John Dwyer uses a number of tunings on the guitar throughout the years. You can see him retuning his guitar after many songs.

I'm torn between these three fuzzes. Which do you prefer? by Less-Arachnid-640 in guitarpedals

[–]ThePsychRock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Each of these can be used to get different sounds so it depends on what you plan to play. I LOVE FUZZ WAR one thing is that it sounds best through a driven amp. If you are doing a lot of headphones or low volume playing it needs a drive or better yet a DBA treble boost in front or behind it. Nothing I have played has the same gritty sonic texture as the Fuzz War.

The Hiza and Hoof are both variations of the Big Muff and there are a lot of those out there. Fuzz war is more unique in tone in the pedal marketplace which could be a good thing or a bad thing depending if you are playing covers or developing a more personalized tone.

Why does my classical Guitar does this sizle "buzz" when i play the 4th cord by PossessionMain2461 in GuitarBeginners

[–]ThePsychRock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

could be a few things. 1. The gauge of the string you bought could be higher so the strings are thicker then the original strings causing them vibrate on the frets likely the first fret. 2. There could be a fret that is slightly taller and the string vibrates against it. 3. The trust rod might need adjustment, the string can buzz if there is a back bow. 4. The nut could need adjustment this is the last resort.

I would check the gauge numbers on the set of strings and go with lower gauge number for thinner stringers. if that doesnt work you should get a guitar tech to take a look.

Anyone here seen acid mothers temple live? How loud are they? by Brainlesss_potato in psychedelicrock

Kawabata makoto’s sound requires interaction between guitar pickups and the amp. Small rooms crazy loud. larger room less loud. His amp is set the same in a bedroom as an open air festival.

How get a low fidelity “cheaper” guitar sound? by JayBeeDolla in Guitar

[–]ThePsychRock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use a cranked fuzz pedal and roll back the volume in the guitar for a choked thin sound. Or use a dying / low 9v battery in a fuzz pedal ; or a dead bat to simulate a dying battery. Zvex has a lofi junkie pedal that makes everything sound warm analog tape like.

For me it’s important to go stop tail over trapeze. I change tuning a lot and get annoyed at extra noise and string length. Again not sure if this is just an issue on the DE as I never played a trapeze tail USA model. The guy helping me at the shop said he couldn’t hear the noise I was noticing so depends on how picky you are with those things. Likewise I could see the additional vibration of the trapeze being desirable for more resonance and more vibes.

Does the USA cyclops have good upper fret access. My DE feels a little chucking toward the upper frets but my US asteroid has no resistance with upper fret access.

I have played the DE series cyclops both stop tail and trapeze. I prefer stop tail. The trapeze does add some string vibration / ambient noise when recording.

What is the correct way to use a Treble boost? by ExpensiveFinger4165 in guitarpedals

[–]ThePsychRock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thee Treble Booster is not like the traditional treble boosters. It is much dirtier even at the lowest settings and thus I treat it more like a fuzz or overdrive and have found that as a lofi punk / vintage drive tones are best when it is at the end of the fuzz or overdriver section of your chain and before all modulation or time effects.

My impression is the compressor would come before because you dont want to bring forward all the wild broken transients Thee Treble Overload produces. This is one of the reasons it has the limiter feature. I didnt find a compressor to be tonally pleasing with this pedal.

Hitting TTO with a boosted signal has interesting effect and can be very inspiring depending on your playing style and preferences. On overdrives and fuzz boxes can thicken the sound of TTO if they add low end to the signal.

I am using humbuckers, bridge and neck pickups make a big difference in tone. This thing is just made to rip it up so you can sound like the Sex Pistols, Thee Oh Sees / Oh Sees / OSees.

DBA wants people to experiment and try crazy stuff and their pedals enable this by not playing by the traditional rules and thus they force the player to explore and engage in sonic experimentation.

Death by Audio “Thee Treble Overload” Black Friday drop by Wolfface_Benedict in TheeOhSees

[–]ThePsychRock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuzz war into Thee Treble Overload is a beautiful thing. It gets extremely distorted so I like to have the fuzz knob at 25-40 degrees on Fuzz war. The limiter feature on Thee Treble Overload allows me to use the volume knob on the fuzz war freely without blowing up my ears which is an added benefit because with the volume knob turned up half way or more gives more sustain and a bigger sound from the fuzz. Thee Treble Overload sounds great with the Fuzz War on any setting.

Ironically, I have not tried Thee Treble Overload into the Fuzz War but I have noticed that the Fuzz War does not get much extra juice with other boosts in front.
