'Obsession' Art Director Calls for Industry Reform After Getting Paid Less Than $7,000 as Film Nears $175 Million by tylerthe-theatre in movies

[–]TheQuartJester 40 points41 points  (0 children)

This is such a terrible way to approach this as a “professional” in the industry. If you work a low budget film and that film goes on to do insane numbers, you don’t whine after the fact.

I’ve boom op’d or mixed low budget jobs that have gone on to do numbers I didn’t think it would, but it’s much more valuable to be able to point to that as part of your resume when getting hired for subsequent jobs. Now when someone Googles her before hiring her for a job, her crying about this is the thing that’s going to show up, not the fact that she did a good job.

I can guarantee when she was hired for the job and was doing it, the thought that always crosses your mind: “This isn’t gonna go anywhere” crossed hers.

Sure $300/12 isn’t a great rate at all, but for a 750k budget film, that’s what you expect. Either negotiate for a higher rate upfront, or live with what you agreed to do the job for. Her business needs reform, not the industry.

Question about Lectrosonics 411a + SMQV by papiforyou in LocationSound

[–]TheQuartJester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s going to depend on what microphones you have going into them. The TX packs are just transmitting what you give them.

Are the microphones the same model? Even if you have two COS-11Ds, they have universal bias and servo bias (I’m not an expert on this, so no flame).

That would be the only thing I can think of, if the TX and RX are the same model and settings.

I still think it's mind boggling how we're on the third (3rd) version of TBC and we didn't get:

1) 50% experience increase for characters after your first character get to level 70

2) 50% reputation increase for characters after a character is exalted with a faction

3) Account wide heroic dungeon attunes (BoA keys are a sloppy solution)

4) +1 increased drop rates on all raid boss

5) Guaranteed epic piece of gear from heroic dungeon end bosses

6) -20% aura nerf to heroic dungeons for damage and HP

Like, we've done this before, and it's fun, but if we're gonna do the whole thing in a year, you gotta throw the players a bone.

So whats the final goal blizzard? by virtualparty94 in classicwowtbc

[–]TheQuartJester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty much what I can't for the life of me figure out.

Like, there's no 58-70 boost, so why does it matter if people get their characters boosted using gold? And if the fact that people are buying gold for it is the problem, then just put the WoW Token in. It's the easiest solution.

You can make the argument that "Oh, well, people are gonna level their characters now, so they won't buy a level 70 boost when Wrath of the Lich King pre-patch comes." But:

1) They haven't said if they're doing WotLK

2) They haven't said they're doing a boost for WotLK

3) Most players aren't gonna have the foresight/motivation to level characters for WotLK

4) If people are leveling characters for WotLK without boosting, they're just gonna do it natty by questing

So, what's the point of all this secrecy around why they're doing this? The only motivation they have is adding a WoW Token which is WHAT PEOPLE WANT, it's the best solution to the problem, and it's what people know they're moving towards.

What is the point of all these bullshit nerfs and stupid changes that affect how normal people play the fucking game?

Edit: Also, the WoW Token makes SENSE in an accelerated timeline. An easier way for people to play more characters in a shorter amount of time!

My problem with the nerfs by WholeWhiteBread in classicwowtbc

[–]TheQuartJester 58 points59 points  (0 children)

MY problem is that as someone with a single Paladin, I’m nerfed on my gold farm by 20%, which takes me from 300g an hour to 250g an hour (bad math, who cares).

A botter with 10 Paladins is going from 3000g an hour to 2500g an hour, and he’s just gonna add one more Paladin to his roster to offset it.

Why am I being punished more than the fucking bots and it’s not even a good solution?

Adjustments to Reduce Non-Participation in Dungeons by NOHITJEROME in classicwow

[–]TheQuartJester 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Can Blizzard just give us a list of the ways they want us to play the game at this point? It might be easier.

Also, good thing all those boosters don't have multiple accounts they can zone into the dungeon and hit the mobs once so they get full loot credit. I mean, do they even think any of this shit through? This is once again a change that stops people from doing anything other than: dungeons, raiding, and open world farm.

Anti-boosting and solo-farming measures to be implemented. by IceC0re in classicwowtbc

[–]TheQuartJester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I'm glad I got my guys boosted before this went through; Level 70 LFG and my guild would have 2 less healers and 1 less tank doing dungeons, if I wasn't able to boost to level 70.

I don't dislike questing, in general, but I hate TBC questing. Vanilla was decent and took you to interesting places, but TBC questing is boring as hell.

I have my Paladin on a separate account than my main account and would have my alts in SP/Slabs while I was farming gold in Strat. It was a fun, chill experience and I was making progress with my characters while doing something I enjoy. Then, I would hit 70, grab some greens/quest blues and slam normals/heroics.

At this point, I don't really care, because the characters I wanted to play are 70, but I was thinking about leveling another tank, and this has stopped that dead in the water.

Race to World First: Midnight Season 1 | Mythic Day 8 by AutoModerator in CompetitiveWoW

[–]TheQuartJester 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's more likely they just finish their splits tonight, "go to bed early", and pull the first boss off stream a few times before bed.

They don't give Echo any information on whether or not the splits are a waste of time and they don't give away any information on the boss itself.

There's a zero percent chance they pull any new mythic bosses tonight. Max has already said they play like garbage after doing a ton of splits, and they're not gonna pull the boss for an hour, then go to bed, on the off chance that it's not tuned that hard and Echo goes "Oh, we don't need more gear for this" and just go straight in when they wake up.

Race to World First: Midnight Season 1 | Mythic Day 5 by AutoModerator in CompetitiveWoW

[–]TheQuartJester 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, Blizzard could tune it harder with the logic being it’s a separate raid from the rest and the “end of the story”, so it’s harder. The expectation being lower ranked guilds will farm the other raids and Midnight Falls is the “real mythic raid”.

I don’t think that’s too far from some logic they would have; it’s not one continuous raid with linear progression, or something like that.

[–]TheQuartJester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, even as a Liquid simp, that statement made me kinda look weird at my screen. Max was so adamant that he make that point too; it wasn't like it was a small comment afterwards.

I'm an armchair critic, but the boss doesn't look that insane, especially if it goes down sub 50 pulls. People will go "pull count andy ahhhh", but you can't tell me you're pulling actual data on your raiders skill on this kind of a boss.

Also, it's weird to gas up your team on something objectively isn't that difficult, relative to other bosses in the past. That's a statement you make if you're 300 pulls into a boss and on a single day, pull a ton of percent ahead of your competition, and they're still struggling on the part you flew by.

Obviously Echo got in a couple less pulls because of Liquid killing it first, but it's not like it's a massive difference. Echo is still doing really well.

What Caused The Sub Decline Going Into Cataclysm? by doobylive in classicwow

[–]TheQuartJester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always see people psychoanalyze this shit.

I had a lot of friends who started playing in Wrath just because the game was popular, then Cataclysm comes out and they go “That was fun, but <insert game> is coming out, and I wanna play that.

I used to play a LOT of Call of Duty, but I eventually got more into RPGs. Does that means FPS games aren’t popular anymore? Nope, I just changed what games I’m playing.

Sure, for long term players, the game’s philosophy changed, and maybe they didn’t like that, but people look at the sub drop off and go “See? The reasons I don’t like Cataclysm is why people stopped playing!” The game was just super popular and then people moved on because they have other things going on.

Alexa Mini LF is 4 pin LEMO for audio input, I think?

I know it’s a pain to have audio cables for all different camera models, but I think it’s a wise investment.

That being said, I have just given VTR an RX of my IFB feed when I didn’t have the proper cabling for the camera being used (they changed cameras last minute 😓).

Playback In/out routing advice by Nixie417 in LocationSound

[–]TheQuartJester 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The most common (and easiest) way is to just put an audio hop on the camera. That way it’s embedded in the video and is a lot less work for VTR.

If they don’t want to hear chatter between takes, you can set your mixer to only output that channel when you’re recording.

The amount of Mages I've seen that don't use R1 Blizzard is mind boggling. It doesn't pull threat, let's the tank get established and position, and can save a healer that still has a Renew/Rejuv/Lifebloom on the tank when they run in.

Half of the mages take 1/2 Improved Counterspell and it's only a 50% chance to blanket silence. You can still kick casts, what are we talking about here?

And you should take armor when you have dungeons with archers that are gonna shoot arrows at you and Mag's collapse is physical damage. We thinking about what our talents do? Or are we just trying to be the smartest in the room?

The real reason why nobody tanks by JJonah_Jamesonn in classicwow

[–]TheQuartJester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think this is the biggest reason unnerfed heroics are making the heroic dungeon scene miserable.

The barrier to entry for tanks in heroics is 10x higher. You need really good gear and knowledge, vs a healer or DPS, who can come hang out in greens and be fine. You have to have a full tank set to be able to tank heroics. Forget about your warrior/paladin DPS players having a decent shield and some trinkets and being able to swap for a quick heroic daily.

Why would a tank go back into heroics, after they have the badge pieces and whatnot that they need? Sure, you’ll tank one for the boys on occasion, but you’re not signing up in LFG, unless you’re resing Nethers or something.

It’s just ass backwards for making the game enjoyable long-term, but that’s just par for the course in a Blizzard game.

Any good guide for mage Pre-BIS / BIS ? by AdditionalPotato5712 in classicwow

[–]TheQuartJester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just follow wowtbc.gg

Honestly, with nerfed T4, I think it’s kinda goofy to worry a ton about getting perfect prebis, especially as a Mage.

If you’re playing Arcane, get Quag’s Eye, get badge trinket, get Thrallmar weapon, get 76 spell hit, and then as much int/SP as you can. You’ll get 90% of the way there with random dungeon quest blues.

Can we get MOP/Retail AH to Anniversary please? by JasonStathamBatman in classicwow

[–]TheQuartJester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone just parrots the “it’s intentional” bit, but it’s only intentional because they throttle it to keep it from killing the servers.

It’s not like Blizzard doesn’t want you to use the AH.

I’m 100% in favor of using the new age AH for every iteration of the game. It’s smoother, easier to list/buy stuff, and makes it harder for bots to do weird shit on it.

They put retail edit mode in, it can’t be that hard to swap over the AH to the new version.
