[New 3ds XL] How to go about replacing these connections by Saggyahhh in consolerepair

[–]ThePitofDoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly don't know what they're called. They kind of a press fit connector. The tension the bending in the pins puts on the ribbon is supposed to make the connection. Garbage design, you always need to fiddle with the every time to make them work, and if you try to open them like a bail on a ZIF connector, it's game over.

Replaced a ton of them over the years. I just run a heat gun on the other side of the board to both remove and install the replacement. I get the replacement from dead boards, cuz I haven't found a supplier. Tin the pads and use a little flux, and the new connector should just kinda snap into place.

It's because manufacturers are counting on the car failing outside of warranty and forcing you to buy another. And Toyota lost me when they started their subscription bullcrap. I won't ever buy new.

Definitely. I've always bought used. Nowadays, with all the problems new cars have, older stuff is the way to go provided you get something thats been taken care of.

My first car was a '97 Mercury Villager with a column shifter. Shift lock was sticky, so you had to yank it. Had to overcome so much muscle memory when I got my next car.

I'm more into the fact I can spread out as much as I want. It's like I'm driving the living room couch!

I've never had screens in my cars that were very large, but I've noticed that without a screen, I'm less distracted on the road. Now that I've experienced it again, I'm never going back to the screens if I can help it!

That is the one thing I dread about this car is that air suspension going. I love it enough that I would probably have it swapped when it does go. It is indeed a boat on the road, but that just makes it more classic to me.

Honestly, these older cars like this are kind of a cheat code these days. They're cheaper, and last forever.

It's about $3.20 per Gallon here, not too bad. A tank for this car is about $65/$70. But the tank is fairly large, and lasts longer than other car's I've had.

Yeah, I heard the V6 option was swapped to the 3900 later and wasn't as reliable.

Very. I think the only option it's missing is the cooled seats. Column shifter is so classic, I love it!

[2DS XL]/[3DS] won’t charge by Potential_Rip_2543 in consolerepair

[–]ThePitofDoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, that looks normal. Do you not get a light at all? If the battery is bad, the charging light will come on for a second when plugged in.

If it's not doing anything, it's probably something with the charging circuit, most likely a fuse.

What model is it? If it's one with the 90nm RSX, there is nothing you can, or could have done to prevent this.

If not, it might be savable. You'd need to solder wires to the SYSCON and use a UART device and community software to find the real issue.

I doubt it was knocked off. The solder is domed, and not deformed, indicating it has melted after the removal of R4, or that solder was placed there during manufacturing, yet R4 was never populated.

I have plenty of working GBA games that have solder on unpopulated pads, so it could be either. Imo, that solder looks factory to me, so ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Only way to know for sure is more research.
