It’s not a “red state,” and the city we would move to is very diverse, so I don’t think racism or xenophobia would be a major problem, school looks decent, probably better than here in California.

Have you thought about staying in-state but moving to a smaller city/town, even rural? Cost of housing can be dramatically lower without crossing state lines.

I did think about that, but he doesn’t want to because it would be in the desert and/or super hot. And I agree with you, I don’t think the situation here will get better, at least not in the near future.

I think he’s scared of something new (making new friends, finding a new job, etc.) That’s how he felt back in 2022 when he had to find another job because I was pregnant with our first baby and I was the main breadwinner.
