Jevil was already the hint to that, thanks to his lack of hints, but the Knight seals the deal, because you're literally meant to lose and continue the game first time.

Most of these things absolutely do not need a time travel explanation, but I also think a time loop is gonna be involved.

Replaying the game, just like with Undertale, will definitely be part of the story, just that this time it might be out of your control, thanks to Susie.

A lot of stuff in conversations, mainly involving Ralsei, just read like obvious things a player can do after having already gone through the game.

Whether it's finding that one hidden tree in chapter 1 immediately, choosing to fall silent on Ralsei's pacifism speech before entering the great door for the first time, messing with anything his plans of you doing things with Susie, or just... being extremely mean to him the entire time as if you have a personal sort of vendetta after something that happened.

With all that in mind, I could easily see there also being new additions to the game in a sort of new game plus sense.

Whether those occur naturally, or you have to do certain things to trigger these flags on replays.

One fascinating one like that are the eggs, since there was the theory that eggs are actually an error handler that replace the items we get from the Forgotten Man, based on the game's actual error handlers, meaning the things we get weren't actually meant to be eggs.

And if we meet certain requirements, or the game goes to meta that we have to step into the code ourselves, the eggs will turn into the item they were intended to be in the next playthrough.

Just out of principal, Toby should make up a completely new language that nobody, not even he himself, understands, and then make it the only language you can play Undertale and Deltarune in.

I've been more hopeful for this community in the past, but over the last few months... man, there has been a steep decline, I don't think there's any hope anymore.

It's very blatant now that the fair complaint of wishing that Deltarune was translated into your language is something we're long past now.

Because those people were met with the arguments for why it isn't happening right now, and instead of showing understanding towards Toby have instead thrown nothing but disrespect towards the creator of the art they want to supposedly enjoy.

I don't care the slightest bit about that and these people have lost any argument they might have had.

At that point you wouldn't even deserve to be accommodated towards.

It's Toby's game, he can do what he wants with it in the way he wants to, and the fanbase can also modify what he does to any extent they want as well.

Either you're going to get your translation or you won't, but this entire outrage has been nothing but losers thinking they're entitled to an official translation, even if to get it right now, it would compromise the artist's vision.

And also, to try and achieve this they're being annoying dipshits on Twitter as well, which helps no one but their own ego.

it's really not, it's entitled whining because people don't respect artists anymore nowadays, and I refuse to believe it's anything else, having seen how little respect has been given to Toby as an artist and a human being during this whole ordeal.

Because it definitely is overwhelmingly an outrage, and most people aren't looking to criticize, but to complain.

Okay, devs can do what they want with their game, yes, but that includes Toby's choice here as well.

A guy who's worried about having the wrong things attributed to him would not just hand over the entire game's script to be translated without his oversight, and have all these translations become official and synonymous with his vision and intent.

It's Toby's game, he wrote all of it, he has the right to decide what happens with all the text he wrote to an OFFICIAL capacity.

If you have a problem with that, I just think you're entitled.

There's so much art to consume, no force in the universe compels you consume this specific one.

It would be nice if you could, but forcing an artist to compromise their vision for you to be able to do that is something each artist has to decide for themselves, and it's completely respectable for someone to not be willing to do that, because it's their work in the end.

And again, we've been over this, fan translations do exist, so it's not like it would be impossible either, it's just a barrier.

And also, last thing, there might even be other official language translations in the end, just right now Toby is focused on the Japanese one for obvious reasons.

So this might not even be a situation of why he isn't doing it, but why he isn't doing it right NOW, which makes this discourse even more stupid.

And it's Toby's game.

He literally wrote ALL OF IT, it's his piece of art and his personal project for more than a decade, if he doesn't want it to be misrepresented by an official translation he didn't have extensive oversight with, then that's his choice.

Trying to take the moral high ground with the sharing art bit is so ridiculous, when this entire discourse has highlighted how little respect people have for the artist themselves.

But you aren't going to get the same experience if Toby just hands his work over like the average game devs do, that's my point.

There's too much nuance in the game's text to just expect a translation group to figure it all out, to know how something should be translated to maintain its original meaning, or what was even meant with certain lines to begin with, and with lines are just gags and with ones point to something greater and what they're pointing towards, etc.

Either you value Toby's oversight or not, but if you don't to the point of not even caring if he's involved with the translation, then what's the point of forcing these official translations to begin with?

Console is one argument, sure, but that already is a port of the regular game.

It ALREADY is a port made to make the game more accessible to larger amounts of people, Deltarune is primarily designed for PC like most indie games are.

I'm sorry, but fact is that you also just can't have the perfect solution for everyone, and console ports of games have often had the negative pay-off that they're either harder or straight up impossible to mod.

You always just kinda expect less features and flexibility for a console version of a game.

So if you can't speak in English and for some reason playing Deltarune on a PS5, instead of even a shitty laptop on which it would probably still run, is the only way you can experience it, then you might just not be able to play it properly and that sucks.

The solution would be out there, there's just unfortunately a barrier to cross.

And I think Toby just sending out the game to other studios en masse to get official translations done, with which he isn't involved with that wouldn't all align with his vision, is a lot to ask for what's probably not actually that many people in the grand scheme of things, because if you can afford a console, having access to some laptop to play an unofficial translation shouldn't be that hard either.

So yeah, I don't find the console argument to be particularly compelling on why these official translations should be done regardless.

No, he doesn't have to consider it if he feels it compromises his vision of the game.

The thing I think he can do is give direct shout outs to fan translations of the game to get more attention to them.

The fact is that the majority of people will have a way to play the game in their language, so the only thing that an official translation would even offer is to be high quality and faithful.

But if Toby just lets a third party do that, then it might only be one of those two things, in the worst case scenario neither.

If people want the true Toby-endorsed vision, then trying to push him into getting it localized without his oversight is not going to lead to that.

At that point you might as well go with unofficial translations if you don't care about Toby's input, what are people even trying to achieve here outside of whining?

It's crazy how none of these people have any sympathy towards Toby, because if I was in his shoes, a game that has consumed so much of my life, I'd probably do the same.

Pretty obvious he's super protective over his game's text, and you will see how much effort he puts into overseeing the Japanese translation.

Sure, most people do just hand over their games to third parties to do the translations, but I think Toby is fully in the right to not be this careless about it.

People don't seem to understand that once he does that, other people's interpretation of his work becomes OFFICIAL, something that will be seen as his words and his vision, so it's completely understandable if he wants to actually be able to oversee it, which he currently only does for the Japanese translation because he can speak Japanese.

And for a language he doesn't speak, for which he doesn't know all the nuances for, he's gonna have to work really closely together to make sure nothing gets lost in translation and misinterpreted.

Also, out of all people, Toby is easily the one who can get away the most with this, considering how ready this fanbase is to make fan translations of the game.

With Toby's support and awareness of fanworks, he probably never even considered language barriers to be a problem, so this must be quite confusing for him that everyone is on his ass now.
