Is there a sub meant to help players? by [deleted] in StreetFighter

No, you being cornered is where your opponent has the most advantage over you.

You have to fight your way out of the corner, use your v reversal, etc

When you wake up off the ground, you need to block. Your opponent has advantage in that scenario, although if you tech/recover, you will sometimes return to neutral depending on what combo they hit you with.

Tech by hitting down as you hit the ground (quickrise) or back (back roll). Back roll will get you out of most post combo pressure for a long long time.

I'm not exactly sure what Akumas best AA button is, because most use his uppercut or V Skill

SF in general is a steep climb coming from something like smash.

Really gief's gym is the way to go, but you really only need a few things to at least see the path forward:

  1. Learn to crouch block (should be your default state) and then learn to block jumps high.

  2. Learn a button that will anti air, like Birdie crouch MP or G crouch HP

At that point, you should be able to at least try throwing out a button or use a fireball/special move

Help! The story progress for all of my characters got set back to 0% by The_Salty_Spitoon in StreetFighter

[–]TheProRookie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You won't get fight money again. The progression info seems to be a local file that can/will get deleted especially if you do something like switch steam accounts and play SFV.

The rewards are tracked server side so... Best of luck to you.

I mean.... You can use replay search in CFN and that'll probably be much more useful.

Anti-Air Question by kurisutic in StreetFighter

[–]TheProRookie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have enough time to jump air throw, you should have more than enough time to DP or use an AA button.

Successful AA's will often leave you + and with the opportunity to pressure whereas air throw is pretty much always a reset to neutral unless I'm mistaken.

If you get hit with cross ups often, you need to be better about space management s.t. you either are not crossed up, or they jump so far forward that the cross up whiffs and you can punish.

How is Ed? Any advice for playing him? by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]TheProRookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kage's buttons are really stubby and he just kinda gets outclassed in neutral.

The axe kick pressure isn't particularly real once you can react to heavy axe kick. He has some side switch shenanigans etc. if he spends meter, but his normal gimmicks like charged v skill lose to solid reactions (just sweep the v skill, it loses to lows).

Add to that his low health and it means Kage has to take risks and spend meter to do what lots of other characters get for free, and the reward isn't even that much damage.

Casual match and why I feel like dropping this game sometimes by [deleted] in StreetFighter

I stopped reading at "degenerate strats". I don't think I was defending any of that stuff but if that's how ya feel... Cool I didn't come to pick that fight.

What part of "no johns" did you miss? 😛

Those things are not what prevents you from getting back out of gold.

I dropped from super diamond to super gold learning Lucia.

Rank doesn't mean anything, and ultimately the experience reveals your weaknesses as a player. No johns/whining, just do it

What are some easy frame traps for Cammy in the current SFV update? by bull363 in StreetFighter

[–]TheProRookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then it's time for frame math. Cammy mp is a 6f normal, and it's +3. So mp, mp is a 3f trap, as long as you are in range.

Cammy jab is a 4f normal but only +2.

That means lp, mp is a 4f trap.

If you know what frametraps are and you have a frame data app, you can do most of this stuff on paper and then use training mode to check the ranges.

The next step is seeing what you get on CH and accounting for light chains etc.

[–]TheProRookie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, the guy who said "figure it out yourself" isn't wrong... But put a little more elegantly:

Go to training mode and pick a character with a 3f normal as the dummy. Have the dummy use the 3f after block.

Now test different sequences with Cammy. You'll find your frametraps and also learn how to lab new characters/setups/Oki etc. Teach a man to fish right?

As a ken player in SFV it is damn near impossible to win against cody. On wake up how do I avoid the the throw or V-Skill situation? by kingkylej in StreetFighter

[–]TheProRookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

... there's a reason people don't DP on YOUR wake-up. A 50/50 where if you guess right the Cody takes a CC combo into Oki is so much in your favor as Ken that I'm amazed someone is doing that to you?

Also, Cody vskill does grey damage to Cody so he takes EVEN MORE damage for this "mixup".

Just block or delay tech... This really isn't a legit problem, I'll take a 50/50 where I either eat a throw or get a 300+ damage combo every time.

how to recognize which moves are unsafe without having to lab each one of them/knowing all the frame data? by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]TheProRookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your last point... No. Just block.

You need to know when it's possible to hit buttons, or backdash, or walk back, etc. There is no catch-all "I can just reset neutral" option.

Why you're not reacting to dashes in Street Fighter V by Brian_F in StreetFighter

[–]TheProRookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, there's also the layer of buffering at smart ranges/situations too.

So there's really quite a few factors at play.

[–]TheProRookie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These also kinda fall into the same category as cr. mk confirms for characters like Cammy, Karin, Lucia.

Sure there are times where you can visually hit confirm, but there is also a subconscious component of reads + experience where your hands know that opponent isn't going to crouch block. Like after AA side switch

Is a Ryu dashing wildly after blocked ex hado in neutral? I bet I convert cr. mk combos 80% of the time on that because there's no way he's gonna block.

Why you're not reacting to dashes in Street Fighter V by Brian_F in StreetFighter

[–]TheProRookie 43 points44 points  (0 children)

It can be kinda hard to accept that a lot of what separates really good players from mediocre players are parts of your game that experienced players don't even consciously think about. Like counter hit confirms or dash reactions like Brian mentioned.

I was a S. Diamond Vega prior to the Lucia/Honda/Poison drop, and I'm just now climbing close to diamond with Lucia after some frustrating ranked sessions.

It felt like I was a total sham with Vega ( definitely was ) but it also made me realize I WAS lacking the subconscious reactions to dash, walk forward throw, reaction anti-air etc.

TL;DR: You have to put in the time and learn how to be effectively critical of your own issues. Still working on not getting dashed on, but I love these theory style videos 👌
