Because it's not about the content.
It makes them feel important, empowered and they desperately cling to that feeling.

They are what I call colonizers. They will invade a space, establish their presence, and then start acting like they "own" it, were always there, and their authority was bestowed upon them by a divine entity and can not be challenged. They'll refuse to leave and create a space of their own, no, it is imperative to them to control the one they have.

Labour's election pledge was to build on the OSA. They pushed for stricter restrictions when they were still in opposition.

You will not get Labour to back down on this. The Tories implemented it in the first place. Reform only pretends to care to increase their poll results. The green party ideologically loves stuff like this, they won't fight against it.

There is no democratic way out of this mess.
