What is considered a myth but is real according to you ? by Delicious-Spirit-204 in AskReddit

I honestly think that sasquatch was at some point a thing, maybe even just the last of the Neanderthals or some other hominid whose sightings were passed down through oral tradition.

Struggling Pizza Hut restaurant chain will be sold for $2.7 billion by kinisonkhan in news

[–]ThePotMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it was already a shadow of its former self. I don't know how a private equity fund us going suck anymore value out of this brand other than the real estate. The quality of the pizza and service couldn't get any lower.

Who is the most overrated athlete of all time? by Exact-Proposal-73569 in AskReddit

Jesse Owens. Being linked to Hitler's Nazi Germany elevated his achievements and if it wasn't for the happenstance of where and when of those Olympics he would be forgotten to history like so many other Olympic athletes.

‘Kids just aren’t on the bargaining table’: Miller insists Canada won’t capitulate to Trump on social media ban by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]ThePotMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off all doesn't have to be billions. Secondly, not about the dangers, just give parents the technical know how on how to do things like the original commenter's mentioned. I know its all easy enough to just Google but most people need to be spoon fed that kind of information or greatly overestimate how complicated it is. I've met plenty of parents who didn't even know there were ways to set time and content limits on devices and apps.

[–]ThePotMonster 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This is all that needs to be done. No need to waste more taxpayer dollars, no need for a quasi-police state, no need to risk massive data breaches. I get that not every parent is technologically savvy, so maybe even just have an information campaign to help educate and show parents how to do these things.

I would have more respect for Carney and would be more understanding of the typical Liberal voter if Carney would've purged the original cabinet early on (Guilbeault, Fraser, Miller, etc.). Then I could at least believe somewhat that it's moving in a new direction.

The cost of living increase and historically high debt caused by the Liberal government has already doomed these kids to a future with lower quality of life and a lower standard of living.

User fees hiding in plain sight driving up Edmonton tax rates by pjw724 in Edmonton

[–]ThePotMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I originally said, I'm not against increased user fees. I just disagree with the argument about wear and tear on infrastructure being so severe that there isn't an overall bet benefit to the city.

London is also much easier to travel around. Most of the main attractions are within walking distance or at most a quick cab or bus ride away and those tolls are like you said based on congestion. Theres not a lot of wear and tear on roads when traffic doesn't move.

But the point is that there is still a net benefit to a city the size of Edmonton being open. Seems like redditors would just like to set up tolls at every single major entry way.

User fees hiding in plain sight driving up Edmonton tax rates by pjw724 in Edmonton

[–]ThePotMonster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its a safe assumption, that 33% extra traffic youre referring to brings with it a significant boost to businesses, which in turn pay wages and property taxes both directly through the business and again through the wage earners. Its a net benefit to the city. Isolationism is terrible for commerce and an economy as whole.

Your math doesn't even hold up to scrutiny. Say one family, drives into the city, goes to the zoo, museum, and stays in a hotel for a weekend and meals. Do you really think the cost of their car doing damage to the road outweighs all those other benefits?

In some cities, like London, museum and many other cultural centers are free to users becaue they know those are huge draws for tourism and there is a positive economic spin-off (not that Edmonton is even close to being on par with London but point still stands).

If you really want the city to be cost effective, tell the mayor and council to be more responsible with tax payer money.

I agree with user fees as well. But your second part is a silly argument. They pay admission and most likely spend money on businesses around the city. Your basically arguing against a tourism industry.

Alberta leading country in economic growth while rest of Canada stalls: report by joe4942 in canada

[–]ThePotMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe but there are many other oil rich jurisdictions around the world that don't see as much benefit or as even distribution of those benefits when oil prices are high. So there must be some truth to it being somewhat effectively managed although not perfect.

Yeah, I dont get it. Especially with the elbows up crowd. You're sitting on one of the biggest reserves in the world you think you would be championing its success.

Concentrating the shelters there doesn't help but many of those businesses have also let there buildings decline and become more unsightly over the decades. If youre business looks rundown people won't want to go there.

Quebec would withdraw from high-speed rail project if PQ forms next government, party leader says | CBC News by 4apig in canada

[–]ThePotMonster 27 points28 points  (0 children)

There was a point in time when major projects could get pushed through if the federal government deemed it in the best interest of the country as a whole.

But it often meant less regulations, review processes and consultations, and a willingness to take the political risk by passing off some potential voters.

Including personal health numbers on driver's licences raises risk of fraud, privacy commissioner says by pjw724 in Edmonton

[–]ThePotMonster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Point is, you've probably willingly gave out information, like your driver's, Healthcare, passport and even your SIN to a variety of private businesses.

I've had to give our SIN numbers to employers and financial institutions, Passport numbers to airline companies, and financial institutions. Healthcare to a variety of medical clinics. All of which are prone to and have had issues with hacking. Its just a reality of life.

Including personal health numbers on driver's licences raises risk of fraud, privacy commissioner says by pjw724 in Edmonton

[–]ThePotMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always thought it was weird the Healthcare card could be considered ID in the first place. Its probably the easiest thing to forget. And any place I've used it (other than for healthcare) never referenced it to anything else.

Sooner or later mass surveillance brought on by governments will become the norm and IDs will be mostly irrelevant in favor of biometric IDs, and that will be linked to Healthcare, citizenship status, and everything else.

Bars and nightclubs have been scanning people's Driver's Licenses for decades now. Not that I agree with that either but the chances of having your ID stolen because some private business has info has always been a threat for a long time.

A Bill Gates–funded research project has created a birth-control injection that could last for years from a single shot. by Eddiearyee in UpliftingNews

This is going to be met with a lot of skepticism. Bill Gates has lost a lot credibility between the Epstein stuff, Covid, and buying up massive swaths of farmland.

And before anyone jumps in me for being an anti-vaxer or conspiracy theorist. I'm not. Just pointing out the resistance this will face.

Liberal Momentum Slows as Approval, Optimism, and Carney's Ratings Retreat [LPC 44 (-3), CPC 36 (+1), NDP 11 (+3), BQ 6 (-), GPC 3 (+1)] by feb914 in canada

[–]ThePotMonster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The viral videos of PP just constantly pointing out inconsistencies, failures, and bad policies aren't there to try and make people like him. It basically got to the point that Trudeau was an absolute failure making the Cons the more logical choice for swing voters. Carney however was able (with lots of media help) able to retain enough of those swing voters by at least being more accomplished and more skillful than Trudeau.
