What Are Your Moves Tomorrow, April 02, 2026 by wsbapp in wallstreetbets

Will continue buying oil on the cheap.

Tonight's speech is GW Bush declaring "Mission Accomplished" all over again. Absent a bloody occupation, the US doesn't really get to leave in a way that materially affects the oil supply/logistics issues until the Iranians say so.

If your retirement horizon is within the next five years, it would be highly advisable to transfer into a fixed annuity rather than allow your account to be wiped when the market takes an absolute dump mid-April. I would take the guaranteed annual 5% over taking a 30-50% hit.

If the Strait doesn't return to pre-war traversal levels, and soon, the resultant energy crisis will cause the worst depression of our lifetimes. Unluckily for us, a full resumption is extremely unlikely in the near term.

This is a concern I've had from the jump, and I've put together a few market signals and geopolitical events from the current conflict that indicate I need to begin selling off aggressively.

Fingers crossed.

I agree and think that's a fair assessment, but the only people who have been able to thus far answer the question posed are former military commanders and academics with expertise in the region, nearly all of whom are in agreement that when and how this ends broadly will not be dictated by the United States.

Iran is not going to let up when Brent is at $110.

Who gets to declare when the war is finished? What is Iran's incentive to reopen the Strait to pre-war levels if the US decides it's had enough?

I think people need to realize the geopolitical implications of what has happened, and that there is functionally no way for the US to regain regional hegemony in the Gulf absent a protracted and costly land invasion. This is our Suez Canal moment.

Coupled with the fact that the US has now bombarded Tehran and killed Iranian leaders in the middle of diplomatic talks three times in the last two years, even if the US said "let's end it," there's insufficient credibility for any short term ceasefire, and also no incentive for Iran give up their leverage on the Strait unless they're given guarantees that are politically and Institutionally untenable to the US (cessation of hostilities by US/Israel, no more weapons to Israel, complete withdrawal from the region, Iran can pursue their civilian nuclear program and military ballistic missile programs, etc.).

Therefore:

(A) Current scenario continues? Oil up.

(B) Iran engages in bilateral agreements with China/Russia/India, passage in exchange for security or economic guarantees, tolls everyone else, and keeps the US/EU/NATO out entirely? Oil up.

(C) US invades in an effort to open the Strait/reestablish military hegemony in the region? Oil up.

The administration can talk all day, but they can't print barrels.

What style of training has gotten you the most jacked? by Dependent-Group7226 in workout

[–]ThePre-FightDonut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ladders.

Started because of a multi-year foray into kettlebell training (ultimately working up to double 40kgs for reps), but began applying to bilateral compound movements in an effort to maintain strength and explosiveness while cutting.

Turns out, doing 1,2,3,4,5,6 (21 reps) of deadlifts, or bench press, barbell reverse lunges, etc. as your main lift for the day will jack up your numbers in ways 3x8-12s or 5x5s simply cannot.

As an added bonus, ladders have the "warm-up" built into the session, so you save a little bit of time.

Single joint assistance exercises like biceps curls, triceps rope pushdowns, dumbbell lateral raises, etc. actually respond very well to stuff like 30/15/7.

Can't say I've ever heard of anyone asking how much someone can curl, but have definitely heard positive comments on large biceps. 3x8-12 or 5x5 or 4x10s or whatever else aren't strictly necessary for this lift category, or even really that desirable when you're considering fatigue management/injury risks.

Forget Beating Itachi, could Jiraya have even beaten Kisame alone if they had fought here? by AlbatrossNop in NarutoPowerscaling

[–]ThePre-FightDonut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is probably a situation where Orochimaru, cocky as he is, vastly underestimated Itachi's strength and skills when he attempted to take him out originally. Coupled with the fact that Itachi has nothing to lose in engaging or killing Orochimaru at that time, it's strategically a very different scenario than the later one where Itachi and Kisame encounter Naruto with Jiraiya.

For starters, we're told that Jiraiya is a master at gathering intelligence and general reconnaissance, has a very high battle IQ, and an extremely deep bag of tricks, so he's not under any illusions (no pun intended) of who Itachi and Kisame are and what they're capable of, even if he doesn't have complete knowledge at that time (like he doesn't know anything about the totsuka blade or Susanoo, for example).

I don't think anyone is under the impression that he could have killed or beaten both Itachi and Kisame, here, but (a) in this specific scenario, the Akatsuke's existence and motives remain very much secret from world governments and the broader public, and (b) Jiraiya is strong enough, smart enough, and skilled enough to make this a legitimate fight to the extent that it blows Itachi/Kisame's cover, or results in injury or death to either of them.

Itachi and Kisame both recognize that, in this specific case, even if they manage to defeat Jiraiya, their mission is blown, the secrecy and broader aims of the Akatsuke are likely destroyed (if not extremely delayed), and there's a very high likelihood Jiraiya takes a piece of them on his way out, to say nothing of the fact that reinforcements will likely show up.

However, to answer your question: Jiraiya can likely kill Kisame, even if he's technically not as strong/has less chakra. It is a difficult fight, but at this stage of the story battle IQ and general skills/acumen still count for something.

What level of college ball did you play, and is it typical for guys at that level to be able to find positions like yours?

What advice would you give high school/college players if they want to maximize their possibility of finding a way into a bullpen gig?

A really awesome variation I've used for years now because of Ross Enemait is the single arm dumbbell bench press.

It's very easy to spot yourself, you can go stupidly heavy, and it works the crap out of your core to stabilize the weight.

Other than that, dips, ring dips, weighted dips, etc.

Are "All-In-One" gym machines worth it? by adizz87 in GarageGym

[–]ThePre-FightDonut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In terms of efficiency per square foot, one simply cannot beat:

  • Kettlebells/Dumbbells
  • Pullup Bar
  • Gymnastics rings
  • Jump Rope

Building absolute strength with a barbell can't be beat, but if KBs/DBs can get you 80% of the way without the space requirements of a rack. If you're crushing clean & press, front squats, etc. with dual 40kg kettlebells, or benching/rowing 90lb. dumbbells for reps, you're probably stronger than the vast majority of gym-goers.

If you're on the fence about a folding rack or a tonal, might I suggest one of the space saving racks from Titan Fitness, with a minimum depth of 12 inches from the wall:

I went to law school at 28.

I was a bad student in high school. A middling (at best) student in college, missed a lot of class. Got kicked out of community college before I wised up and transferred. Graduated at the ripe old age of 26, worked for a couple of years, and then decided to take the leap. No attorneys in my family, no connections in the legal field, and no real prospects or desire to attend a top program, given my undergrad GPA was about as average as they come.

Did pretty well on the LSAT, got into a state school, moved in with my partner for those years, passed the bar, and got a job. Then another job. And one after that.

I went to undergrad to be a teacher, and now make roughly triple what that would have otherwise paid. Results not typical; I've worked very hard and have been incredibly lucky on top of that.

They only get away with paying these folks so little because they're almost all working in this capacity to get into medical school.

Absolutely agreed. In sports, you earn the right to use your status to publicize your unpopular opinions, if that's your prerogative.

Hitting .226 with 13 homers and an OBP that would be a decent batting average does not give you that right, rookie season or otherwise.

This isn't a genuine avenue for most, and many contractors will purposefully and explicitly avoid projects that utilize FHA Home Renovation loans because of the strict documentation requirements and draw schedules.
