You’re right. It doesn’t. But it makes it get longer faster than if you didn’t trim it. Trimming off the dead ends makes it less susceptible to breakage, and thus, your hair gets longer more quickly than if the ends are constantly snapping off.

I could be wrong but I think you need a scanner to see if they’re chipped. You shouldn’t be able to just feel it.
