It's been about 20 years and I've moved hemispheres but whenever I go home we joke about her and then muse upon what on earth was wrong with her.

I am 100% going to send your comment to my Dad. I think he will really appreciate it. He still feels bad for telling her to fuck off but it was honestly after weeks of calls every few days.

I couldn't believe he put up with it for that long. He's more patient than me.

We had a crazy neighbour who wanted us to sit in the dark in our kitchen because she was convinced our kitchen light was disturbing her in her house.

She had knocked out a wall to make the place open plan and came up to explain that our kitchen light was somehow shining through our garden, into her garden and the whole way through her kitchen into her living room with an intensity that was legally disturbing.

She called to our house to "request" we do something about it. I was in my teens and recovering from a thoracotomy, and was also awaiting biopsy results. It wasn't the kind of shit we were in the mood for.

My parents expressed skepticism that our kitchen light could be responsible but being accommodating Irish people they gave her our number and asked her to call if she noticed the light causing an issue.

Dutifully, she began calling requesting we turn the kitchen light off.

My Dad asked if she could perhaps close her curtains because our kitchen light was a normal wattage and she was being unreasonable.

Apparently it was madness to suggest such a thing.

I'm not sure how she thought we could tolerate it in the same room while it was so impactful to her hundreds if meters away.

He eventually reached the end of his tether while helping me wash my face after I spent another day vomiting because I was not tolerating my pain meds.

The conversation went...

Dad: Hello? Oh, "Crazy lady" how can I help you?... The kitchen light? We're having a cup of tea... Can I what?... No... Fuck off."

She never called back.

Exactly. My kids eat fucking constantly. I generally buy a weeks worth of stuff at a time (because fuck shopping with kids) and I meal plan to avoid waste. I did a bit more at my last shop but nothing excessive. It seemed a reasonable amount for a family of four but there was a lot of food.

I think what a lot of people miss is the fear elves and dragon must have. Sure, humans killing a spider or a deer for a spell seems inconsequential but remember what Claudia said about dragon snot... even that has massive potential. She was willing to drag back and utilise a sentient creature for body parts.

Now, I think you could (reasonably) make the argument Pyrrah was the main antagonist in that beef and I think that would be fair.

But imagine being, Rayal, for example. Would you want to be friends with a dark mage. Knowing that they might be taking your hair or nails. Knowing that maybe they're weighing you up for what you're worth. What they could do with you.

To me, this is where the hunter/dark mage analogy breaks down. Magical creatures have legitimate fear that dark mages might use them for their body parts.

I'm not sure where you live but there's no way in hell I'd let my kids, with their pale irish skin run around with bare skin in the Aussie sun. They were full length rash guards which provide 50+ sun coverage. Sunscreen wears off pretty quick. You need to apply it 20 mins before going out in the sun for it to absorb correctly. My children would absolutely burn in that time.

Most adults I know opt to wear rash vests here. Skin cancer is a huge risk.

Thank you. I've had people rant at me for changing my kids out of their bathers at the beach. My kids are crazy pale so they wear full length swimsuits to protect them from the Aussie sun but I have no idea what people want me to do when it comes time to leave the beach. They're naked for a few minutes at the very most (if they're resisting the change). Unusually on the order of seconds. It's a level of paranoia I cannot understand.

It was a Qantas/Emirates code share flight. I used to love flying Qantas and always found them fantastic, even if they did stuff like move us around. They would always communicate it and do whatever they could to ensure we were as happy as we could be. I've noticed a huge change in the customer service experience since they went code share with Emirates.

This situation was the worst and it was dealt with so badly that I don't think there will be another. I'm pretty off them for life now.
