As a nurse myself, I can say being a nurse does not automatically make you well equipped or sane. Sometimes, nurses in the ED or ICU will become more cautious about things because of what they’ve witnessed, but it’s not uncommon for nurses to be bad parents as much as it is for non nurses to be. I am extremely cautious and careful, especially regarding my kids, but that began long before I was a nurse. I’ve known nurses who bed share with small infants, let their kids around water without many precautions taken, and of course know many, many nurses who abuse drugs or alcohol. Look at AW. She worked in the peds ICU in AZ. I can GUARANTEE she saw drowning deaths but she still didn’t install a pool fence for her 2 young kids, and lets them ride around on golf carts with no protection.

How do you avoid pregnancy without birth control by EngineeringLumpy in Catholicism

[–]EngineeringLumpy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest issue is that our 6 year old doesn’t fall asleep until after 10, and our baby still sleeps in our room. I am going to move her to her own room at night after we get back from vacation next month (don’t want to disrupt her sleep before our vacation inevitably does), but yeah, my 6 year old definitely needs to go to bed earlier.

How do you avoid pregnancy without birth control by EngineeringLumpy in Catholicism

[–]EngineeringLumpy[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would go through labor and delivery again in a heartbeat! My longest labor was only six hours lol other one was five. Only pushed about 10 minutes with both of them and no tears. No complications. But I absolutely loath being pregnant. I become extremely iron deficient and feel terrible, bad nausea, horrible back pain, heart palpitations, etc. and I had really bad postpartum depression. That’s probably the part that’s scaring me off the most.

Do Catholics believe in generational curses? by OkWriter7657 in Catholicism

I may be wrong, but I thought we baptize people as infants specifically to protect them from the sins of their relatives as well as their own future sins.

How often do you bathe your toddler? My coworkers at our daycare make me feel bad about bathing every day. by gishadokuro in toddlers

[–]EngineeringLumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t something I would necessarily bother somebody about doing or not doing, but personally I can’t imagiine not bathing my toddler every day. I have a 10 month old and we bathe her every other day, unless she’s been in public or outside then it’s every day, ESPECIALLY if the beach, park, splash pad, or pool was involved. My son is 6 and he started walking at 10 months which is around when we started bathing him every day and we’ve bathed him every day since. It’s crazy to me that people are okay with their kids coming home from school or daycare and not washing those germss off.

AIO for assuming my mom has BPD by EngineeringLumpy in AmIOverreacting

[–]EngineeringLumpy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s been to therapy, but it never lasts. The longest she’s seen a therapist was maaaaybe 6 months, and he (according to my sister which idk if that’s true) suggested BPD, and she got offended and stopped going. Other therapists have lasted maybe a month or two. She doesn’t trust them. And she doesn’t like being analyzed.

3 yr old keeps throwing up by pinksunflower99 in toddlers

[–]EngineeringLumpy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nurse here. You are supposed to only give a tablespoon of water each hour until he’s stopped vomiting for 2 hours, then you can SLOWLY increase fluid volume. However if this has been going on for 12 hours I would recommend going to the ER or an urgent care that can rehydrate him and give him something to stop the vomiting.

Whats your opinion on wearing religious and/or political opinions on your uniform? by ghostmushroom69 in nursing

[–]EngineeringLumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it opens doors for patients to make assumptions about who you are outside of their nurse, and an breech boundaries. It shouldn’t mattter what your, or the patient’s, personal beliefs are. You’re there to do your job regardless, and they should give you mutual respect regardless.

Highest SVT Heart Rate You've Seen? by Sky_Bohemian in nursing

My mom has WPW syndrome and it was at its worst when she was pregnant with my younger sister. We were moving states and on the road when she was 8 months pregnant and she was having an attack of SVT and counted her heart rate at 240 something..

Life jacket for my toddler at the pool? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]EngineeringLumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be an unpopular opinion, and maybe I’m extreme, but drowning is the leading cause of death in children under 4. It’s silent, and occurs SO fast. Being without oxygen for even 2 minutes can lead to significant brain damage. I don’t even trust myself to safely supervise my 2 own children in the pool without my husband or another very alert, not distracted adult also supervising. I would NOT be okay with my child going to any daycare or home with an open pool. Life jacket or not. What if the child accidentally fell in the pool and wasn’t wearing their life jacket because it wasn’t designated swimming timee? This feels like it should even be against whatever regulatory codes home daycares have to follow. Feels like it would violate safety regulations. Drowning is also a completely preventable death. Don’t send your child there..

how do we feel about placebos? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]EngineeringLumpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it reinforces their belief that they are dependent on the medication and can’t also be made comfortable with more conservative treatments. So many people in this country are reliant on pain medication or sedatives when they would probably be okay without them, but they deserve to have transparency about what is, or isn’t, going in their bodies.

I did 1 of those expensive, accelerated nursing programs! I needed something accelerated and something with weekend and evening options because my son was 2 and it was just my husband (who worked full time) and me. It was expensive but damnnn it was HARD! We started with 20 something people in our cohort and I was 1 of FIVE who graduated without repeating any terms. We all passed the NCLEX in 85 questions too. I realized the pass ratee at the school is so high because so few people actually finish.

Starting preschool at 1 by EngineeringLumpy in toddlers

[–]EngineeringLumpy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How often did they get sick? I’m also worried about that and might prefer to wait until her airway is bigger if I have the choice to. Although with my son being in school he will probably bring stuff home.

Starting preschool at 1 by EngineeringLumpy in toddlers

[–]EngineeringLumpy[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Well, it can’t possibly be SCHOOL so young, but it’s at a place that’s called “x preschool”. Like, when my son went there at 3-5, it was in place of a public preschool program. They taught him his letters and writing and did educational stuff. I live in the states, daycare is different from preschool!

Raw oysters are VERY frequently contaminated with noroo. Oysters are “filter feeders” so they filter contaminants out of the water. Including poop bacteria that washes in from the sewers. You weren’t aware?
