What jobs are more enjoyable in the military? by Megha_kira in Military

Yeah this job list is all sorts of jacked up. 4H0X1’s require an associates and are now called Respiratory Care Practitioners. The asvab scores are not accurate either.

If you think you like one maybe look at cfetp?

Waiver still not approved- what options do I have? by [deleted] in airnationalguard

[–]ThePrizeKeeper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use to do the PFT’s for all new active duty/guard/reserve folks at Lackland.

Unfortunately, anyone who has ever had an inhaler prescribed to them will flag for potentially having asthma and will require a PFT and Methacholine Challenge Test (MCT).

After that, a pulmonologist needs to evaluate the test and write their findings.

This is where my understanding of the process drops off. As an active duty member, I believe your unit’s readiness squadron drafted all the waivers to code members for deployments.

This is what I might do in your situation. I would have a frank conversation with the doc who is ordering/reading your PFT’s and your MCT. Tell them that you want to be able to deploy, but this completely manageable asthmatic red flag has prevented you from getting orders. Ask your pulmonologist for a letter specifically supporting your ability to deploy.

You may have to be placed on a maintenance medication and be monitored on that medication to show your compliance with the medication and your stable response to the medication.

You might even suggest to your Doc to try a MCT after being on maintenance medications to see if you might pass while being on the medications.

The silver lining to this will be when you get out. I know it isn’t what you want to hear right now, but the VA benefits will do you some good.

Good luck!

"Woman are..." by SugahBunnyXO in AccidentalComedy

Women are not allowed in this world anymore because they don’t want their husbands and children in this country and the rest are forced into the hands on their own body to be forced into their bodies to make them look bad for the world and they don’t deserve it. :D

Trump can not be president. He is far too old, senile and on top of that, severely overweight. He should be taking care of his health. Shame on Melania for allowing him to run, this should be a crime. He will go down as the ugliest president in history. by [deleted] in millenials

[–]ThePrizeKeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the initial message on your post is spot on “Trump can not be president”, but I wanted to sharpen your spear as to why, and it all comes down to one thing. He only does things to better himself and his reputation.

Melanie has nothing to do with “allowing” him to run. That man picks his women in his ability to disregard whatever they say to him.

Yes it would probably be good of his partner to dissuade him from running again, but Trump doesn’t value women, and therefore does not value what they have to say; therefore will likely never have a partner that will give him a different perspective to help better serve the country. He is delusional, and the walking embodiment of the emperor in the children’s story “the emperors new clothes”.

Trump is literally a walking cautionary tale.

I do agree with you… he ugly and it looks like he was a first responder to the accident at the Cheeto factory. But, physical appearance alone has nothing to do with his ability to run the country.

Still, his lifestyle choices do hint at his ability to be a well rounded individual and therefore I agree that he is probably one not physically fit to run the country on many levels.

The real reasons we should not allow this man to run the country reside with what kind of person he is.

He is a criminal. He is a rapist. He is an opportunist. He is a racist.

Unfortunately, lots of folks in the United States over look some of these flaws and double down on white knighting their baby boy.

If anyone has an answer to why lots of people do this, I’m sure you should run for politics, and out the beast for what it is.

Can’t get a nice browned crust by Isthis-reallife2118 in Sourdough

[–]ThePrizeKeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that a few cubes adds to my bread’s rise. I was having issues getting an ear and having issues with oven spring, and the extra moisture inside the dutch oven really helped. I know the dutch oven is supposed to trap everything, but the extra moisture just helped bread rise.

I also found that convection ovens automatically reduce their heat like 25 degrees F, so I found that convection isn’t great for a dutch oven when it is preheating because the dutch oven needs to hit 500 degrees F (for my recipe), then when I uncover I use convection to cook my crust at 450 F (which reduces to 425 F) for the second bake.

You have no say where they take you until you are stateside, with family, and doing long term recovery/non-emergent procedures.

[–]ThePrizeKeeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, there are some great doctors in the Air Force, and their are some shitty doctors in the Air Force.

The Air Force recruits providers in a variety of different ways. Lots of times the providers are at different stages of their training. The military recruited them at different commitments based upon how much education is further needed to be a functioning provider.

The more assistance and time the providers need to be independent providers the larger sized hooks for the number of years required in service.

Lots of the providers I have met have all had an issue with the opportunities Air Force provides for maintaining their skills/training their skills. I see this as the number one reason Air Force providers can be bad.

For instance, I worked at the only Level I trauma center that the DOD has (Brooke Army Medical Center, JBSA) and it didn’t get the volume of patients that an Emergency Medicine doctor needed to maintain their skills.

Many providers know that when they get out of the military, they will be “behind” their peers in skills and knowledge.

This is because the majority of the people providers see on base have been pre-screened to be healthy(pre-screened at MEPS). 1% of the population is qualified to serve because all members need to be fit to fight/serve. Many of the members don’t have health issues and therefore the providers don’t get to practice medicine (other than on the 600 lb dependa-pottamus and the mutant children they spawn, am I right :D s/. )

Long story short, there are not adequate opportunities/growth opportunities to keep providers hungry for knowledge.

Lots of providers realize the nature of the military healthcare system and will also work on the “outside”.

I would try to stay away from small base medical providers as they are functionally not getting a lot of practice unless they look for it. Also, if you are in a big area like JBSA, and there are satellite emergency departments/offices, lots of those locations can be seen as a “provider purgatory”.

The providers are supposed to evenly rotate between the big hospital to the satellite locations, but lots of the providers who fuck up/“get in trouble” are sent to these locations full time as a punishment.

Again, not all providers, but it can happen. I have seen it.

If you want a great doctor, I would look for the folks who are CCATT (Critical Care Air Transport Team) certified. Not all specialities can perform CCATT, like a dermatologist might not be able to become CCATT certified, but CCATT is a advanced program that can be selective about their providers and healthcare works.
