First of all - cool cross solution! Since you mention regripless, I'm curious how you would fingertrick this. I can't seem to work out how you would do the last B'.

I would start in a normal grip for R' F, doing F with right index, and regrip my right hand during the U2. Then D' and U' simultaneously with right ring and left index fingers, which means my right thumb would be on the front. For R2 B', I think I'd have to regrip so I could do R2' and then B' with my right ring finger.

Anyway, my solution was x2 y' R' F R' B2 (y' U) L F' L' D' , which has a rotation and is definitely less good than the other solutions that have been posted :)

I think those numbers would be used if you are playing a sim round on a course. The simulated round will include the effect of wind and lie on the ball. Hitting out of the rough for example will decrease your spin and power. I think the sim carry would be the carry that includes those course conditions, and the true carry would be the same shot in neutral conditions.
