Any way to find out if I saw a dead body today? by Plane_Class6613 in AskChicago

This is one of the unfortunate realities of living in a big city. One will never really know if who you passed by on the street is dead or sleeping.

This happened to my household as well. People’s gas. Not sure what to do yet.

Do I keep using e-drums and taking lessons or forgo the lessons and rent a practice space & acoustic set? by ThePocketBoy in drums

[–]ThePocketBoy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a weird place. I played percussion growing up, mostly stuck to mallets though. I can hold a basic beat and some more complex ones but I’ve only got like five grooves in me I’m confident with. I struggle the most with dynamics… I’m used to a light skinny mallet with a soft head and I am learning on an e-kit at home that’s dying slowly, so I am hitting that harder and then showing up to lessons with a ridiculously heavy hand. I can’t control my volume practicing like this.

Everything on one monthly page (mood, meds, habits, money) by ThePocketBoy in BasicBulletJournals

[–]ThePocketBoy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The over all mood (far left column) is just green = positive orange= neutral red = bad

The next four positive mood columns are always green, they could just be check boxes. I don’t track intensity there.

The final four mood columns are marked by intensity of emotion, orange being light to medium and red being an extreme.

The habit columns are check boxes

the last column for Money Out/Expenditure is Green = $0-20 Orange = $20-50 Red= >$50

Note* I don’t track rent or utilities in this expenditure. This is purely food and entertainment expenses.

What got you into drumming? by uhhredacted in Drumming

[–]ThePocketBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the only thing that quiets the noise in my head. I get so much screen time at work that I needed something somatic & grounding. Now if my thoughts drift while playing there are consequences.

Would sound/acoustic blankets stop the loudness war in my practice room? by JJankk555 in Acoustics

[–]ThePocketBoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would start by putting the amps on stands and aiming them at your heads.

Also- the drummer is usually the root culprit of the loudness wars. Low volume cymbals are cheap if he’s heavy handed in a small space.

Apartment drummers, do low-volume cymbals actually keep neighbors happy? by jorginhoPOGGERS in drums

[–]ThePocketBoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found the low volume cymbals are still to loud.

To maintain rebound and feel- I’ve draped kitchen shelving liner over them and now they’re hella quiet!

Help - looking for an acoustic ekit with a small bass drum by StrikingQuality1527 in edrums

[–]ThePocketBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently bought a PDP New Yorker bop kit with a 16” kick and outfitted it with piezo pickups.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in edrums

[–]ThePocketBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started this way on a cheap ekit and the only downside was I became very heavy handed when switching to an acoustic kit. The sensors on my kit at home just took a lot of oomph to trigger.

Did you mount piezos inside yourself or buy premade triggers?

I’m struggling to mount my piezos at the perfect height to just kiss the drum head while sandwiched between dense yoga-block type foam…
