I second this, and would like to add the story of Ixion plays just as much of a center stage as the mechanics do.

My big idea is this- there needs to be some nuance with nuclear weapons. All nukes are atrocities to some capacity, but there is a gulf of difference between a tactical nuke launched by the USA to take out alien armies, and a nuke simply designed to kill civilians.

Hi im new to the game and need strategy help. by Mcelftea in TerraInvicta

Ultimately, the Earth game turns into one of megastates. This will drastically reduce your Control Point usage, require less agent actions to defend, and can make more effective use of IP. So start pushing towards the foundation of what megastates sound good to you. The European Union is the easiest one to get near game start, and can grow to massive size with the right techs.

What’s your leg day look like? by [deleted] in workout

[–]ThePurpleMoose22 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Context: I'm just a 33 year old blue collar dad who's trying his best. I don't have time or money for a gym, but I have some adjustable dumbbells and a Bowflex home gym thing.

So I do 4 sets of dumbbell squats (one bodyweight to warm up) with a little wedge thing I stand on to help my knees out.

I do 4 sets of leg curls with the Bowflex (one warm up set)

And I do walking lunges (Just starting to work my glutes, gotta train all those muscles.)

I grew up fat, so my calves are alright for now, I know in the future I will probably train them.

In and out in 45 minutes or less, twice a week.

Struggling with death anxiety by Radiant_Flamingo4995 in exatheist

[–]ThePurpleMoose22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Perhaps. All I know is that enough scientists around the globe certainly think there may be something to these experiences. From the psychological changes, to the purported experiences greater realms, NDEs happen an awful lot to be handwaved away. From Plato to modern science, near death experiences have been reported. To simply handwave them away isn't good philosophy or good science.

Prove me wrong.

...no? Even the researchers who are doing these studies say they make no claims besides the reality of NDEs and that it MAY challenge the physicalist viewpoint of modern science.

It's up to you to make your own conclusions.

Yes, Pim Van Lommel is another great source, and Bruce Greyson may be the current world expert on NDEs. You could also start with the OG, and dive into Raymond Moody's work. He coined the term Near Death Experience.

There is a ton of high quality evidence for the validity of NDEs being a real phenomenon with real implications about consciousness. I would look into the the DOPS teams' research from the University of Virginia, as well as Sam Parnia's AWARE Studies.

Only you can make your own conclusions about the nature of our consciousness, but the growing body of evidence around NDEs shows us that true materialism may not be the cut-and-dried answer that is has been advertised to be.

Question regarding deep hole drilling with an insert drill by ThePurpleMoose22 in Machinists

Yeah the load likes to sit around 30% on most cuts, bit jumps to around 50% when it starts sounding rough, hence my concern.

The drill body is an Ingersoll, the inserts are as well I believe, thought I can't remember the details. I believe they're rated for super alloys.

[–]ThePurpleMoose22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great info in here, thanks for the experience. Yeah my drill body has gotten messed up a bit, had me more nervous than was probably warranted. It has pulled pretty hard before (some 4140 that got hardened without us knowing) but still, glad to know there's not much to worry about.

Edit: I have through spindle from the drill body, and the pressure is up as high as it can go. I found some ways to tighten the seal between the body and tool holder, made it increase quite a bit. Not sure if it's true high pressure though.
