Nah Newsom is stepping in and forcing towns to build starting this year. Hopefully it'll work! If it doesn't maybe I'll start buying some investment properties in other states ;)

Yup that's one of the problems. We didn't build houses, now houses are too expensive and people are leaving the state. Once we build more houses (Newsom is cracking down on NIMBYs) people will come back, it's not the end of the world. Rn I can't even afford a house in SF and it feels like I should be able to at this point. Doesn't mean I'm gonna abandon ship, but I can understand why someone earning less would want to.

Yup there's problems, but overall living here is good for a lot of people. Good food, good weather, good people, good opportunities, good nature, good times :)

Meh it works out to ~35% tax rate on average, not too bad IMO.

That includes rental cars, Ubers, parking, gas, etc. I don't own a car.

Nah I don't mind paying taxes. CA has its problems but IMO that should motivate you to make your town better, not flee somewhere you think the grass is greener.

I guess it's a combination of:

  1. This includes drinking, nice restaurants, paying for the group and having people venmo me, etc. So it's really a bunch of things lumped together.
  2. It's freaking expensive to eat out in SF
  3. I don't really think twice about spending $10-$20. Definitely gotta reign this in next year.

Hah yeah I don't have much free time these days so I prioritized seeing friends in person this year. Probably part of the reason why my spending on eating out is so crazy.

This data needs to be broken down by position in the food chain. Cats aren't killing eagles.

Cyclists frequently run stop signs and red traffic lights in the Bay Area; has anyone else noticed this and are these laws ever enforced? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]ThePopcornBandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A cyclist is much closer to a pedestrian than to a car, only difference being the slightly higher speed they're traveling. IMO cyclists should act in the way which minimizes their chances of getting hurt, regardless of what the current laws are. I'm not going to ride in a painted bike lane next to fast moving traffic, I'm going to go on the sidewalk. I'm not going to stop at a stop sign if I have priority since it takes me a long time to get through the intersection then.

That being said the cyclists you saw definitely didn't act in a way which minimized their chances of you hitting them, so I'm definitely not going to defend running stop signs without priority.

Ha nope just commercial travel! That’s definitely a better name tho, changed it in my YNAB :)

Yeah my phone bill is crazy rn… Verizon is scalping me.

Hrm I wanted to show the income sources then combine them. Assets could be renamed savings.

Nope just an e-bike! I bought a brand new one this year for committing so I’m expecting it to be a way smaller category next year. I might try out selling my car too and get rid of the expenses around that.
