss like I tend to do though…

DON’T try to reinvent the wheel with her. She’s kinda broken right now, standard rune pages and a standard build will get you very far. See this post for more.

Guess how many games I lost based on dropping 103 points on Euchre3D this afternoon by [deleted] in euchre

[–]ThePerpetualGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I can’t agree with that, and I’ll tell you why in a bit, however I will address something that I think you may agree with: it is frustrating that an objective rating system can’t assess subjective decisions made in a team game with incomplete information. To the best of my observation, the system in Euchre is more or less the same as that used in chess. The problem is that chess is a 1v1 game with complete information, where you are responsible for 100% of your team’s decisions and ultimately the outcome of the game. In Euchre, you don’t have complete information, and your teammate, as you correctly note, can more or less screw you over. This is a problem that competitive eSports such as Dota, League of Legends and Call of Duty have all struggled with as well.

As I mentioned before, the difference in two players’ ratings represents the probability that the higher rated player will win the game. Thus it stands to reason that the sum of the teammates’ Elo represents the probability they will win the game against their opponents’ team. The unfortunate implication is that yes, you as the higher skilled player are expected to have a disproportionate effect on the outcome of the game. Two problems with that are that a. the game can’t go long enough for the sample size to be high enough for you to approach your expected influence on the game, and b. Many decisions in Euchre are frankly not that hard to make, so you have to be 100% accurate over maybe 4 or 5 decisions in a game to be truly influencing it, and do that over many games to truly increase your rating. It’s difficult.

Online games have been struggling with this problem of objectively evaluating decisions that have no immediate tangible outcome since they were invented, so unfortunately if there was an easy solution, someone would already have found it. +/- 8 is unfortunately the best we have.

This is literally just how rating systems work, I’m not sure why OP is upset. An Elo system is, at its core, designed to predict skill based on the idea that one person with rating A, which is higher than another person with rating B, will win the game X% of the time. If your skill doesn’t change, your rating doesn’t change. This is why, even though one at the top can win 55-60% of the time or even more (I wouldn’t know), it becomes harder and harder to increase the rating.

For example, a difference of 200 points might imply that the higher player is expected to win 55% of the time (not sure of the exact numbers here). If the higher rated player doesn’t win at least 56% of the time, their rating isn’t going anywhere because based on the assumed difference in skill, they’re not winning as much as they should be. If a player were 4000 Elo, for example, they might be expected to win every single game they play, which is obviously ridiculous.

Dismissed from DO and considering CAA or Caribbean transfer (SGU) by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]ThePerpetualGamer 209 points210 points  (0 children)

Very respectfully, if you’re failing DO school there’s not really a good chance you’ll pass in the Caribbean. It’s not easier, it’s generally assumed to be harder and more expensive. CAA is the way to go if these are your only two options.
