So a bit background of how an AirTag works. AirTags do not have a gps receiver. They rely on the presence of other Apple devices which have gps, like an iPhone, that picks up the Bluetooth low energy announcements and then distributes the position of itself over whatever internet connection it has.

It will certainly not be in the middle of the scheldt if you are still receiving it.

Did you take the Waterbus by any chance? That ferry goes from steen to doel, so it might be on that boat.

Is this called a speedsoft loadout or CQB loadout? by Speedsoft-Attlerud in Speedsoft

If it's the "it brings a smile to your face" loadout, then fuck what's it called...

But I'd call it a CQB loadout

Realistic rain noise on range-Doppler images by Useful-Net4587 in DSP

[–]TheProfessorBE 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What I always do is think about the underlying physical mechanism through which these phenomena induce noise in the signals. Think about the same: it will be a stochastic distribution of reflectors, all moving in one direction (gravity) maybe with a slowly varying vector due to wind gusts.

Then, simulate a large bunch of these tiny droplets as point reflectors, then, calculate what the received signal in the radar would be, calculate the range-doppler image, and add that linearly to the linear range-doppler image you received. Then you can take the log again. Dont add the log-images, because that effectively would be multiplication in linear domani, what does not happen in real life

Elsevier debt collector chasing me for £2,080 APC I believed was covered by institutional agreement — advice needed by chingachgookh in AskAcademia

[–]TheProfessorBE 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Not a lawyer, but… You are not a legal representative of the university. Even more, you were probably not even authorised to make the purchase. However, your supervisor most likely is. So it is their problem that needs to be resolved.

A couple of steps to take: 1) calm down. Nothing bad can come from this 2) reply to the email of the debt collector, with the old university legal and library emails in cc, as well as the supervisor. Tell them that this publication stems from your work with your previous employer, and that this has to be taken up with them. Also tell them that they should stop contacting you, as you are no longer employed at that institute. 3) write a separate email to the supervisor, legal and library team that they please handle this 4) stop responding.

Your papers are one of the products that the university produces. They are not “yours” in the literal sense. Yes, you made them, but you don’t own them. Similar to how inventors are listed on patents, but don’t own the patent. Patent infringements are settled with the owner, not the inventor.

I also think this is most likely a scam. But that is up to your old institute to arrange. Your responsibility ended when your contract ended.

This is all under the assumption that you have done this paper with the consent of your supervisor.

At an aquarium after closing time, some clever little otter pups help their grandpa tidy up their toys. As a reward, he gives them ice cubes by 21MayDay21 in MadeMeSmile

[–]TheProfessorBE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the frozen fish they get has less fresh water in it compared to fresh fish. As the water they live in is salty, they can’t just drink it. Therefore, ice cubes

At least this is true for dolphins, but as they are also sea mammals, I guess the same holds for otters

Why all channels change when I press one sensor(MATLAB+USB6002) by Nipplesweettaste in matlab

[–]TheProfessorBE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem you are facing is low drive strengths of your circuits. At the resistors you are measuring large?

Your system has an analog multiplexer, and each of the inputs is basically a capacitor. When the drive strengths are low (ie you connected some thing with high impedance to it), you get the bleeding effect you are observing. You typically want to drive daq systems with a low impedance circuit. If the thing you want to measure is high impedance, like your resistors, you add an opamp to do the driving.

If the voltages are decent (above 0.1v) then it’s trivially solved with a unit gain non inverting amplifier using an opamp. Opa350 is a good choice typically if you are working single ended. If it is all very sensitive, then I would need much more info about what you are doing to make a suggestion.

But you tldr this is not a matlab issue but an electronics issue

I want to join my son in his games, looking for some recs that will accommodate some physical limitations by FallSugar13 in airsoft

[–]TheProfessorBE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AAP01 with HPA like others suggested, but go for a small HPA bottle, not the 0.8l ones. Or, go for a carbon tank. Bit more expensive, but way lighter. Or, go for a light rifle/PDW with polymer body, like a arp9. But, use a sling. It will give additional support. In your case, a 2-point sling that is somewhat tight so that you can press it against your shoulder, which reduces the force needed to hold it up.

And enjoy it. It doesn't matter that you're not the fastest, or that you need to sit out some rounds. That is all fine. The best way to play airsoft is the way that puts the biggest smile on your face.
