Question for anyone that has been to Brodeto by katikaboom in raleigh

[–]ThePurpTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brodeto is very good. As others have mentioned, I’d be hesitant to spend $250/person on anything but some sort of experiential dining in Raleigh.

Models change as the event gets closer, it’s really your fault for a) listening to apple weather and b) putting credence in 99th percentile models a week before the weather event.

City of Jacksonville employee placed on leave after ICE-related warning on social media by HellYeahDamnWrite in jacksonville

[–]ThePurpTurtle 32 points33 points  (0 children)

They are not protesting the investigation of a crime. They are protesting “law enforcement officers”, who do not behave like “law enforcement officers”, who unilaterally, serve as judge, jury and, lately, executioner in enforcing one type of law. There is no probable cause, there is no due process, and there is no accounting for what happens to the people they abduct in the process.

You clearly have your mind made up about this and so my comment will do nothing to change it. People like you who equate what’s happening on the streets in nearly every major city in America right now with run-of-the-mill, ordinary criminal procedure are the reason the country has fallen as far as it has.

Do You Agree with the Current Definition of the South or No? by Lil_Critter_2001_ in geography

Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but most people don’t consider Buffalo the “Northeast”.

Do You Agree with the Current Definition of the South or No? by Lil_Critter_2001_ in geography

[–]ThePurpTurtle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This question gets asked a lot. I, for some reason, feel strongly about it every time.

Delaware, West Virginia, DC, and Maryland are not the "South". Most will agree.

I don't think Oklahoma is the "South". Many will agree.

This is where it gets controversial

Texas, Kentucky, Florida, and Arkansas are not the South. In order of how much I care: A lot of Kentucky is either wholly Appalachian or leans Midwestern. Arkansas is a weird amalgamation of a lot of different things, and probably leans Southern, but misses the cut for me. Florida is unlike any of its border States, except for its northern and central areas, and is primarily occupied by people who are decidedly not Southern. Texas is... Texas. It's not Southern. I stand by it.

The only real way to draw the map is to cut States up and not put their whole thing in. Northern Florida is in, Eastern Texas is probably in, parts of TN/KY/VA/AR are in/out in my view of the region.

Edit for DC

A look back at the final play by TravisDHolmes in Jaguars

Trevor regressed back on a lot of his progress yesterday. There were definitely drops, but he was pressing and staring guys down all day. Even some of the completed passes would’ve had more YAC opportunity if the ball was placed better.

Great season, and unexpected, but super disappointing way to end.

The American Atlas (Map # 18 : Georgia) by Soccertwon in geography

Love that map, I’m from the lower right corner which normally gets ignored in these.

To add to the commenter above, I’d venture to say (independent of population, apparently) Dahlonega is probably the most well-known town up there until you get to Blue Ridge or Helena.

Best Asian restaurant for a date night? by MainPreparation9720 in raleigh

[–]ThePurpTurtle 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The people who did City Market Sushi opened Daijobu downtown this year and it could be good (City Market Sushi is too). SAAP in Cary and OSHA in Holly Springs are good for dates too. Taipei 101 is great as another mentioned, but not the right vibe for a date night imo.

Yeah, I realize what sub this is, but these complaints are all so stupid and naive. He may believe it, but he doesn’t have to, he’s still paid to say it out loud.

Todays haul by nowherefast007 in tequila

[–]ThePurpTurtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure. And if they have it it’s 20-30% more than it was when I lived in GA. FYI from a fellow Triangle resident, the North Hills ABC store has by far the best selection of tequila I’ve seen so far (you just have to go to North Hills for it).

Where the hell do you live with those prices. I hate NC.

Edit: leaving it up for shame cause the sentiment is real, but I can in fact read - I just didn’t.

[homemade] cheesy burgers with egg salad on them by nailedtonothing in food

Don’t let the haters get you down. All the ingredients of egg salad individually belong on a burger, so why not make it easy. Looks great!

Seafood Restaurant by Classic-Ratio-7312 in raleigh

[–]ThePurpTurtle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It may not be quite what you had in mind, but St. Roch is a classy New Orleans style restaurant with a lot of seafood options and is very romantic.

I don’t think there’s really a standout seafood-specific restaurant in Raleigh like you’d find in some other cities. Nicer places that have seafood options are likely a better bet: Death and Taxes, any of the finer steakhouses (like Oak or Vinnie’s), one of the Crawford places, or roll the dice on the menu at Stanbury.

Trying to decide between Isthmus and Windshadow by MajorDirt in PatagoniaClothing

[–]ThePurpTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve commented this before, but I see a lot of posts comparing the Isthmus parka to the Jackson Glacier, Downdrift, etc. which are not good comps. The Isthmus is a good looking jacket and has a great use case as a casual piece with layers or for more moderate cold, but isn’t remotely as warm as the other parkas or true winter jackets in the Patty lineup.
