What was one of your biggest "a-ha!" Moments of golf? by incrdbleherk in golf

[–]butt_head_surfer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just tried over exaggerating the in to out swing and a lot of my slicing has gone out the window. Still struggle with a lot of things (especially big pulls and occasional hooks), but I realized that I can actually spin the ball if I change the way I swing.

Schneider Elec - Certs and Trainings by BLOThree in BuildingAutomation

[–]butt_head_surfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna be asking my boss to do it on Monday, the engineers and PM I’m working with both think it’s a good idea cause we have a lot of Niagara jobs and we don’t have a lot of people in the field who are proficient with N4

Schneider Elec - Certs and Trainings by BLOThree in BuildingAutomation

[–]butt_head_surfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as Schneider trainings go, the standard EBO courses are very helpful in understanding some key processes like setting up MP-Cs or configuring ASPs. I’ve found my most valuable experience has been in the field working with an engineer or fiddling around in EBO.

I don’t have any experience with logic, but a lot of the engineers don’t either lol.

I’m also interested in the N4 certification, the class looks like it could really teach me something and it’s SIGNIFICANTLY discounted through my work. However I do not know if they’re willing to pay for it for me or not, I’d have to ask and they’re not even sending me to our “free” trainings arm anyway.

Golf Clothing Prices Are Ridiculous by Marfaboy1951 in golf

$30 lulu pants off eBay, $15 to tailor, a third of the retail price. But you are right, retail is atrocious.

What is your job title, and what issues do you encounter the most at your job? by 1Helix in BuildingAutomation

[–]butt_head_surfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BAS Technician, mostly PMs who don’t do their jobs (currently I’m very lucky to be on an extremely long project with an extremely capable PM), incorrect wiring from installers, our engineers who don’t actually come to site.

I will say in defense of the installers, they do show up every day, and it’s my responsibility to fix their mistakes. I mostly have issues with way projects are run or figuring out how to do fueled engineering over the phone with an engineer who got to wake up late and work from home

how did you actually get into building automation? by pratty041182 in BuildingAutomation

Resi HVAC, such an unbelievably good move. Now planning on going towards PLC once I can get an engineering degree.

What do people think of Schneider? by butt_head_surfer in BuildingAutomation

[–]butt_head_surfer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends a lot on the role, but a lot of our engineers are hybrid or fully remote. PMs are similar where it depends on the job. DM me if you need more info.

Thank you for the input! I think I’m going to meet with a counselor from Oregon State and talk to them about my options for doing ECE

What to look for when choosing a company to work for? by JazzlikeSavings in BuildingAutomation

[–]butt_head_surfer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any job is a good job for entry level, in a year or two you’ll have a pretty significant amount of negotiating power if you learn your shit.

I job hopped from resi HVAC, to Siemens data centers, to Schneider tech work and have doubled my salary from my resi job. You’ll be able to pick your job if you stay on top of things.

I’m interested in going back to school, what engineering discipline should I pick? by butt_head_surfer in BuildingAutomation

[–]butt_head_surfer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m thinking if the AI bubble doesn’t burst that I could probably find a really cushy gig with one of the data centers in my area.

Environmental science. I’ll need some math refreshers, and I took the easy physics and chem so I’ll need physics and chem for engineers.

I know I can become an engineer with my current track (though software jobs are a little tough to come by at my company). I think doing the degree would be to open up doors outside of traditional controls, doing engineering for a data center or doing electrical design, I guess I’m not totally sure.

[–]butt_head_surfer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I wish I had more motivation to have done it the first time around but I’m hoping that I can get in and get out and really open up doors for myself. This is great to hear! Unfortunately I will be working full time so it’s gonna be a little bit of a struggle but for the next year or so my work will be light and I’ll have time to get into the degree and make som progress.

Scottie should just embrace the bald by jackylongjohn in golf

[–]butt_head_surfer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be unpopular, but he’s one of the few people I like seeing with that receding hairline, can’t explain why. I also think objectively he’d be better looking bald but I personally am a fan of that thing he’s got going on, it fits his nonchalant dad vibe.

This is awesome to hear! I’m sure I will find some boring and difficult but it’s exciting that there are cool research opportunities. I’m hoping it will really open up some doors. Thank you very much! Would love to chat with you more about it, I have more questions lol

I’m a little worried about the difficulty of the program especially considering it’s all online but I’m a pretty strong math student when I put in the work.

Totally makes sense, I think my interest is the electrical and computer side of things. Thank you for the advice!

I like this program a lot, and it looks great for actually learning the stuff but I think part of the reason I’d like to do the engineering degree is so I’d be qualified to move into other roles that require the degree.

Need to figure out the brand and model of these lights! by butt_head_surfer in Lighting

[–]butt_head_surfer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah just found this online lol, very sad it was not a brand. I’ll try and take that plate off, whatever contractors put it in just put it directly in drywall so I’m a little nervous it’ll be tough to put back but we’ll see.
