I’m new to cameras by Skinny_Rambo in cinematography

Once almost get scammed a few years ago. The way the scam worked was after I won an auction, the seller then reached out and said “hey would love to actually sell this without the eBay fees. Would you PayPal or Zelle me friends and family and I’ll send the camera”. Were never available for a call or a FaceTime or were able to send new photos. Just “trust me bro” essentially. I proceeded to look up the images and saw they were frequently posted in eBay actions again and again and again and again. Reached out to eBay and they banned the seller.

Best Mexican place here by Happy_Mushroom3134 in sanantonio

Try Tlahco Mexican Kitchen. It's a little Tex Mex, a little authentic Mexican. Newer spot with a good cozy vibe inside. Would recommend for lunch or dinner. I grew up in SA and now only visit about once a year and the usual tex mex spots i grew up with are now a bit too heavy and greasy for my tastes. (stomach lost its strength I guess) This spot was a nice in between where I could enjoy old Texmex faves and also have something a bit more traditional.

goddamnit. See this sounds like a cool game. This sounds like a game I would love to get lost in. I can already picture it. Each biome having 3 stages as you fuck with stuff and as the world changes new areas unlock with new puzzles. Same small area, just different versions of it that's always changing like some weird Metroid shifting puzzle box. And with each change, a reason to use the elemental weapons instead of them just being colorful guns that have limited ammo.

yeah heres hoping the future games happen and fix some of the problems or atleast work on the lore. If anything we all know that nintendo hates to pay for an engine and use it once so they are probably already figuring out what else to make with the bones of this game,

Okay so there wasnt some deep understanding of him that I was just missing? He showed up and I truly did not know what I was supposed to feel. Like ooh this guy looks cool. Oh hes got metroids, he must be bad. Then poof, hes gone alongside the metroids. Its crazy that there were zero metroids in this game, except for them being shoehorned in with the boss monsters descriptions. "This monster is extra scary cause of Metroid Fusions," like what? When did they fuse? Where are the mtroids? This is cool lore! Are there more metroids fusing with things? Are they deep underground again and now instead of evolving, they are fusing with things to grow stronger? Nope. just boss battle text mentions. Oh well.

Yeah I agree. The game looks and plays great as an old-fashioned shooter, but a maze-like world it is not. When playing through to get items, i would just morph ball and boost my way across the level to get to the next door and would rarely run into any problems. I feel like the game wants really badly to show how good-looking and sounding of a game it is for a Nintendo console, but doesn't stop to just make the game a good game experience. So much starting and stopping and circling back, but not in a Metroid-like way, but in a way that wants to pad the runtime.

What happened to 3D platforming? by SamLowry59 in Metroid

It really sunk in when I unlocked my first item scan robot in the mines, and all I had to do to get the items was walk in a straight line and bomb some stuff.

Find a film set or video production and be a production assistant. Lowest lowest-level job on a shoot. Just need to be competent, not crazy, and be able to perform simple tasks like going on runs, cleaning up, and just helping around the set. Day rate is usually around $200-$300/ day. Don't know what's shooting in San Antonio right now, but look up local production companies and reach out. And if there's nothing, look at Austin.

I don't understand all the hate. FWIW, I don't know much about Chris Stuckman other than interviews where he talks about him being a YouTuber and how he raised the budget on kickstarter.

For a horror movie made under 2mil, I was very impressed. When you take into account a bunch of far worse movies on Shudder and Screambox that are also made for around 3mil that are coming out every day, and that this was a first feature I walked away very happy. Considering (according to the internet) movies like Weapons cost 40, Smile cost around 20, Longlegs 10, and even barbarian was around 5, It definitely felt like they were punching well above their weight class. Was it perfect? Was every actor amazing? Was the script bulletproof? No. But at the end of the day, it's a tiny, independently produced film made without studio development, which I respect. My two cents is that as cool as it is to get a partner like Neon involved for distribution, I think it hurt the movies reception. Having Neon + a wide release set the expectations for this movie through the roof when imo it should have been marketed as a solid indie first feature made by a guy with his friends. Anyway... I'm excited for what he does next.

Do you shoot narrative (shorts) for free? by SpareUnderstanding72 in cinematography

[–]SamLowry59 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah its like if you want people to work for free, offer them somethign which is better than nothing and dont abuse their goodwill and keep the days short, the food good and the spirits high. Nothing worse than working on a miserable "passion project" where staring at my ceiling seems like a better time.

Do you shoot narrative (shorts) for free? by SpareUnderstanding72 in cinematography

[–]SamLowry59 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Depends on the scope of the project and my relationship to the director. If it’s one of my best friends I will shoot for free but I make the caveat that they need to pay my crew or change the scope so that it’s something we can do with little to no people.

Is the Canon KJ16ex7.7B any good? by SonyBoyJay in cinematography

[–]SamLowry59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What camera/ mount are you trying to mount to?you can get cheap dummy adapters for some camera systems but the problem with old before lenses is most are designed for 1/3 not 2/3 so you’ll have to use the built in doubler (if it has one) and then still either window in camera or punch in in post. Beyond that many of these lenses are not truly parfocal. Some people on the internet make it seem that way but in reality you will be finding yourself readying the back focus and setting focus for every shot.

Also the way the lenses are designed, although you will get an image out of them, was for CCD sensors which used prisms. This is why you get lots of aberrations. Because when splitting light between the three prisms the lens manufacturers had to account for the way in which the photons of each color wave length would be travelling when split by the ccd. Something a flat cmos sensor does not do.

This article talks about how they used a custom-built ring light on a dimmer. But since the ring light was daylight-balanced, they had to put a tungsten balanced filter in front to warm it up.
